that's just a few examples. not all are better than dunn. not all are OF. some play positions that are already filled. some more likely than others. now please, please, oh please...pick ANYone else. and i ask THAT seriously.

You can pick any of those and start a thread. I prefer to pursue Dunn.

Now that the Reds have fired their GM, it's time to make a move for Dunn again.

The Reds need pitching. They need lots of it.

Here's the proposal:

Hill, Wellemeyer, Williams, and Murton for Dunn.

The Reds get a high ceiling pitcher in Hill, a major league ready number three starter in Williams, and a reliever in Welly. Murton is a replacement for Dunn. If the Reds don't want Murton, replace him with a lower level high ceiling prospect like Harvey or Dopirak. Allow them to replace either Hill or Williams with Guzman.

This would be a good deal.

But I think the Reds were going to use Dunn at 1B? Throw in Sing, take out Murton?

I'm not sure Sing is on level with Murton.

I could see the Reds having interest in Dopirak. They could sign a player like Frank Thomas or make a deal for a possible 1b to play in the meantime. The one problem they would have is replacing Dunn at first as they really don't have anyone to man the position currently.

the Reds would be nuts to have Thomas as a 1st Baseman...he's a DH only at this point of his career.

i do like your proposal though...PLZ VISIT THIS THREAD JIM!

So who would you give up? I think Teixeira, Bay, Wright, Utley, Martinez, and Berkman, Sizemore are pretty much not available. Wells is probably overpriced - he never seems to be great though I would prefer him to Pierre. Abreu - would you give up Prior? Crawford I don't like. Jones seems to be peaking - I'm not sure if i would give up a ton for him though I would love to have him for a couple years. Reyes? ugh. Rollins is no better than Cedeno. Beltran is too expensive. blalock is overrated, floyd would be ok if healthy and better than jones, Burrell I would love, Young? manny has been discussed, crisp would be better than pierre, nixon ok as a 4th Of. Whew. So Giles and Lee. I would love to have Lee and I would definitely give up Pierre to get him. Maybe get lee and crisp? Giles I would like as well but is he available?

what is burrell's career BA?

I'd love to have Dunn and his OBP, but he just doesn't excite me. OBP has to be the primary stat, and with him being 26 years old, he looks great on paper. How he gets that OBP is what concerns me. I don't care how you try to spin it, I'll never be convinced that a walk is of equal value to a hit.

Overall, I'd take Dunn and his OBP, but I think I'd rather see if Hill, Williams, Pie, Murton, and likes can break out. I think Murton has so much upside, I hate to regret trading him away. Dunn's size and build concerns me as well, he's still only 26, but a big cornfed boy like that could be a really old 30.

the only way a player can elevate his OBP over his BA is by taking walks. i don't really understand what you're saying here.

Walking a lot and getting a lot of XBH's with your hits > getting fewer walks and more hits but many fewer XBH's

This would be a good deal.

First: How does firing Dan O'Brien adds to the Reds considering moving Adam Dunn? My math isn't too good, but I know firing O'Brien doesn't add to the Reds entertaining trade proposals for Dunn.

Second: They traded Sean Casey to open up a spot so that the Reds COULD KEEP Dunn, Kearns, AND Pena. T he next player to possibly go is Ken Griffey, Jr--and not Adam Dunn-- and Junior's contract makes him virtually untradeable.

Third: Considering that he is a PURE threat at the plate, and that he has the certain Mark McGwure/Barry Bonds type presence, I highly doubt they'd be interested in package you mention. Now if say the Cubs offer Prior or Zambrano, Rich Hill and Matt Murton (Brian Dopirak), then who knows. But Hill/Welly/Murton/Williams (or Guzman, and Harvey) simply WON'T get it done.

Fourth: Something tells me....the Reds are not OVERLY excited about trading Dunn to the Cubs or any other NL Central team, in fear of facing Dunn 19 times a yr. Call me crazy, but there isn't package that the Reds would be tempted to deal Dunn for, UNLESS Prior or Zambrano is in the deal.

In other words....let's look at SOME realistic possibilities, cause Dunn ain't happening.

It's not just his OBP, which is nice. His ability to hit for extra bases (ie high SLG) is what excites me more.

I just personally don't like the high walk to low hit ratio. I'd like to see it even out a little. It really turns me off Dunn for some reason. Just one of the many dumb things that makes me tick.

Thank you very much. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills with all the ideas flying around. You bring up some great points.

Jmo but I can see Dunn becoming available around the trade deadline. I just can't see Cincy shaking things up too much now. Also, I think they'll want to trade him outside the NL Central. :(

I'm giving up on any big name acquisitions by the Cubs until the trade deadline when Abreu & Tejada could be available, if their teams falter. Can see either joining the Cubs before Dunn or Helton.

Double true!

Either would be a great pickup considering one of Jones, Murton, or Cedeno (Neifi) could fall pretty hard before the deadline and we'd need that extra punch to get back in the race.

I love it when people open threads (that are clearly marked, mind you) only to complain that they are sick of reading posts about said topic. It's dynamite.

I don't think I'd like to entertain any deals involving Guzman until I see what all this hype has been about this offseason. Supposedly this work he's done with Tom House has turned him around significantly.

I guess I'd rather deal Pie and Hill than give up Matty, Williams, et al.

I am preparing to get savaged for that one.

Not from me, I'm right there with you. I'd rather keep Williams and Murton than Pie and Hill, for many reasons. You're more likely to get an impact player for Pie/Hill, Murton/Williams are more suited to contributing right now, which is our window while Z, Prior, Aramis and Lee are relatively young and under contract. Plus, I think in 25 years Murton will be the better OF, and I think Williams is criminally undervalued.

I'm not sure we can wait that long on Murton.

At least by then he'll be old enough to where we'll be more confident that Baker will start him.
