From what I've heard, the Giants expect to get 120 games out of Bonds. With only that many games, I don't see any way he approaches Aaron's record. On the other hand, I figure he'll pass Ruth fairly easily and retire as the #2 HR hitter of all-time.

I've never been a big fan of Bonds, but he is the most amazing hitter I've ever seen.

I have not read this whole thread but the thing you have to remember about Bonds is even if he was on the juice he was still a good player. I still think he would have hit say 500 homers if he was clean. Which probably would put him in the HOF any way.

One of the things that most people don't or won't understand is his bat speed. He has always had incredible bat speed. I've never see a guy wait as long as he does and still hit the ball with authority.

People can say whatever the want about him, but he is the best pure hitter I've ever seen.

Something that you don't understand is that his exceptional bat speed was helped by steroids. I'm not saying that's the sole reason, but it definately helps. That's the one thing I never hear mentioned when people talk about the affects of steroids. Bonds was juiced up and it helped his bat speed.

I do think that he would have been a Hall Of Famer without steroids because he was a very good player, but steroids pushed him over the top. Early in his career he always hovered around the .300 BA level, averaged 30-40 HR and got 100 RBI and he probably would have hit 500 HR in his career anyway. But it's unlikely that he would have reached 600 and would NEVER have reached 700 without steroids.

That being said. I hope Bonds tears his knee to shreds this year and I hope he doesn't pass Ruth. There is nothing that would please me more than to see Bonds running after a ball in the outfield or running to a base and crumpling into a heap grabbing his knee.

Good riddence Barry. I wish you were retired already.

He was a Hall of Famer before the roids. It's too bad his legacy is now tainted. You are right----his skills probably surpass any player of our generation.

you know what could have prevented the media from hounding you about taking steroids? not taking steroids.

awesome hitter...would have been an easy HOFer w/o the roids...but what a baby.

Shocking...

Bonds backs off of retirement talk

"If my knee holds up, I'll keep on going," he said. "I'm playing psychological games with myself right now. I don't want to set myself up for disappointment if things don't work out this season. So I go back and forth. Back and forth every day. These are the things that are going through my mind. This is what I'm struggling with."

Bonds can be moody and sometimes changes his mind. In May 2004, he told reporters in New York that, "Half the stuff I say, I don't believe."

Wow, that's only 50% less than what he says that I believe.

I can't respect a guy who wears massive body armor and uses it to his advantage to hug the plate.

Oh, and there is no room for Bonds on Mt. Rushmore. Ty Cobb gets his mug on there before Barry does.

I agree there should be restrictions on the size of the armor. Thanks to the armor Bonds gets away with leaning out over the plate and shrinking the zone, and it also lets him use a tiny bat while still covering the whole plate. Then he gets all hissy when a pitcher throws inside.

There are restrictions now however when the rule was created Bond's armor was grandfathered in. :?

When did he start using the armor? It's possible that depending on his start date of the armor, that it had just as much an effect on his HR totals as the juice did.

Could be. It is so wrong that he can cover the whole zone with a little league bat. That should never have been allowed to happen. If you take away his armor he'd have to stand off the plate and use an adult-sized bat.
