In the abstract I could see where Prior + Patterson would be somewhat reasonable for Tejada + Good Prospect with the Cubs taking on the entire salary. However ignoring the idiocy of trading Prior, including Hill in this trade just makes it totally ludicrous. Regardless of what some may think Hill will actually do in the majors he is a fairly large trading chip this offseason based on all the reports around the league. If the Cubs really are stupid enough to trade Prior (and all evidence points to yes) keep Hill and build a package around him to get someone like Zito.

Getting Markakis makes sense, but why trade Hill to get Loewen or Penn? Why not just trade Tejada and Markakis for Prior and Patterson?

Here's the thing, though-if we get the two "a" prospects like Loewen, Penn or Markakis, what's the point? Baker won't play them, and Hendry won't fire Baker, so we'd probably use whatever prospects we'd get to spin for Zito, or something.

 

I'd rather have the prospects.
