For the record, iamshack claims to be a White Sox fan with "sources." I don't really know...I just started reading that board to get their perspective on the whole thing.

Now they're talking about Bedard for Dunn as a follow up. But ONLY if Dunn signs an extension. That's some serious Bedard love from the OH folks.

Hell, if we trade Prior our pitching is going in the crapper so we might as well go for broke and trade Pie + other prosepects for Dunn. At least with Pierre leading off, and Tejada, Lee, Ramirez, and Dunn in the line-up we should score enough to make up for the crappy pitching.

I hope that if we do trade Prior and don't get at least Bedard back that Hendry has some deal up his sleeve to add another pitcher.

He mentioned adding another starter right out of the gates this offseason. How does he plan to add 2 if he moves Prior?

How about we keep Prior, trade Hill and another prospect or two to Oakland for Zito and call it good? That'll free up the salary Oakland needs to sign the Big Skirt. Done!

Zambrano, Prior, Zito, Wood, Maddux

Prior and Zito probably get along pretty well since they pitched against each other in high school.

What I find funny is the fact that neither side seems to want the teams to make this deal. You know, if it were such a terrible deal all around, you'd think one side would be chomping at the bit...

Thats what I thought....but I still think this is a terrible trade.

That strategy sure worked well for Cincinnati this year, no?

Well, if we're going to suck, I'd like to suck with one of my favorite players in all of baseball on the team.

Do you mean fans or front office people?

I think this trade proposal is a fair one. But that does not make it a good one. I am torn. Prior is a once in a decade talent and will likely be a good to great "value" for 3 more years. He will definately be a better long term value then Tejada.

Tejada is a player who can help the Cubs win now but in three years he will be on the downslope and expensive.

I think the Cubs have to do something to win now. But they also have the luxuary of having a young nuecleus of starting pitching. Guzman, Marshall, and Gahallager

Both sides are gambling here. Baltimore is starved for pitching and the Cubs are starved for offesenive help. Both sides want to get the most value out of the trade and then there are the players wishes to consider.

I think this thing may drag out for a while.

Just like the good old days ?? Well the CUBS didn't win today, but Sammy hit a home run.

Maybe this will convince Miggy to back off his trade demand:

Jeromy Burnitz - OF - Cubs

The Orioles are close to signing Jeromy Burnitz to a two-year deal worth $6 million per season, according to the Baltimore Sun.

What a remarkably bad idea. Maybe the worst of the winter so far, which is really saying something. Burnitz has had OPSs of 676, 786, 915 and 757 the last four years. His one good year was Coors Field aided, of course, and he had a road OPS of 775 that year. Burnitz turns 37 in April, so he's going to get worse, not better. As a one-year stopgap, he'd be tolerable. $12 million over two years is just flushing Peter Angelos' money down the toilet. Dec. 27 - 10:56 pm et

Miguel Tejada - SS - Orioles

The Orioles remain in talks with a couple of teams about Miguel Tejada, but they appear to be no closer to a deal with anyone.

Radio reports have the Cubs offering Mark Prior, Corey Patterson and Rich Hill for Tejada and Eric Bedard, but the Orioles shouldn't have any interest in moving Bedard and it's believed they prefer Carlos Zambrano to Prior. A source told the Baltimore Sun that Boston's current is offer is Manny Ramirez and Matt Clement for Tejada. Dec. 27 - 11:12 pm et

Wow. I mean, lots of somewhat witty things passed through my head, but Wow sums it up much better.

Fred, are you saying this is a trade the Cubs should do?

No, not at all. My conversation with Vance began with his assumption that it would come to pass. I'm not in favor of this trade in any way.

Hopefully the O's FO is a dumb as many people think they are and they keep holding out for more until Hendry finally moves on.

If there is one thing we know about Hendry it is that he doesn't move on.

He tried to trade for Barrett two times before Beane helped him out. He waited all Winter for Maddux to sign. He waited way, way too long for McGriff to make up his mind. He tried to get Burnitz a couple of times. Hendry is pitbull like once he locks on to a player.

Now that does not mean the trade will happen, everyone has their limits. But Hendry doesn't move on.

Ah! Cool. The whole thing seems so ridiculous. Last year, Hendry wanted to be rid of Sammy so bad, he gave him away for a utility guy and a couple of prospects while paying nearly all of Sosa's contract.

This year, Baltimore is about to fleece the Cubs again when there doesn't seem to be even the slightest reason to do so.

At the trade deadline last year, Hendry was so enamored with Rich Hill, he wouldn't have traded him straight up for Adam Dunn. Now we're offering Mark Prior AND Rich Hill along with Patterson for Tejada and used or spare parts. Why?

If Hendry is honestly dangling Prior, he needs to let the other 28 teams in the league know what he's doing so that they can line up with better offers. Of course, I'd just as soon see Prior remain a Cub and trade prospects to beef up the rotation. He dropped the ball on upgrading the offense. Now is not the time to trade from a strength to patch a weakness.

well, just like the rotoworld report says, his is from the Baltimore Sun:

In other news, the club remains in talks with a couple of teams about a trade involving disgruntled shortstop Miguel Tejada, but the Orioles appear to be no closer to trading the All-Star than they were several weeks ago after Tejada publicly called for a change of scenery

(scroll down in the article, it firsts talks about their possible deal w/ burnitz)

He doesn't give up easily, but at least it could delay a trade past the offseason. Which could potentially lead to a much differenct final deal than what we are talking about now.
