More Dempster (a la More Cowbell?):

My buddy works for the Rockford tv station and called me yesterday to detail some of the Cubs Caravan tour stop. He was filming and met all the players.

He said they filmed four takes with Demp for a commercial promoting their local basketball show. Dempster was hilarious. Apparently Demp did one take in spanish which was quickly dismissed as unsuitable for airing. He had no problem approaching Dempster and said he was outgoing, laid back and nice.

He also noted that Juan Pierre, though small, has huge shoulders.

I also heard a story where some of the Bears wandered into some poetry reading place not long ago after a few cocktails. I only remember Tommie Harris specifically being mentioned, but apparently they did some readings at the mic and were funny.

"It's not that we're not big boys and can't deal with it—booing is part of the game—but you'd be surprised how much it helps with little pat on the back. As for the other team, boo the hell out of them. "

Best. Quote. Ever. :D

And for what its worth, Dempster is now one of my favorite players ever after he did that Harry Caray impersonation at the Caravan stop in merriville. I was in tears i was laughing so hard.

I loved this one.

When I was at the [Cincinnati] Reds, I wore a Barry Larkin jersey and people actually asked me, "Barry, can you sign this baseball card?" I don't know if they noticed, but I'm white and he's black. It was funny. He loved it. He thought it was the greatest.

Must have been one of those baseball cards without the player on it.....

Or maybe the picture was of Barry in long sleeves with batting gloves and one of those ski mask-type thingson his head because it was a cold day......

Or maybe people are just stupid

My favorite Ryan Dempster moment was from this past season when he was miced up for Fox Saturday Baseball and did a Joe Buck impersonation that really ticked Buck off.

HAhhaa. Anyone have a clip of this?

Oh god, I must see this.

My favorite was his sprawling catch on the Baseball Tonight setup during warm-ups.

I distinctly remember this, and this is where i planted my seat firm on the Dempster bandwagon. Demp was in the pen, and calling the game, in a Buck persona. I think i might get a demp jersey one of these days.

He was doing a running commentary and talking about Eckstein's squeeze to win the game the day before. It was hilarious. I love the Dumpster Man.

the pics of Demp in a Captain America costume were priceless as well.

Dempster is the Matt Stairs of pitchers. . . . .only more talented.

That and when he was taunting the Cardinals fans because it was really hot outside and the bullpen had a huge fan in there. He said something like:

"Boy its really hot out here man. You should really come down here, its cool as hell with this huge fan"
