A taker for Bradley?

Dec 8 - The Dodgers and Blue Jays have a deal on the table that would send outfielder Milton Bradley from L.A. to Toronto for pitcher Miguel Batista, ESPN.com's Jayson Stark reports.

Earlier this week, the Dodgers had been discussing a deal with the Cubs.

Well that stinks guess will go get Huff now.

bradley's attractiveness was his production in CF. Pierre makes Bradley less attractive in RF, especially with his injury concerns. The attitude problems don't bother me (or the Cubs seemingly).

I agree I for one am hoping the cubs can find a way to get bradley and keep Todd Walker while also getting a Cliff Floyd type bat for Left with Murton being the fourth outfielder.

Pierre

Bradley

Lee

Floyd

ARam

Walker

Cedeno

Barrett

Wasn't it the Jays who were rumored to be looking into acquiring Wilkerson??

Maybe Hendry has thrown his hat in that direction(Wilkerson) and the jays are considering other options??

Just hopin'?

I was firmly in the "Sign Bradley" camp before we acquired a CF (albeit a CF that is inferior to Bradley). Bradley would have been a significant asset as a CF.

But (1) I think it's naive to say that his purported attitude problems are not a risk; (2) Bradley isn't be anything more than a league average RF, at best; and (3) in light of 1 and 2, he's not really worth the risk.

I agree. I don't think anyone said (1) though, just that his production in CF would be worth the risk. I really wanted Bradley instead of Pierre. :(

I agree Warren, most posters on this board have huge problems with a guy who doesn't play the whole season but have a love affair with Milton Bradley.

These our Burnitz's numbers for us last year. (Note, in 04 they were significantly better)

160 605 84 156 31 2 24 87 263 57 109 5 4 .322 .435 .258

Bradley's 05 numbers

75 283 49 82 14 1 13 38 137 25 47 6 1 .350 .484 .290

Is that really that much of an upgrade. Added in the fact Burnitz was there every day. He just came to the ballpark to play and that's the best part of him in my book. If you look into Milton's numbers they are very inconsistent. With the projected lineup of Neifi/Cedeno or Walker up the middle, Murton in left, Pierre in Center, I want a stud for right. No mediocre RF. That list is short and everyone knows the wishlist so I just hope and pray Hendry pulls one out of the hat and lands us a stud. Say no to Bradley.

While (1) and (2) are certainly true, he's likely one of the best options left for the Cubs at this point. Unless you think they can get Dunn or Abreu (I personally don't).

290 350 484 isn't better than 258 322 435??? Nevermind that he's a better defender, younger, and cheaper?

It's better but first off to defend Burny, he played sound fundamental baseball (hitting the cutoff, taking good routes, etc.). He also played in all of two games. I'm not making a case to bring back Burny, I just want a bigger upgrade in right over Burny. We have the money and I don't want Bradley and his baggage. I hold out for a Vlad or Dunn (yes I'm seeing nothing but smoke) in a trade. A huge bat that isn't a problem health wise.

While I'm sitting here dreaming here's a list of players I hope Hendry at least picks up the phone and asks if they're available.

Gary Sheffield

Jason Bay,

Grady Sizemore

J.D. Drew

Vlad Guerrero

Pat Burrell

Bobby Abreau

Miggy Cabrera

G. Jenkins

Ryan Freel (utility, not starting RF)

Wily Mo

Ordonez

in no particular order

You get the point. There are tons of players who would fit well in RF wearing Cubbie Blue. Now most players here (almost all) are not rumored in trade talks but nobody here has a clue if they're available (excluding Bruce Miles). That's why I've said all along that I'm waiting to call out Hendry until he signs a RF.

Great start with the generalization. And Burnitz 04 numbers were significantly better because he played 81 games in Coors Field. And Bradley's numbers ARE in fact VERY VERY significantly better. Granted, they are not over a full season, but I wish Burnitz's weren't either.

With the Dodgers closing in on Bill Mueller, Todd Walker becomes LESS viable for the Dodgers. But, I highly doubt the Dodgers are interested in Batista, simply because Batista isn't that good. I still say Bradley will end up with the Cubs...

is a guy capable of playing cf who has a .028 OBP+.049 slg advantage and is on the young side of his peak better thanthe guy with worse numbers who can't play cf who is rapidly aging? Are you joking? .077 OPS points is a huge amount at the same position, let alone moving from an offensive position to a defensive one

at about 5 pm, Kaplan said Wilkerson is rumored to be spun off to the Blue Jays for Orlando Hudson. not sure if that had been mentioned.

I'm interested in a couple of things, somewhat related, raised in this thread (both blamed on a perceived need for power hitters on both corners now that we have Pierre)

why has the general sentiment grown from Murton playing everyday to Murton being the fourth outfielder?

why does everyone think that Bradley will not provide enough production as a right fielder.

I am of the opinion that adding an Abreu or Dunn to an outfield that included Murton would turn this team into a fricken juggernaut, but they would still be a very good offensive ballclub with Bradley (assuming keeping Walker)
