It sounds like Alford is not likely to get an interview. With this in mind, who will be the man? The top candidates are listed, but outside the box thinking is welcome.

I think I like Turgeon. His background is strong, he's recruited the midwest, and all his teams seem to improve yearly. I also like Mike Montgomery as a darkhorse.

Other--Rick Pitino. He's probably been at Louisville long enough that it's time for him to move on to the next challenge, and He's exactly what the Hoosiers need to get back to the top. [/wishful thinking]

It won't be Few, Calipari, or Majerus. Glad it's not gonna be Alford.

I agree about Few, but not so sure about Calipari and Majerus. I'd bet on Calipari before Majerus, though.

The twisted thoughts of someone who attended both UK and IU. :)

I can't see Crean. After Self left he told Illinois he wanted to be at Marquette for the long haul. Especially now that they are in the premier basketball conference. Does he have any ties to IU?

Not really. Central Michigan Grad, assistant at MSU under Heathcoate, assistant at Pitt and Western Kentucky, assistant at MSU under Izzo, Marquette head coach.

Being a Marquette student, I'd have to say that I believe only an insane contract offer would lure Crean from MU. He's celebrity up here. What does scare me is that if Crean does leave for MU, I'm afraid that Richmond, IN native and Big East freshman of the year Dominic James would follow. And that would suck...

It'll be a former player, most likely Uwe Blab.

I was thinking a 3-headed coaching monster of Calbert Cheaney, Alan Henderson and Jim Jackson.

Why is Alford not getting an interview?

I didn't actually attend IU (it was Ball State), but I grew up an IU fan, mainly because my father wasn't a sports fan at all while my mother and other relatives on her side went to IU. My interest in Pitino is based on the magic he worked at Kentucky during and after probation, which was during and right after the time I was at UK.

One rumor I've read is that it was actually Alford that refused to interview with IU. Supposedly he tole them that if they wanted him as coach they needed to make him an offer without an interview.

The Jim Jackson that went to Ohio State?

He would mostly do scouting.....of, um, Ohio state......

I hope it is not Calapari as I will be working at the U of Memphis and need a good sports program to attract good students, unfortunately.

I do think it will be someone with ties to IU, though.

The Mark Few Bandwagon gained a little steam today. I'm still not sure he's the guy for the job. Winning at Gonzaga is a little different from winning in the Big Ten- just ask Dan Monson. I also seriously doubt he'd leave the Northwest.

It should be an interesting couple of weeks with new fuel on the fire almost daily.[/url]

I read that wrong the first time. I thouhgt you were saying Calapari was recruiting good students.

I won't want him anywhere near the IU program.

Someone with ties to IU.....

maybe someone who has coached them to titles in the past?

Jerry Yeagley?

Triple his $600k/year? That is flat out [expletive].

And I wondered why colleges were so darned expensive. If that salary's the norm, whining about skyrocketing health insurance is a crock.

Few's done a good job, but IMO I think it may be time for him to move on. He came up through GU's coaching ranks, and has gone as far as he can with that program. I wonder if Adam Morrison's decision to stay for his senior year depends on whether Few stays with Gonzaga?

On a different note, I never have liked that blowhard Rick Majerus (sp?). I always wonder whether he's going to have a heart attack during a game. Another guy I don't like is Billy Donavan.

In breaking news, Jim Jackson has been outed as an O$U alum and has been replaced by AJ Guyton
