Three year deal! What the hell is the matter with Hendry?

This is freaking ridiculous.

I don't think it is. Now Hendry has several options:

1. He can trade Pie as part of a deal for Tejada and have all three OF positions set.

2. He can platoon Jones and Murton if Pie is playing for the Cubs in 2007.

3. He can platoon Jones and Hairston or another rightie this year.

Why is a team with a 100M dollar payroll using a platoon system? That's absurd.

Your options one locks us into one of the worst OF's in MLB for at least 3 years

Your option 2 is foolish, as Murton could bat left handed and probably outperform Jones.

Your option 3 makes me want to throw something. In no universe is Harston/Jones an acceptable platoon, unless the Jones is Chipper.

And yet he is still paying Jones 5+ million per year to play a corner outfield position for the lion's share of the at bats, at the minimum. Terrible, terrible move. Platooning Jones is worthless, because you're probably better off just playing the RH option full time because of overall production, age, upside, etc.

Having the OF filled with living human beings does not equate to having the OF "set". This OF sucks, big time. Whenever Hendry has had an option this offseason, he's taken the wrong one. I take that back, at least he didn't overpay for Furcal.

Yeah, I just got off the phone with my Dad. He's not real happy.

I hope you folks know that I wouldn't say anything just to be mean. I really am glad that he's not a Redbird which could have happened just as easily.

Please tell me you're joking? A platoon of Jones and Hairston? Yeah, that will produce some massive offensive numbers...

And if Hendry signs Pierre to an extension, we're looking forward to a Murton-Pierre-Jones OF for the next three years!

Ok...with that outfield, we sure as hell better keep Walker in the line-up. If Hendry still follows through on trading Walker, he should be fired on the spot.

Yeah I can see it now. Trading Walker and starting Perez at 2B would be the cherry on top of the offseason. I can actually see it go down like this.

Platoons are not bad, in fact, more teams should probably use them more often. However, platooning in RF when the LH version is Jones is never a good idea.

THE CUBS SIGNED JONES!!!

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

Who knows, it might work out just fine. (I'm just glad he's not a Cardinal)

There's a time and place for this type of post MET and this is not one of them.

I would be pissed if this were like a stinging loss, but this is just the stupidity of our organization, and it truly is laugher.

It feels like you're in a car sliding on the ice towards a cliff and it's all in slow motion. You know the car is going to fall down it but for some strange reason you think you just might have a chance. Now you're falling into the rocks and you still think maybe....just maybe some miracle may happen to save you but deep in your mind you know it's over. This is what Cubs baseball feels like to me.

that's the worst part of the whole thing. a panic move based on the fact that hendry couldn't find a rf has crippled the cubs' offense for the next three seasons. what a joke.

I didn't take offense to your jab. It was soft enough, and absolutely freaking right.

Come on, Vance. That seems pretty unlikely.

You expect Murton to last with the Cubs that long?

A Panic signing if there ever was one. Hendry must be feeling some heat to win this year at all costs..........even if it jeopardizes the future.

He may look at it as "if i don't win now.........there is no 'next year'"

Jacques Jones for 3 years..............wow.

Where does the other about $15 million go? You think the Tribsters will actually pocket it?

They are probably worried about the Z and Prior contracts.

I'd just frontload their extensions right now.

If he was feeling pressure to win, and he still signed Jones to this deal, then he's a terrible pressure decision maker.

So Hendry has no clue in how to win. Rely on unreliable pitching. Excellent.
