  1. Cubs have 21 games remaining with really bad teams. (Det-3, Sox-2, pirates-7, KC-3, Rockies-6) and really only 6 with a team clearly better than they are, the Braves. And 3 of those will probably be after the Braves clinch. Other than that they are playing teams at their level. I don’t consider the Jays much better than the Cubs. And now they will be without Bichette. Cubs are 6-0 against the Pirates, so they need to continue to dominate them. Love to see 3-1 the remainder of the homestand, but with a win tonight I would even be ok with just taking 1 from the Braves. If they could go 6-4 the next 10 this sets up very nice for them. Even 5-5 would be ok, if one of the wins was tonight.
  2. Where are you seeing that fg projections you sent? I looked and they still show Cubs at 83 wins and brewers winning the division. I know that is not the point you are making. You are showing the remainder of the season strength of schedule. But where is this projection? Also, the difference between a .480 and .500 record for teams on your schedule really isn’t that much difference. I agree the Cubs have an easier schedule but I think it is an overstatement to call it “by far” the softest. That said, if they hold their ground thru next weekend I do like their chances. Need to stay within 3. Like to see the reds go away and leave it to the cubs and brewers. They finish the season against each other so even if the cubs are 3 back they can still pull it out with a sweep. Tie goes to head to head, I believe. And if the Cubs sweep them, I would assume they would own the tiebreaker.
  3. I would rather he just play the entire year at AA and end up crushing it. Then start next year at AAA. He is still very young. Why rush him?
  4. Regardless, Bellinger is not going to sign a. Extension. Maybe not zero chance, but definitely less that 1% chance.
  5. What did Jed say to give you that idea. I didn’t hear an interview with Jed. I highly doubt they extend Bellinger. Maybe they go after him as a free agent, but I would be shocked if he signed before checking out the market. Maybe he does love it here and that will give them a slight advantage. But for the most part it will be about the money.
  6. If you mean Morel as DH instead of bench, sure, I agree.
  7. I totally agree they can’t count on him for next year. 100%. But guys do out together a good 400 AB year. Sure, he might fall off. But maybe this is his one good year. They really do need to keep playing him against right handed pitching. But I don’t expect much from him after this year.
  8. I get that and I agree with that. But for now, for this one year he has been good. As I said, maybe this is his one good year. Kind of like Ortega. I am not counting on him beyond this year. As a 4th outfielder/semi regular THIS YEAR he has been good. So ride with him.
  9. This is a good reason for the Cubs to have at least tried this year. I agree Ohtani is going to want to win.
  10. If you believe this than you are either saying Cohen lied to Verlander and Scherzer or they lied to the media about what was said. It was clearly stated he was going to step back a year or two. They paid a lot of money to get higher end prospects that could be easy in a year or two. I don’t see how they then give Ohtani $50M+ a year on top of what they are still paying those other pitchers, and be well over $300M in payroll, to not compete in 24’. I think they are not in on Ohtani. However you might be right. Ohtani may have already given them the impression he doesn’t want to play in NY. He wouldn’t ever say that exact thing. That wouldn’t be smart. But maybe there is a strong suspicion he would rather not be there. So Cohen decided to kick the can down the road a little.
  11. He has been very good. I know a lot of PSD people didn’t like him and will point out that his career numbers will suggest he will crash and burn. He came up often on PSD. But to me, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Keep sending him out there. Maybe he is the 2023 version of Rafael Ortega and will have one good year in his career. It does happen and he has been very good.
  12. If a lefty is going they can go with either Wisdom or Amaya at DH, if they don’t want to go with Morel. none are particularly great options against lefties.
  13. What’s is they really lose? Who cares. They tried to win. Maybe they will, probably they won’t. But they had to try. What is the infatuation with obtaining prospects? They didn’t really lose much for the future and they gave themselves a chance this year. Good! That is what they should have done even if it doesn’t work.
  14. And even if the Cubs have the best offer (if no one beats the Caissie/Wicks idea) the Mets don’t have to deal him. I don’t see anything here unless Alcantara or better headline it and a better second piece. Maybe a 3rd piece as well.
  15. No they are not. They are hitting rockets. All over 100mph.
  16. Honestly don’t see this as an upgrade worth losing a top 20 organizational prospect. Maybe Madrigal for Candelario would be ok. Nats get a controlled guy for a few years. Cubs don’t really lose much. For this year it helps a little. For 24’ they probably get rid of a guy who might not have a any place on the roster anyway.
  17. Nope. They can’t sell now. Even if it doesn’t work out this season, the eight move is at the very least, not to sell. No regrets.
  18. That is not going in aggressively. Again, I understand people thinking like they do. I just think Ohtani is different. I think they will go the years for him. He still might go elsewhere. But I think the cubs will bid to an uncomfortable level for them.
  19. I totally understand people being skeptical of reports the Cubs will go aggressive after Ohtani. They have not shown they would even dish out that sort of contract. However, if you believe Ricketts runs the team like a business and profit is the only thing he care about, signing Ohtani makes a lot of sense. Much more than any FA they haven’t gone after. Had they paid Turner does that bring in money? Nope. Same with Boegarts or Correa. But Ohtani brings bushel baskets of money. Between jerseys, tickets, and marketing he is a cash cow. He is the single best signing a guy motivated by money alone should make. While I still think it less likely they sign him that more likely, I do think they will be very aggressive. Just follow the money.
  20. If a closer was the final piece to a team who is definitely in the playoffs then you give up more, IMO. So if the Braves wanted Bednar they might be willing to overpay. Or the Cubs in 16’ when they overpaid for Chapman. Teams who “might” make the playoffs shouldn’t do it. I think that is the point regarding “not at this time”.
  21. Alcantara is 21 and at least 2 full years away. If/when he is ready the Cubs will have a spot for him. I wouldn’t worry about Suzucki or Happ blocking him. I’m not saying I wouldn’t consider dealing him for a guy that can help the cubs now and a few years after this one. But I wouldn’t deal him because they won’t have a spot for him. If he is good, they will have a spot.
  22. Not for a closer, for me. I would rather see someone like. Cease of Keller. I want a rotation piece if they are going to dip into higher end prospects.
  23. I’m with JD on this one. You can’t trade Horton for Bednar. Not for a relief pitcher. Maybe Cease, maybe Alonso, definitely Soto, but not a reliever.
