What's funny is over at the orioles message board (orioles.com) they're saying Prior for Tejada straight up isn't enough. They see Prior as a #3 starter with a history of health problems.

Granted this makes them [expletive], but whatever. They think that if they're giving up Tejada we'd need to sweeten the pot by offering Prior, Pie, and Hill. And don't even think of bringing Bedard into it.

Let's hope the Orioles front office sees it the same way and Hendry picks up his things and leaves.

Keep Prior!

This may be one rare occasion wherein watching Prior pitch (ok, too simplistic) or at least looking past his DL stints is valuable. As far as I'm concerned, his pitching-related injuries grew out of him being overpitched in '03 (he pitched over 200 innings despite missing nearly a month after colliding with Giles).

I respect the opposing opinion that Cubs fans overvalue Prior. Given the Cubs recent transaction history, I'd rather err on the side of overvaluing him. I'm still coping with overvaluing Pinto.

The fact that Tejada was a free agent and could have been signed 2 years ago makes me wonder why the Cubs are valuing him so highly now when the barrier to signing him before was supposedly ALEX GONZALEZ.

I know there's been talk about Prior being a sissy or something because he left games early and didn't pitch through injuries in '04. He pitched through injuries in '03 when it mattered. Unfortunately, despite being the best pitcher in baseball in August and September of '03, it wasn't enough. When he started a game a month after taking the line drive off his pitching elbow this past season, it laid the whole "mental weakness" thing to rest. The wailing I heard on ESPN and local radio had his career being shot to hell that day.

I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't fond of the Cubs organization. I hope he still likes Cubs fans, though. :sunny:

if the go w/ the prior trade they can count this cub fan of 30 years off the wagon. i'm not even sure i'd like the hill/ pie offer on the table. from reading the other 250 + post i see that all the arguements have already been made, but is tejada worth all the young prospects? i know they rarely pan out for us but still. having the best infield in the game won't mean squat if we give up 7 runs every other game.

no to prior trade!

From this morning, levine is cohosting today. the big topic is the "would you trade prior for tejada?"

- said that no player on this team is "untouchable", if it makes sense it makes sense.

Two offers on the table, one is a young package and the other the prior/tejada deal mentioned in another thread.

OFFER A: Guzman, Hill, Patterson, and Dopirak for Tejada. Orioles dont want Cedeno, they will sign like an Alex Gonzalez to fill the SS role.

OFFER B: Prior and Hill for Tejada, Bedard and one of their top OF prospects (didn't hear who as my damn radio cut out right as they mentioned the name.)

While he did say anybody could be traded, he is not sure if he would do it or not.

Offer A works for the Cubs and the Orioles.

Offer B works for the Cubs but doesn't make sense for the Orioles.

I doubt Hendry is going to trade Prior unless he gets something like Offer B in return. I predict that if the Orioles don't want a deal along the lines of either Offer A or B, then he'll sit tight until a better deal comes along during the season.

If offer A worked for the Cubs and Orioles, I imagine the deal would be done. To me it makes much more sense for Baltimore too. They aren't going anywhere this year with or without Prior and with or without Tejada.

I also think that Cedeno has to be part of the deal unless they are stupid enough to want Perez.

I agree. In fact, I'd probably take Patterson off that list and add another bullpen arm (Welly, Novoa, Wuertz). They need a lot of pitching. Patterson can go to Boston.

Per Bruce Levine the offer seems to have been narrowed to Prior, Hill and Patterson for Bedard and Tejada, pending Angelos's approval.

And let me say:

What about OUR approval? Dammit, I wish this was a democracy.

How many more years are left on Tejada's contract?

Edit: Nevermind, I don't even care. I can't justify Hendry what-so-ever.

I'm thinking about becoming an A's fan.

Tejada is the best SS in MLB. He's won a MVP. He is the heart and soul of the O's. Your fanbase will never forgive you and allocate their financial resources as well as their radio and TV habits towards the Nationals, your arch enemy.

Don't do it, you're only helping the Nationals.

My money is that he thinks like Hendry. :x

Is Hill a better prospect than Bedard?

And...don't the O's still owe the Cubs a player from that player that retired?

If you make this ridiculous trade, who the hell pitches for the Cubs? You're going to move Prior AND Hill?

Z, Maddux, Williams, Rusch and Bedard, THAT'S the pitching rotation you're going to send out there with your $100MM+ payroll???? With only Guzman left on the farm in case more help is needed????

I've been yelling for Hendry to be fired before he ruins this team, been saying it for nearly a year and a half now. Can I get an amen? Cuz this is the worst, dumbest move on his part yet.

DON'T DO IT.

I always thought it would be a Prior or Hill kind of thing too...not both.

I know Hendry has made some dumbass moves, but is he really stupid enough to make this one? I just keep thinking about the move that landed us Nomar and Murton and how we gave up very little to get them. Or the one that got us Lofton and Ramirez and how little we gave up. Or getting Lee for Choi.

Can he truly be this dumb suddenly, or do you think there's probably a whole lot going on that we don't know about yet?

Posted
WOW, if this trade goes down Hendry is a bigger fool than I thought. I thought our MO was to have good starting pitching? We trade Prior and we will be relying on Wood and Maddux as our #2 and #3. What a farce.

It will be simply unbelievable if this happens. I have a hard time believing the credibility of it all as it stands, but when more detailed rumors keep getting thrown onto the fire, it's hard to ignore them.

I'm taking down the flag on my wall and buying an Orioles hat if this trade happens. Then I'll make it a point to send hand-written hate mail to Jim Hendry every day between now and his much-awaited last with the Cubs. Unfathomable.

I have no words left in my vocabulary suitable for a family site.
