There has been talk of Boston going after Coco Crisp by offering Arroyo, if Nomar signs with the Indians. What about Williams for Crisp. If we need to, we could add Wellyto the deal. Crisp isn't the impact slugger that we want in RF, but he is young, fast, cheap, and can put up a good BA.

Those are the kinds of moves we could have made instead of trading for Pierre. It seems lead off guys were all over this place this offseason, which makes offering 1 of them 10m a year for 5 years comical. Especially since we already have a prospect shortstop.

If Hendry made Giles his major priority, he could have locked up the most difficult position to fill, which was also the biggest position of need, and cut costs elsewhere like lead off by working moves for CFers like Lofton, Michaels, Crisp, Gathright, Dave Roberts, etc....

he wouldn't be too bad, but i'd like to see his IsoD improve.

I love Coco Crisp. Really solid bat and superb defence in LF/CF, still cheap too.

I also really love Hafner, Martinez and Sizemore, and I'm reasonably cool with Peralta.

Not really that high on Broussard, Belliard or Boone. They need upgrades at those positions, plus a RF.

So I wonder where Nomar would fit in. 3B, 2B, RF? Wherever, I'd love the Indians even more if they got Nomar.

My favourite Indian is Fernando Cabrera though, for the record.

Cleveland says they will play Nomar in RF if they get him.

The lack of creative thinking by Hendry has trapped him into this corner. This obsession with Pierre and the leadoff spot could some serious overpayment for a RF or a big drop in production like a Burnitz type player.

And why didn't the Cubs think of that? Or did Nomar flat out say no to the Cubs yet it is an option for the Indians?

You can't ask me that question, because I can't answer it. My first offseason move was to get Nomar back as cheaply as possible.

It would have been a very good move to make. Especially at 4-6mil. I would think he would have stayed.

To play shortstop?

To play shortstop?

To play wherever he was needed. Or to trade to a team that could use him if we didn't have room for him with all the offseason moves.

I'd have brought him back as insurance.

Fair enough. I too was in favour of bringing back Nomar.

One idea would have been to have him play SS and Cedeno at 2B. barring injury Cedeno could be moved to SS. Can Nomar play 2B? Who knows. Nomar could have backed up ARam as well. Something could've been worked out. This lineup looks much better with Nomar in it than it does with Cedeno and Perez. As it stands right now we lost Burnitz and Nomar(granted he lost a lot of time last year) and only have gained Pierre. Offensively, the Cubs don't look good right now.

Nomar could have played second for us with Cedeno at short assuming we traded Walker. He could have played RF. He could have played SS. He would have done it at a discount to stay in Chicago.

I'll feel free to take it back if he gets injured or struggles, but I'm more than a little pissed at Hendry for basically telling Nomar to jump in Lake Michigan.

He'd do it too, if he saw someone was drowning. He's a friggin hero. Maybe the D-Backs would sign Nomar to play deep RF/lifeguard at the BOB pool

Yeah, Hendry was so myopic on having Furcal at short that he totally limited his options. Nomar's production would look good at any number of positions in our lineup, I think he could even make a passable RF. If Nomar signs with another team to play an OF spot, I hope Hendry get's drilled at the convention on the supposed comment that he made to the contrary. I'm also pissed that we didn't find a way to keep him on this team.

Bostondirtdogs has Andy Marte going to the tribe along with Mota for Crisp? Seems to me like Boston would be overpaying a lot there for Crisp

Overpaying would be giving Damon anything more than 6m a year for the next 3 years.

I love Nomar alot. I wish he was back too.

But of all the things Hendry has done, this is not one that I think he deserves blame about. He got burned once, and wasn't gonna offer arbitration, I don't blame him. Because if he resigned and got hurt again, everyone would have Hendry's head saying "he should have known Nomar was injury prone"

This is definitely a lose-lose situation for JH.

As an Indians fan, I hate the idea of trading Crisp. I'd like to see us lock up all of our top guys in long term deals. If we got Nomar, I'd like to see him in RF, while keeping crisp.

However, I wouldn't mind seeing a trade with Belliard, and putting Nomar at second.

Although I'm not exactly sure where Nomar fits into our lineup, if we would happen to keep Crisp. He'd be no where higher than 6th.

1) Sizemore

2) Crisp

3) Peralta

4) Hafner

5) Martinez

I also wouldn't mind Nomar playing third. Boone was a huge hole in our offense last year. However, we might another pitcher. Elarton just signed with the Royals. We still have Sabathia, Westbrook, Lee, and Bird.

I'd love to see Casey Blake go somewhere in a trade.

Marte is an absolute beast. He alone is worth more than Crisp, and you get Mota to take Howry's spot in the pen. It's a steal for the Tribe.

Marten hasn't proven anything yet at the big-league level. Coco has? And are you honestly even beginning to compare Mota to Howry?

I said Mota was going to take Howry's spot, not that he was similar to him.

Crisp has put up some good numbers, but he's probably not going to get a whole lot better. His ceiling is that of a pretty good offensive CF or a subpar offensive LF with good defense. Marte has the chance(as well as the likelihood) of being much better than that. If I had to guess who would produce more this year, I'd probably put my money on Marte.
