Did Burnitz not officially sign with the O's? This could be a good day.

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bb/3559670.html

This is buried in the article:

The Astros' focus has shifted in the direction of center fielder Preston Wilson and Jeromy Burnitz. Contrary to earlier reports out of Baltimore, Burnitz has not reached a deal with the Baltimore Orioles.

According to a person with knowledge of the talks, the Astros are awaiting answers on the offers they made to Wilson and Burnitz over the weekend. As early as today, the Astros could have a deal with Wilson or Burnitz, who is also talking with the Pirates.

"We've turned our focus toward the outfield and adding a run producer from the outfield," Purpura said. "We're edging closer to that."

not with either of those guys you aren't.

I really hope the Astros sign one of those guys. I'm not even sure why they are interested in them.

They have Lane for LF, Tarveras for CF and Berkman for RF if Bagwell can play. With Biggio and Burke, whichever isn't at 2b in the mix. None of those are impressive, but I can't see Burnitz or Wilson as an improvement over any of those guys.

I guess I'd stick around for that.

What are the chances he'll be healthy and effective? I know he rushed back and all, but he looked absolutely brutal in the postseason.

I'd say very slim. He's coming off an extended rest, serious shoulder injury, and he is already well past the point of decline even before factoring his time off last year as well as the shoulder injury.

I doubt he's productive at all, but you can't blame him for sticking around. He's due 17 million in 2006 and 18 million in 2007. The Astros can buy out the 07 deal for 7 million. By playing this season and delaying his retirement announcement until the Astros decline the option, Bagwell guarantees himself 24 million. If he retires now, he leaves all that money on the table.

Wow. Bags may be "Mr. Astro", but I don't blame him one bit for sticking around, that's just way too much money to throw away. The Astros agreed to the deal, and Bagwell gave that franchise a LOT over the years, he deserves his money.

Since he signed the deal prior to the 02 season, he made 8 million in 02, 10 in 03, 13 in 04, an 15 in 05. So, he made 46 in the first 4 years of the deal and still has at least 24 on the table. Considering the contracts that were being signed in 2001 and 2002, some could argue that 8 million in 2002 and 10 million in 2003 were below market value. Bagwell may figure that he's already earned the payouts he's going to receive by sticking around.

Also, we don't know how much ex-wife, former stripper Shauna took him for in the divorce.

As a Cub fan I REALLY appreciate his sticking around. It REALLY warms my heart.

Hahhaahah, why in the world would a multi millionaire baseball player marry a stripper?

Conversation.

Well played. =D>

I came to the realization that it really isn't fair to mention Jeff Bagwell's ex-wife, former stripper turned model without pics...

It looks like the Astros are about to win the Preston Wilson sweepstakes.

Link.

Astros general manager Tim Purpura's hopes for landing a run-producing outfielder may come to fruition today. And if those plans work out, it's most likely free agent center fielder Preston Wilson will land with the National League champions.

"I would think within the next 24 hours, we'll know where we stand with everybody," Purpura said Monday at 6 p.m.

The Astros now appear to be Wilson's first choice.

Astros near deal with Wilson

Wilson, who earned $12.5 million in 2005, would likely get a contract worth less per year than the one-year, $6 million offer Nomar Garciaparra spurned from the Astros.

But Wilson's stay in Houston could be longer than a year. Both sides are still mulling over contract options for a potential second year.

Please be true.

He could do well down there if he tends to pull the ball. Does he?

Now that just got me out of my first-day-back doldrums. Thanks, Vance.

Those are some of the worst fake lips I've ever seen. Her doctor must be the same one that can't seem to fix Jeff's shoulder.

Well, she's had more work done to her lips since that pic...and let's just say she seems to get less and less attractive each time.

It might be the same guy that did Bing Crosbys wife's facelift. I don't think she can close her eyes.
