I'm currently very intrigued by Brazil's attack. The same strikeforce I said made me want to wet myself several pages back in this thread.

Adriano has scored 4 goals since January, is unhappy, and wants to leave his club.

Ronaldo is out of shape, unhappy, and wants to leave his club.

Robinho has scored 7 goals this season, and has been generally unimpressive in my opinion. Then again, Real Madrid has been generally unimpressive, in my opinion.

Kaka had looked poor since the midseason break, but scored a hat trick against Chievo a week and a half ago. We'll see if he's turned it around.

Roberto Carlos has looked like hell, and got red carded for verbally abusing a referee a couple of weeks ago.

Cafu has been injured and only recently returned.

Ronaldinho is still the best player in the world. So there's one guy that's still doing well.

Then again, this is Brazil. They can pull players like Serginho, a world class player who can control a game against the best in the world when he's on form, out of their second stringers.

Also, how do we get shelled by germany and move up? FIFA rankings make no sense

Holy crap, ranked 4th now. Hopefully they have a very strong showing at the Cup.

They could play very well and make it to the semi's. They could also play very well, and not make it out of their group with a win.

So when do these 2-0 we don't know how much longer the games are going to end because of some things that went on during the game thingy going to start?

you're drunk, aren't you?

Is he talking about injury time?

As an aside, I wish they'd bring back the Golden Goal...

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but the new US World Cup commercial is awesome. Gives me goosebumps everytime. Man, am I pumped for this, and I'm not even really a soccer fan.

Goosebumps? When I saw it, it just made me bitter and want to beat the crap out of these other countries.

One guy I knew and played soccer with (same competative team) growing up has played a couple games for the Men's National Team. His name is Heath Pearce. I doubt he'll make the World Cup roster, but it's weird seeing somebody that you played with as a kid on TV playing for the country.

that commercial's decent.

if you want to see some awesome commercials, check out the Eric Cantona Nike "Joga bonito" commercials. i especially enjoy the one with Thierry henry. How does he even make the ball travel in that direction?

That Henry one was ridiculous.

How about the Ronaldinho warm-up one? That sequence where he bangs it off the crossbar back to him three times in a row has to be fake.

it is. I've read a lengthy thread on another message board where they pick it apart frame-by-frame. But the incredible thing is that Ronaldinho is so amazing that you have that little seed in your mind where you think for a second it might be true.

Bump for a really optimistic prediction. During a "Predict The Roster" column, Eric Wynalda posits the following prediction:

First stage prediction: The U.S. beats the Czechs 1-0 (on a set piece), ties Italy 1-1 and destroys Ghana 3-0 to earn a birth into the next round. Several players will sign fat contracts in Europe when its all over.

This is in the same column that he advocates picking Kerry Zavagnin as one of the mids.

FYI the 23 man roster is to be announced tomorrow at 5pm Central on ESPN.

Why would he honestly say this? Doesn't he want to further the MLS and have it become a more world renowned league? I don't want all of our good players leaving to play in Europe. I want them to stay in the US and play. I know people have differing opinions on this matter but you would think that a former US National Team player and former MLS player wouldn't want all of the good American players to leave the US.

I think it's a double edged sword for US players. On the one hand, the domestic league needs to grow and continue to improve for the health of the sport long term in America. On the other hand, playing in Europe helps improve the national team pool right now. I think MLS has done a fairly decent job of letting guys go at the right time, usually when there is someone to step up and take their place. I'd rather see them all stay in MLS, but I understand the desire and importance of playing in the top flight leagues.

As far as Wynalda goes...well, he's not the sharpest knife in the drawer. He's pegged Taylor Twellman over and over to break his goals scored record for the nats, but doesn't realize that Donovan and McBride are about to break his record sometime in the next few months. Twellman has like 5 career goals with the national team. He's not going to touch McBride or Donovan when it's all said and done.

I don't know much about futbol, but what is wrong with him saying that? Isn't he just making predictions? I don't see it as him advocating they abandon MLS or USA Soccer, or him dissing the America game. He's just making a prediction about what people will do.
