This is terribly unhealthy.

But at least he'll rise with the Orioles, win three CYAs, and redeem us for our currently unrelenting negativity.

One of the many unfortunate things about this, is that I have several friends who will think it's absolutely outstanding.

sigh

It's off topic, but your sign should really read "Kneel Before Zod".

.... and then he'll rejoin the CUBS as a free agent when he's 38 years old and stink the place up to high heaven !!

Personally, I think all of these deals are TERRIBLE. Either we give up possibly the most talented pitcher in baseball from a staff that seems iffy at best, or we clean out our entire upper tier of the farm save for E Pat, and Pie. The Cubs would be initating the start of their own demise (if it hasn't happened already).

But what's get lost on people is what this means for us. We've all come to the harsh reality Neifi is going to get CONSIDERABLE playing time. So one needs to ask themselves is Tejeda that much of an upgrade (talent, contract years, dollar wise) over Cedeno (who has the chance to be a good cheap player) since Niefi will pry play second in both scenarios?? Personally I think not. The Cubs chances of short term and long term success are probably significantly smaller if they make this deal. One also needs to consdier the ramifications even if this team does trun out to be good. If we needed to add a rent a player during the season what tradeable commodities would we have left? Of the players this team is willing to part with virtually ZERO. This trade is bad on so many levels its obominable. It makes the Jock Jones signing look golden.

To put it bluntly, if Jim Hendry makes either one of these trades he needs to be immediatley fired. In the course of a couple weeks we will have lost our best pitcher, a chance at Furcal, seen an iffy RF signing, and at least 60% percent of our top prospects (at least those near the MLB level) lost in trades. And for what? Although this team COULD (and I stress) be better than last year's team, we will have DONE nothing which would make this any more assured. This is shaping up to be the worst off-season in Cub history.

Okay. It's obvious that most of us don't like this trade so much, but what do you think Hendry does next if the trade does go down? Does he go after a Millwood or Weaver? Does he spin Bedard+ to the A's for Zito? Is he okay with the rotation as is with Bedard replacing Prior? Thoughts?

I would think there is no way he'd be okay with the rotation with Bedard replacing Prior. Bedard is no better than Williams or Hill. We'd be lucky to get #3 starter numbers out of him. Tejada takes this offense from below average to above average. You'd still need great pitching to win. And the chances of getting great pitching out of this rotation without Prior are slim and none. Even with Prior they need to get somebody like Millwood. After getting rid of Prior they'd have to get Zito and Millwood.

Bottom line is you can't depend on your pitching staff to carry you and go into the season with Maddux, Rusch, Bedard and Williams in that staff.

I'm sure this has been spoken about, but I have not seen it.. What I don't understand is that Hendry could have just signed him 2 years ago, but we did not want to spend the money, so now, we are going to spend the money, trade one of the best pitchers in the league and one our best up and coming pitchers for somethign we could have just had 2 years ago and not cost us any players? Hendry is running this team into the ground the past 2 years...

well, he'll have to do something, because he won't have enough guys with arms to fill out a starting staff, unless tejada can pitch, too.

Depending on how much salary we'd have to pick up, it's entirely possible that we'd be swapping out Bedard for Prior.

Oh yeah, if this trade happens, my wife isn't going to be happy with me... She bought me a Prior Jersey a few years ago for my bday, and before she bought it she asked who I'd like to get one of.. I told her Aramis Rameriz.. She asked if he was going to be on the cubs for a long time (at the time I wasn't sure if the cubs would sign him) So I said I wasn't sure, but I told her that Prior would be there for ever and that he was my second favorite player, so I got the Prior jersey..... Doh!

This is the way I see it. Tejada would be a huge upgrade for this offense and him witha healthy rotation would get us into the playoffs and possibly even further. Now when you start throwing in pieces to from our rotation to make this deal is when it becomes sour. You do not and i repeat do not trade guys like Prior. Say if this trade goes down and if it happens I don't know what I will do. We get Tejada to start at SS and Cedeno at 2B. Bedard goes into the rotation for us. Bedard is interesting because he is a lefty who can throw 95mph and can be a good one. He was actually dominating the AL before he had a knee injury. When he came back he was getting hit hard. I know this because I picked him up on my fantasy league and watched a few of his games. The problem with Bedard is that he is injury prone, much worse than Prior and more around the levels of Kerry Wood. He already had TJ surgery and they are still waiting for his breakout year which hasn't happened yet because he's always hurt. Give Pie or any other prospect we have in the minors but do not give Prior up for Bedard and Tejada. Hendry's lack of forsight and inability to be creative might cost us Prior at the end. A lot of people here were criticizing users for being a "fantasy GMs" and as it stands right now I think most of us would not be in this ridiculous situation Hendry is in. Hendry and Baker are the epitome of clowns as far as I'm concerned. I can't believe this trade has legs.

That's what's frustrating... if Hendry would have signed Tejada in 2004 we wouldn't have had random rotating bums at SS all year and we would have probably easily made the playoffs. We could have used the spare parts we sent for Nomar to upgrade the bullpen.

I question highly any deal that sends Prior away, but he hasn't exactly been an innings-eater, even with Dusty's overpitching of him. And he wasn't a *dominant* pitcher in 2005. We do have to remember that he's going to get a big pay hike after this year.

Bedards numbers were very good in the first half of this year... he'll be better than Rich "One-Pitch" Hill. Tejada is a stud who'd make the offense very good.

I'm not pushing for this deal, just trying to see what Hendry is thinking.

Absolutely agree. I just wonder if there's enough money left to go after Millwood when you factor in Tejada's money.

Way to look out for your health! I think I'll follow your example and go do some early Christmas shopping.

For clothes to wear in a lynch mob, that is. Just in case.

There is much to criticize about the team. Having said that, it seems that every piece of news about the Cubs is greeted by some with derision to the point where it seems some people almost wallow in the negativity.

What else is there? To be a Cub fan is to eat, sleep and breathe the darkness.

BTW, I like the trade. Dusty's just going to ruin Prior's arm anyway.

We need to fire him before he makes the trade. Seriously, we're a .500 team with Hendry on board.

When smoke starts building up around Hendry's deals, they usually catch fire. Furcal is the only one I can remember that he "lost" out on. If he wants to trade Prior, he will, and if he didn't want to trade Prior he would have told somebody by now.

Me too, but im still pretty scared. If i hear news the talks are dead christmas day it will be one of the great christmas' of my life. oh and a bears division title would be great too.

The problem is Hendry already blew the budget on crap and probably doesn't have the money to upgrade the pitching to the extent it will need to be upgraded if Prior is traded. The only way this works is if the budget has been moved to about $115m and he's going to go balls out for pitching after dealing Prior.
