Don't worry Vance, there's always Jenks on the South Side. He has supposedly put on more weight this off-season, he was pushing 270 last year.

Yeah but he has kids, so he's mature now or something. He only lights his non-pitching arm on fire for fun now.

That's a way to lose the weight, you know.

I'd like to see Jenks light Guillen on fire myself.

Ozzy doesn't need anyone to fire him up.

Just wait Ozzy will wear out his welcome on the South Side soon enough.

His team won the first World Series in this town in 88 years. I think he's going to be loved by at least half of the city for a long time.

I'm not saying that he's not crazy, but he managed a World Series team in Chicago. He's the only person on the planet that is alive to say that.

Maybe he's talking about wearing out his welcome with the players, and possibly even management. The first sign of struggles by that team will be very interesting to see how these personalities mesh. They've all become more and more outspoken after winning. The fans will love Ozzie forever, but the characters could all learn to hate each other.

Nothing lasts forever. I look at Ditka and the Bears as an example. Ditka is a coaching god in this town, but there are still people that can't stand him.

Yeah, screw diet and exercise. Go with the Dr. Jenks diet. Hard liquor and a lighter.

The first time they go on an extended losing streak and Ozzy starts calling out the players to the media, we'll see how much love there is.

Or if Reinsdorf decides to stand pat and not upgrade at the trade deadline we'll see what Ozzy has to say about that.

He is due for a Hal McCray or Lee Elia meltdown sometime this year.

I think he already had a few last year, but nobody had a clue what he was saying so they just chalked it up lovable little Ozzie.

He'll forever be adored by Sox fans, who aren't close to making up half of Chicago's population, even immediately after a Championship.

I know what you're getting at. The Cubs are the popular team of the city. Ozzie will reach iconic status if the Sox continue to win, and they seem poised to do just that. There are a lot of non baseball fans out there that will love Ozzie because he's latin. I drive 50 blocks down Western everyday, and I see a lot of people wearing Sox stuff, especially around Division.

So the Sox need to continue to win for Ozzie to reach iconic status, even after they've won the first World Series in this town in 88 years? That statement alone sums up my point.

No. He's already the greatest living manager in Chicago.

To reach iconic status the Sox will need to put a couple more years of playoff baseball together. I think they will.

And even if he defies the odds and makes that happen, more than half of Chicago won't love Ozzie -- anecdotal evidence and Cards fans dating White Sox fans aside. :)

You're probably right. It's a unique situation because of the 2 teams in 1 city thing. I still think that once you take out the hard core Cub fan, most people in the city like him. My Mom is a good example. She loves her Cubbies but still likes Ozzie because he brought a champion to the city. My Dad is a hard core Cub fan (you'd like him) and he can't stand Ozzie.

How the heck did you become a Cards fan?

According to a writer in the Washington Post, Ponson looks heavier than ever.

Link.

Ponson appeared heavier than he was last season, and he now sports long hair, instead of the buzz cut he wore with the Orioles. After shaking hands with several teammates, Ponson spoke with Orioles bullpen coach Rick Dempsey for several minutes.
