Well here we go.. Ponson is starting against Florida and will be followed by Reyes today.. Should be fun!

Yeah... fun...

Ponson - 2 IP, 3 ER, 3 H, 0 BB, 4 K, 1 HBP, 1 HR

Reyes - 2.1 IP, 5 ER, 5 H, 2 BB (1 IBB), 0 K, 0 HBP, 1 HR

:?

Does this make Ponson the heavy favorite for the fifth starter's role?

At the very least, he's right in the thick of things.

So you're saying he has more than a FAT chance at making the squad?

I'm sure the decision will WEIGH on LaRussa HEAVILY.

The 4 Ks has to help Ponson's confidence a TON.

Apparently Reyes was working on developing a new 2 seam fastball during the game.

This either means that he has the spot locked up, or Duncan doesn't think he can be in the ML's without one. In which case I would be disappointed in Dunc's inability to adapt his philosophy for an obviously gifted pitcher.

Or...... it doesn't mean anything, other than the fact that he's trying to add to his arsenal.

Or it could be his excuse why he got lit up by a split squad of Marlins who already don't have much fire power.

Yup. Season's over for the Cards, clearly.

nice inference. obviously he meant that because reyes got destroyed by the marlins' split squad, the cardinals' season is over.

It was sarcasm.

As if it means ANYTHING that Reyes had a bad spring outing against ANYBODY.

Wow. I'm impressed. A Cardinal fan has learned how to use emoticons.

I don't think I ever said season was over. I just implied that maybe Reyes got lit up because he pitched poorly regardless of whether he was trying a new pitch.

What that means for the Cardinals season remains to be seen.

Or that. I'm still a little emotionally damaged from the Rick Ankiel saga so forgive me if I'm a bit jumpy.

Excellent news. The better Ponson looks(stat wise obviously) in spring, the better chance he has of wasting the Cards first 10-15 starts out of the 5 spot.

Yep. And Reyes has looked horrible this spring. Ponson is the heavy favorite to be the fifth starter.

You can only hope.

It's been many years since a Cardinal starter has wasted 10 or 15 starts, and it won't happen this year, either.

Forget what? You think the Cards had better options than Stephenson that year?

Ahhh... Garrett. Those were the days.

The horrid, we can't find a 4th or 5th starter to save our lives days.

Anyway, it looks like the Cards have 7 guys that they can break camp with for the starting rotation. If LF doesn't shake out in the next 10 days or so you might see a move.

Well, I was just pointing out that Stephenson quite effectively wasted 10-15 starts in 2003.
