My biggest worry is that the Panthers absolutely shut down Tiki Barber, and Barber >>>>>> Thomas Jones. Without a good running performance, Grossman could be exposed. Here's hoping I'm wrong

I guarantee that if Carolina wins, Thomas Jones will have had under 50 rushing yards just as Tiki did. That's the only way we can win.

I also agree with Sulley re: Fox's adjustments. The Panthers beat two teams who'd beaten them in the regular season last time they made the playoffs (Dallas and Philly). I expect, if nothing else, this game to be much better than the last one.

i also gurantee that if Carolina wins, Delhomme will either have 1 INT or 0 INT's.

Is everyone back for this game? Brown, Hillenmeyer, Ian Scott, Metcalf, Benson, Kruetz? Of all the teams would could have played I wanted the Giants first, then Tampa, and last Carolina. When they are on, they are tough. However, they have been up and down all season.

I love how the "experts" are saying the Panthers are playing better fotball coming into Chicago this time. They had a 6-game winning streak and 3 straight 30+ point games last time. It will be tough, for sure, but they were playing damn good football in November, too. The D needs to score or set up the offense with a short field for 10 points or so. I think Grossman, Jones and the offense can earn a legit 10-14 points. DeShaun Foster is running the ball very well, but he isn't the brusing type of back that has hurt the Bears this year. I think for Carolina to win Delhomme will have to win it. He is capable of that though. That said, I think we have the "D" and enough "O" to survive and advance.

Brown, Hillenmeyer, and Kruetz are definitely going to ready. And I'm pretty sure that Ian Scott and Cedric Benson will be good to go. Metcalf is still questionable to the best of my knowledge.

Cedric did play against the Vikings, unless somethign happened since then I think he should be good to go. The thing Carolina should be worried about is if they can stop Thomas Jones AND Adrien Peterson AND Cedric Benson. 3 very different backs :D

That is what really gets me. The Panthers were dominating before they came into Chicago. Just because they beat an Atlanta team that had no interest in the game, and the won a playoff game somehow they are playing at a whole new level? I don't buy it. I am not saying Carolina isn't good - I just think the reasoning makes no sense.

Even though we beat the Panthers they still pose a very tough matchup for us. They have playoff experience and I truly believe playoff football is a step above regular season football. I just really hope we dont get dominated like we did in 2001.

I heard this tidbit from Sean Salisbury but it did make me feel better (if true). He said that every game in last years playoffs, that was a rematch from a regular season game, had the same outcome as the regular season game did.

Well we've had our first talk of bulletin board material. I hate that storyline myself. Writers bait guys into giving them some sort of quote, then other writers do their best to hype up the quote, and the other team does their best to make it sound as disrespectful as possible. Unless guys are flat out saying the other team doesn't have a chance, they stink and don't deserve to be on the field, I'm not interested. And if you need this crap to motivate your team, you aren't going far on that gimmick.

I actually like some of the comments Ogunleye and Brown had. They were right! And it shows that they're confident going into the game. Hooray for trash talking!

Not this year. I think the Giants beat Carolina in the regular season.

I heard the quote, and thought he said that every game in the 2nd round of last year's playoffs that was a rematch from the regular season had the same outcome in the playoffs.

FYI, the Giants and Carolina didn't play this regular season.

Yes, that was it. Well done.

Carolina was 2-0 in the 03 playoffs against teams that beat them in the 03 regular season.

Again, don't ask me why I'm picking Carolina. There's really no rational reason. I just have a gut feeling this one will go our way.

Predictions:

Colts 34, Steelers 10

Patriots 27, Broncos 23

Seahawks 20, Redskins 7

Panthers 16, Bears 10

Haha:

Trib[/url]"]Hunter Hillenmeyer wasn't wearing a cast on the right thumb he broke in the Pittsburgh game, but the outside linebacker was wearing a T-shirt for "Kellogg School of Management," the Northwestern graduate business school where Hillenmeyer has begun working toward his MBA.

So with this playoff business, did he get a note from his head coach to get him out of class?

"I've already talked to the teachers and got the OK not to be in class," Hillenmeyer said.

Did he get loaded up with assignments in the meantime?

"I don't know if I'll be doing much studying for class the next couple of weeks," Hillenmeyer said.

Fox-TV's Bruce Wolf had a deal for Hillenmeyer: "I'll take your fiinals for you," Wolf offered, "if you take [Carolina All-Pro receiver] Steve Smith out three times."

As for the weather, weather.com went from saying a high of 38 to a high of 32 for Sunday. However, Tom Skilling is saying a high in the upper 40s. Someone's wrong.

I disagree. Playoff experience really meant nothing when NE won their first time, or when St. Louis won their first time. Or when Carolina made it to the super bowl, etc.

Probably weather.com

CBS and NBC backup weather.com. We're getting a warmup for Thursday (near 50), but Skilling seems to be the only one who's saying that temps will rise dramatically again after a quick cooldown.

I love Skilling, but I hope he's wrong.

contrary to popular belief, i don't think the bears are a cold weather team.

they're a warm-weather team, possibly even a dome team. i like their chances more in a warm setting, with good field conditions.
