One small moment of joy in an otherwise dreary offseason. Sweet.

I'd kill to be in your shoes right now, BTW. You still have money to spend and you've signed Pierre, Howry, and Eyre and re-signed Perez and Rusch. We've signed a backup catcher in Bennett and a backup utility guy in Cruz. Rumor has it we also have only 10 mil left to sign a 2nd baseman, LF, RF, and a fully retooled bullpen.

Cry me a river.

Wow, and all those great and wonderful deals make me shiver with joy and happiness. Not. I haven't liked *any* of these deals. Rusch and Perez are terribly overpaid and will likely block young, cheap guys like Williams and Cedeno. Signing Neifi is never a good move in my eyes. Howry and Eyre are overrated and also overpaid, though I'll admit the Eyre deal is tolerable. Pierre is certainly an upgrade over the CF disaster from last year, but guys like Bradley and Wilkerson -- who are clearly better players -- were/are available.

The obsession for a proto-typical lead-off hitter is ridiculous. Here's my simple philosophy for baseball player acquisition: get the best players you can for each position. Worry about the line-up later. Spend your money wisely by maximizing your upgrades. Use cheap players who will likely equal or or exceed the production of free agents. Hence my support for blowing Giles away with a "ridiculous" money proposal, and why I think the Cubs should dump Neifi with Luca Brazzi and just play Cedeno, and why I think Wilkerson or Bradley would be a better choice than Pierre.

Umm, buzzkill???

*awkward silence*

In the midst of all the infighting here, Hendry has provided us manna from above, in this DFA. No matter our differences, old school vs SABR, Pierre vs Wilkerson, Dusty love vs Dusty hate, Corey debates, Wood debates, optimism vs pessimism...

....everybody hates Macias, and now everyone is happy again.

what does this mean, exactly? what would dusty have to do to get him back on the field.

We have 10 days to trade him, otherwise he will be released. HE"S FINALLY GONE THANK YOU SWEET GOD THANK YOU.

Stop the presses. Does anyone know his service time? He can accept a minor league assignment if it's less than 5 years, can't he?

6 yrs:

http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/stats/player_locator_results.jsp?playerLocator=macias

This means Macias can accept assignment, he was arbitration eligible.

Let him. I hope he enjoys Iowa and the PCL, because that's where he'll be stuck. Hendry's not dumb enough to try and remove someone off the 40 man to put Macias back on.

Woa....Woa..........Woa............nobody told me the guy would be moving to the great state of Iowa if he was cut

I guess to quote GnR I'm right next door to hell.

Roast, very rarely do I laugh out loud when on this site. Sure, I may giggle a bit or smile if someone posts something humorous. I do that often. However, your post made me LOL so much that my fiancee thinks I'm weird.

Maybe Kyle Orton can hang out before games and lead them.

Or, failing that, hopefully he taught the Secret Panamanian Utility Guy Handshake to Neifi and Ronny before he left.

That very statement illustrates the power of Jose Macias. He is a uniter, not a divider.

Dare I say...Constitutional Amendment = Macias in 2016?

This thread seems even happier than the Nomar-trade thread.

Regardless...

NO MORE GREMLIN!!!!

So the big question now becomes: Who will Dusty get to pinch-hit in key situations????

:D :D :D

I would have had more faith in Darren Baker than Jose Macias last year. I would have used Zambrano, Rusch and Prior in PH situations before I would have used Macias.

I'd like to applaud the title of this thread by the way...short and sweet "Macias DFA" brings so much happiness to so many people. :D

Vance, can we get Rubby to come and sing a song in remembrance of Macias's Cubs tenure?

To be honest, most of the hostility is more targeted for Baker and his ridiclous usage of Macias....I guess he united us there as well.

Neifi, of course. He's the only Dusty Dude left on the squad. He makes the best coffee and brings Dusty his paper just how he likes it.

I'm going to miss Macias. Who am I going to make fun of now?

Neifi and Rubby.

It's amazing that parents can fail this miserably at naming children.
