Based on a Dusty Baker soundbite, taken from the convention, and playing on WSCR (I heard it at 1:20 PM on 1-14-06), Kerry Wood will pitch from the bullpen when he is activated.

No soundbite on predictions for when he might be activated, or how soon he could join the rotation.

Every sounds Baker makes bites.

I hope that somebody from Iowa steps up and makes this an easy transition for Wood to go back to starting.

What's the point??? I thought the purpose of the surgery was so that he could throw more than 40 pitches...

I'm sure he'll progress his pitch count very slowly as the year goes on.

Yep, when we're out of it by August he should almost be ready to start.

Hendry: Dempster is the closer. Dusty: Hawkins is the Closer.

Hendry: The kids are here to play. Dusty: Gotta earn it dude. Learn from the bench.

Hendry: We signed Perez to be a utility infielder. Dusty: He saved us dude.

Coming from Dusty I can believe Wood in the pen when he returns. At least till he builds up endurance to start. At which point we have to put a pitcher on waivers probably to send them down, and make a bad trade to get something for them because they will be claimed.

Someone please explain the purpose of Wood in the pen when he gets healthy.

Love the Cubs, hate what they are doing.

by the time he returns Dempster will have been exposed and the Cubs will need a closer.

I can't wait until Kerry walks after this season. Prior gets traded for a 30+ year old middle IF this offseason after he badmouths the team's effort. And Zambrano gets run into the ground, because he's the only starter Dusty (on a new contract) has that can go deeper than 5 innings.

Dusty never said that Wood is goin to the bullpen when he returns. He said that they've thought about Wood pitching in the bullpen, but he's a starter until he can't do that anymore. This is what Dusty said during one of the questions from a fan about Wood at the convention.
