I'd be shocked if Man U release Rooney for WC duty. He's not going to be anywhere near game ready, so why risk the long term health of a 20 year old who will likely have 2 more chances to play for England in the WC for a run this year that he's not likely to have much of an impact on?

Snap.

The wheels are already in motion for Manchester U's refusal as well. They've been getting antsy about the doctors, and all sorts. As a news story, its already ludicrously overblown, certainly on this side of the pond.

You mean because the photo of him running stairs is on the cover of all of your morning papers?

Yeah, I watch SKY sports news

Yep. Things don't look too good for England this year. I mean, even if they do manage to do alright, they'll lose on penalties.

I'm still upset about your Mariners' defeat at the weekend, BalsaWood. You'd have been playing the (even Mightier) Huddersfield Town next season if that had gone to plan. I've got much family in Grimsby, too, so I was pulling for it. Alas.

To keep me World Cup themed, England currently beating Hungary - I believe 2-1 - in a game that looked a lot more frantic when I passed it than it had any reason to.

You're telling me. That was just...disappointing. At least I got to see a real playoff football game though. We outnumbered the Cheltenham fans 2-1. Our star striker left early due to a header though, and we just never put together any organised offence. Sucks we have to spend another year in League Two. And now our manager has left as well. *sigh*

Did you see the Robot dance? What a knob...

Italy just tied the Ukraine 0-0, but, more importantly, it appears that Lippi is going to start Totti on the bench in favor of Del Piero. let's just hope he's that stupid for 2 games and not just the first one.

I posted this in honor of the Holland-Argentina group stage matchup. It's the second goal and it's from the 1998 World Cup.

England beat Jamaica 6-0 today and it appears that Peter Crouch will start next Saturday for the Brits.

They're pretty much forced to start him after he scored that hat trick....Which according to my English friend is not a good thing for them since they reckon he's not actually that good of a player.

He is a fit an in-form striker, though, and England are very short on those.

They have one.

ESPN ran a piece during SportsCenter on European racism and the World Cup. They could've covered more instances, but it was pretty well done, in my opinion.

Still, can't wait for June 12.

Hahaha that's so awesome

We need to have commentators that crap their pants like that. So awesome. I will always remember listening to a Roma-Lazio game where Vincenzo Montella scored 4 times and the Roma commentator spent a minute and a half screaming "Ti amo, Vincenzo!" at the top of his lungs instead of describing what had happened.

1 week to go before the US kicks off against the Czechs, and I'm still working on an airtight "World Cup Blackout" scheme to prevent me from learning the score before I get home from work to watch on TiVo.

Any suggestions?

I'm glad the matches are at least at more watchable times this year. They were at like 4am or something crazy last time right?

I have yet to find a good tv schedule for world cup games to be broadcast in the states. Is this going to be on ESPN, with most games shown live during the day?

All 64 games are live on either ESPN, ESPN2 or ABC. The full TV schedule is on ESPN.com

I didn't mind that they were on at 3am. It meant I was guaranteed to see the games. :D

Break your work computer.

I'm going to skip out on work and spend a lot of time eating lunch at Chili's almost every day, I think.

Also, a labmate of mine claims he has found Korean internet broadcasts. We'll see how that works.

I think I will end up listening to internet radio broadcasts and then rewatching at home. BBC should have it here:
