The Cubs offer to Furcal was 4 year 36 with an easy incentive for 5th and then we wonder why Furcal left. Good job Hendry.

Yes, good job. 4/36 is still too much for Furcal. Give me Ronny and pray for a major RF upgrade...

Furcal left because he got $13 freakin million dollars a year from the stupid Dodgers. Can't blame Hendry for that. You can get Pujols for a million more a year.

Levine said Furcal contract was 5/47 but to get the 5th he had to play at least 200 games first two years. So Hendry didnt even offer 10mil to him.

Cubs have face to face meetings with Marlins for Pierre today. Will take 2-3 minor league pitchers. 8 teams in Pierre mix.

WSox might get into the mix if they can easily match the deal.

WSox looking to sign Mueller or Graffinino and looking to trade Damaso Marte, but will look for another lefty reliever.

Cubs will not get involved in Damon. They are looking for young players or one year deal because they feel Pie will beready in 1 year.

Two scenarios for OF. They like Wilkerson, possibly Ryan Church.

Will talk to Reds about Dunn or Kearns as a 3way trade to get Wilkerson possibly.

GM Meetings one day shorter than in the past. Hendry had 8-9 meetings yesterday have 7-8 today. Action end of the week or early next week.

Cubs like Bradley had talks with Dodgers. Small possibility

Cubs have no interest in Soriano because he won't play the OF.

Looking at Preston Wilson as well

Hendry said Prior and Z not going anywhere and Abreu or Burrell might be traded but the Cubs will approach if no other options left.

Why not just keep Dunn?

I think it was "talk to the Reds about getting Dunn, less interest in Kearns, with possibility of using Kearns to get Wilkerson."

Thanks for the clarification. I wonder if Hill would suddenly become available as part of a package to get Dunn?

I hve no problem with Cedeno at SS but that's not going to happen with Dusty. It's more like no Furcal then it's going to be Neifi. And no, 4/36 is not much for Furcal.

Hill better be available if the Reds are offering us Dunn. There's no way you can pass on Dunn because Hill is "untouchable".

If Soriano isn't being considered because he won't play outfield, then what does that say about 2B here? Who do they plan on playing 2B? Just curious as to whether someone else caught that.

This is what I gathered from the above-when those deals fall through because of Hendry' unwillingness to part with Hill, lack of nerve and/or imagination, hello Preston Wilson.

No mention of 2B during this interview.

We had the Braves beat. Then the Dodgers jumped in with the offer and said that was it. Take it or leave it, no going back and forth. hendry didn't have time to up the offer even if he wanted to and neither did the braves (it's why schuerholz is so pissed). the dodgers basically overpaid the market by 3M/year.

My guess would be that the Reds might not be so keen on trading Dunn within the Division (short of fleecing the Cubs for him) but they might be up for a three way deal where he goes elsewhere. Dunn would be an outstanding pickup for the Cubs if they could swing it. That's better than Abreu in my book because of the age difference.

Couldn't agree more. Go get Dunn!

Exactly. Jim looked at himself in the mirror and said, " I am really going to pay Furcal more than Tejada gets?!!!"

Hey, you guys bring up great points. 13mil for Furcal is crazy but at the same time a 10mil per with a good amount of signing bonus might get him. We're the ones that have a need at leadoff and have 20 mil to spend. So use up 5mil for a signing bonus give him 10 per and there's a good chance he comes here. Are we trying to improve this team or are we already setting limits on what we can or cannot do? Now we are at other team's mercy hoping they trade their guys to us.

except dunn can't field and has no speed.

I like Furcal and everything, and agree that he would improve the team, but I also do not like feeling that we are painted into a corner without options. I think we made him a fair offer. Do I think he is a top 20 player in baseball? No, I don't, and I am uncomfortable with paying him like one.

Sure do wish LA had kept out of it, though. Yet another reason to hate all things LA (I mean geez, they don't even have a football team...)

Some metrics(not that I necessarily agree) have Dunn rated as the better fielder than Abreu. And despite Dunn being a big guy, he really isn't all that slow.

Abreu is a poor defender. How in the world he won a Gold Glove is beyond me. Poor range and laziness shouldn't get you a GG.

Rusch33 and Des Moines Cub, Go Iowa. Kick the snot out of Florida again. Makes Gator country easier to recruit. As for B-ball tonight, that's tough, grew up a Hawk fan, live in Panther country.

As for the thread, I'm glad Hendry didn't overpay for Furcal. Giles is the only free agent so far that got what he's worth, and that's because he loves the sun. I have a feeling (no source except my gut) that we're coming out of the GM meetings with a big fish!!!

24/102/31/.286/.405/.474 that is why he won the GG. You didn't know that winning a gold glove is ALL about the offense?

yeah, that award is quickly becoming a joke.

MVP Baseball gives him the "shoe", that means he's fast, dude!

Of course they also give him high 90's plate discipline and we all know how that turns out.
