We all really know why he dropped out...tough steriod screenings.

Yeah. The fact that he had 3 surgeries on his knee last year and wasn't able to play until September, and the fact that this could be his last year had absolutely nothing to do with it, right?

Look, I dislike Bonds as much as the next guy, but some of this steroid stuff is getting out of hand.

"Look! He jogged down to first base on the walk! He didn't sprint because the body gets injured easier when you're on steroids!"

"Look! He was lifting weights! I bet it was to enhance all those steroid-addled muscles!"

"Oh no! Bonds has a hat on! I bet it's to hide his bald spot from all those steroids!"

Give it a rest.

Hey, erik's defending Bonds. Must be the juice.

So Bonds didn't know about the steroid testing when he first signed on for it?

Maybe he is smarter than you are giving him credit for and did this so that you will raise the exact question you mentioned.

So, do we assume that every player (Smoltz, Matsui, Dunn, etc) that turned down the WBC is juiced?

No. I don't really know what is going on with Bonds. I was just trying to get some discussion going.

Jim Rome (Gasp) had a good point today. Jim pointed out how great Bonds is: Bonds told Felipe Alou that he wouldn't bat 2nd. Then he says he's not going to play in the WBC because he could get injure and hurt his team. Nice. Always looking out for the team.

Bonds is a total scam.

screw Bonds I hope everyone blames him not playing on the juice. He's a loser and scumbag. I hope his knee's give out and he falls a few homers short of Aaron.

First: The WBC is a TOTAL joke, and so is Bud Selig for believing this "World Cup" would be taken seriously. When you have guys like ARod who can't make up his mind for which country to play for, or Mike Piazza automatically gets put on the Italian team because his last name is Italian (he's from Penn), and there is other stories like that, then you know the WBC is a total scam. And then you have the hole will they be allow/not allow to play Cuba scandal, and this tourny is already a joke. And the players know it. The ONLY ones taken it serious are the Dominican.

Second: Bonds is a scam, but he's a scam you rather trust, then Selig/WBC. If Bonds is pulling out because of injury, fine, don't need to see him or hear stories about him 24 hours a day, before I have to.

Third: Why don't they just used amateur players anyways. One of the greatest sports moments is when Team USA defeated Team Russia in the 1980 Olympics. And Team USA was filled with players who were hungry for respect, and for the gold medal. Heck even when Team USA defeated Cubs in th 2000 games in Australia, that was magical, because you have a team hungry players who played for the name on the front, instead on the back. That team had Ben Sheets whooping Cuba's bootay for 9 innings. Great memories. Just wish, they would take professional players out of international competition and return it back to AMATEUR COMPETITION.

Sorry about the mini-rant, but this topic really boils my blood.

amen

It's a blessing that he's not playing....that gives us at least a couple extra weeks of not having to hear his name 24 hours a day.

I guarantee Joe Morgan will still be talking about him if he announces the WBC.

I didn't know the Cubs were playing meaningful games in 2000.

The question is, will Joe Morgan mention Bonds more than he'll mention the great Joe Morgan?

If you took a drink every time Joe Morgan referred to his career or the Big Red Machine, how long would it take to get drunk?[/i]

I really dislike Bonds as much as the next guy, but I think he dropped out of the WBC due to pressure from the Giants. Steroids might have negatively impacted his health, which is WHY the Giants are concerned, but I don't think it's the main reason for this, especially testing. Besides, wasn't the testing mumbo-jumbo publically released before any players signed up?

Maybe we'll have a Joe Morgan drinking game thread?

If he is televising a game on a Friday or Saturday I will be there, shot glass and beer in hand.

I could care less what Barry does. He's a cheat as far as I'm concerned. When he "breaks the record" it will mean nothing to me. And whether he drops out of the WBC carries about as much weight as whether I kick a door shut or grab the doorknob.
