I'm more surprised that there aren't more sources indicating current players despise the organization than I am about Prior being fed up.

Many of the players are overpaid mediocrities who should thank their lucky stars this staff is around to both pay them as well as they do and play them as often as they do.

I'm guessing many younger players are growing sick of the Cubs. Murton is playing the good little boy right now, but most organizations that still rely so heavily on the good ole boy network and service time over achievement eventually start to lose their most quality young people.

Goony, earlier you expressed concern about Tejada possibly having to change positions. Assuming that Tejada could move to 2B and wouldn't have to become a 3B, OF, or 1B, I wouldn't be especially concerned about that, since we wouldn't be moving Cedeno in this deal.

Tejada/Cedeno until Tejada has to move (if that happens).

Cedeno/Tejada after that.

2B isn't the most obvious place for him to move. SS move because of decreased range, 2B still need range. I'm thinking 3B or LF. Regardless, once you move him out of SS, the premium you pay for production at SS is more than you should pay for production at 2B.

You don't trade young top 10 pitchers for a guy you might have to move in a couple years.

I hate when other people post "I have a source" stuff, but I'll do it anyway. Take it with a grain of salt. I would do the same if I were in your position.

I have a source I respect who tells me that Mark Prior absolutely hates everything about the Chicago Cubs organization. It's almost a 100% sure thing that he's leaving as a free agent the very instant he can. You could be looking at Tejada for four years versus Prior for three years.

Obviously, I don't know this for sure. Just something to consider.

Are you serious? The Cubs are driving me to HATE them. I've followed this team all my life, and I've watched them suck terribly. But right now, I hate every single thing about them (except Z)

There will be a new front office by the time Prior is a free agent anyway.

YOu know what? I believe what he says about Prior. Can you imagine being a good player on that team and watching all the bad decisions which have been made the past couple of years?

Were reasons given? I mean I know why I and many others hate the organization but I wonder if there are different reasons from a players perspective.

Raise your hand if you agree with Mark Prior.

I raised both. I have to agree that Prior may have something against this organization. I often wondered if it started when the Cubs waited to call him up thus setting his free agency back a year. Of course it could be the way the team has gotten worse since 2003 or both.

If I had to guess, I'd say it has a lot to do with the whole "he's just a little hurt, he's injured, there might be an elbow, no he's fine, he should be back soon, it might be another couple months, we don't know what's wrong."

The way the Cubs handled it, it could be perceived by some that they were questioning Prior's toughness and wanted him to just fight through it.

You mean he didn't love the "Prior Watch" as much as Cubs fans did???

If Prior really is unhappy here, perhaps his inclusion in a trade is at his own request/ suggestion. Maybe he won't go public with it, like Tejada ( and he really doesn't have much leverage), but maybe he's made it known that he "wouldn't be opposed" to such a trade. Whatever the reason, Hendry has done an abrupt about face with regard to dealing him if these rumors are to be believed. It definitely seems as though there is smoke here.

Agree 100% with that Goony, I got that feeling last year as well.

What's the problem he can't going surfing in April in Chicago?? I wouldn't be surprised if he wants to head back home to SoCal. The Cubs should just move the franchise to Long Beach. :x

If he's unhappy with the current Cubs organization, why would he want to go to Angelo's Orioles organization? At least the Cubs don't have a Boston and a New York to outspend and outplay them every year.

I guess I better go to mlb.com and get that Prior Oriole jersey huh? This is without a doubt the worst thing that could possibly happen to this franchise. IMO of course.

I am glad the Bears are doing good.

It does seem he always wanted to play for SD...at least in my head anyway. Maybe this is just that famous Hendry propaganda machine to get us to dislike Prior like he did with Sosa.

I believe a lot of it is related to everyone's favorite toothpick sucker and the seemingly unquestioning love the brass has for him.

If this organization keeps the stupid GM and the stupid manager over the intelligent and awesome ace pitcher, I will be nearly done with this team. Just incomprehensible incompetence by the upper management.

Pitchers know they can't talk about wanting to come out of games. And they'll get blasted if they question the manager's overuse of them. But they have to trust the pitching coach and manager will look out for them. Dusty never looks out for his pitchers. And while one of his jobs is to deflect blame away from players, he'll never do that either. It would not surprise me at all if a pitcher hated Dusty.

Ah. Is he from San Diego then?? I thought he grew up closer to LA. SD makes lots of sense for any pitcher given the park.

I don't remember where he's from, I just pictured SD for some reason. I'm sure either team would be fine with him but given the realtionship between the Cubs GM and the LA GM I don't see anything happening there anytime soon.
