resigning neifi and glendon were awful moves. Eyre was a mediocre move and Howry was above average. I really don't mind what we gave up for Pierre. Before today I'd give Hendry a D+, with the news of Pierre + Macias today it goes to a C+.

One small moment of joy in an otherwise dreary offseason. Sweet.

I'd kill to be in your shoes right now, BTW. You still have money to spend and you've signed Pierre, Howry, and Eyre and re-signed Perez and Rusch. We've signed a backup catcher in Bennett and a backup utility guy in Cruz. Rumor has it we also have only 10 mil left to sign a 2nd baseman, LF, RF, and a fully retooled bullpen.

Cry me a river.

You have Pujols, Edmonds, and rolen. Plus every guy who wears red seems to amass special powers which allow them to play over their heads. You've won 100 games this century. You'll find no sympathy here.

:P

Don't forget Mabry...

what does this mean, exactly? what would dusty have to do to get him back on the field.

We have 10 days to trade him, otherwise he will be released. HE"S FINALLY GONE THANK YOU SWEET GOD THANK YOU.

Stop the presses. Does anyone know his service time? He can accept a minor league assignment if it's less than 5 years, can't he?

6 yrs:

This means Macias can accept assignment, he was arbitration eligible.

Let him. I hope he enjoys Iowa and the PCL, because that's where he'll be stuck. Hendry's not dumb enough to try and remove someone off the 40 man to put Macias back on.

Wait, S***. So if he accepts, he will go to our Minor league squad?

Plz just cut this goof.

Woa....Woa..........Woa............nobody told me the guy would be moving to the great state of Iowa if he was cut

Hopefully Neifi now becomes the 25th man on the roster, so to speak.

You mean you want him to be the first guy off the bench?

Dusty: Jimmy, hold on dude, Macias is a valuable cog to our offensive machine. That red-headed kid will get sunburnt in all those day games. Jose can also play shortstop when that Ronny kid fails.

Jim Hendry: Shut up or you'll have to deal with Milton Bradley all year.

Dusty: Nevermind, sir. Hey, did I ever tell you that I played with Hank Aaron?

I'm going to miss Macias. Who am I going to make fun of now?

Neifi and Rubby.

Depressing just depressing...It shouldn't be that easy to name someone else.

I will say that Jose Macias was light years better than Lenny Harris. Arguably better than Tom Goodwin. Even if he wasn't, that's not a conversation any team with a payroll over $35 million should have.

Am I the only one that thinks that Rubby sounds like a perverted cartoon mascot for some internet porn site?

I've never seen such positivity at NSBB.com since I've joined. Just pure elation and it's not like we signed a stud. We got rid of a scrub.

I did a little jig for real, right in front of the computer.

No more Macias off the bench. WOW does that feel good to say.

Wow, and all those great and wonderful deals make me shiver with joy and happiness. Not. I haven't liked *any* of these deals. Rusch and Perez are terribly overpaid and will likely block young, cheap guys like Williams and Cedeno. Signing Neifi is never a good move in my eyes. Howry and Eyre are overrated and also overpaid, though I'll admit the Eyre deal is tolerable. Pierre is certainly an upgrade over the CF disaster from last year, but guys like Bradley and Wilkerson -- who are clearly better players -- were/are available.

The obsession for a proto-typical lead-off hitter is ridiculous. Here's my simple philosophy for baseball player acquisition: get the best players you can for each position. Worry about the line-up later. Spend your money wisely by maximizing your upgrades. Use cheap players who will likely equal or or exceed the production of free agents. Hence my support for blowing Giles away with a "ridiculous" money proposal, and why I think the Cubs should dump Neifi with Luca Brazzi and just play Cedeno, and why I think Wilkerson or Bradley would be a better choice than Pierre.
