  1. Nothing in the Cubs past would suggest they will sign someone like Hader. I am pretty sure the Cubs will not be giving a 3 or 4 year deal for a relief pitcher.
  2. I would love to get Soto for Wesnicki. But I think you are not being realistic. He will cost more. Sure trade Wesnicki for Soto and then Assad for Alonso. Sure that would be better. And if they could do it I would be all for it. Then sign a pitcher and make a trade for a young arm. And, again, if you could do it without Morel I would be very happy. But I doubt that is realistic.
  3. Mancini and Hosmer were bad and past their prime. Their careers were near the end and not very good before the signing. Hoskins was very good his entire time in Phillie. He got hurt so missed the year. Maybe he is a risk due to injury, but he is not in the Mancini/Hosmer class. Neither of them where very good for several years before signing with the Cubs.
  4. Exactly what I am trying to say. I guess it isn’t enough for some.
  5. Alonso ops+ 136 career Hoskins ops+ 125 career. Not that different. Not enough to lose a prospect to get Alonso when all you have to do is pay Hoskins. Of course this is just my opinion. I would just rather keep the prospect in the event PCA sucks or they want to make another deal for a proven major leaguer. I am fine with you liking Alonso more. He is better. But Hoskins isn’t bad either.
  6. You do realize other teams will want to sign guys too, right? Not getting the very top of every position is hardly pulling back. Other teams also want to make trades for guys. If yiu always give the most up on trades you are depleting the system. I would rather have Hoskins and Alcantara, as an example, then Alonso and no Alcantara. And not because I hold Alcantara in high regard to be an everyday player in the team. While he might be, the real reason I want him is he is another asset, for maybe another trade.
  7. Again, what else do they do that would satisfy you? They are not going over the second level of the LT. Does trading for Alonso chance your stance? Does him and Soto and a young pitcher in a trade, plus a starting pitcher as a free agent do it. Does that pitcher have to be Yamamoto? I didn’t suggest Alonso because I don’t want to lose another prospect for 1 year of him. I don’t feel Hoskins is much worse and yiu get him for just money. But for the sake of this discussion is Alonso, Soto, Yamamoto and let’s say Woo or a different Seattle pitcher a splashy enough off season for you?
  8. I am not naming the pitcher because I don’t know the name of the other Japanese pitcher. They can go over the LT this year and then not extend Hoskins and be under again in 25’. Maybe in 25, they can extend Soto and he can move to first. A lot can happen in 25. But jf they did all of what I said that is an aggressive very solid off season.
  9. How is a Soto trade, a trade for a young controlled starting pitcher, signing Hospkins, signing a TOR starting pitcher and then a few pen arms a disappointing off season? How is that not aggressive? And they can sign Soto long term too. He doesn’t have to be gone.
  10. Well I also said sign another pitcher. I was talking about a quality starting pitcher. If they go the Soto route, and yiu expect more than that yiu are going to be very disappointed. They would be a great off season. And that would be going for it. What do you expect. Keep in mind I want Otani instead of Soto. But my comment was strictly with the idea of a Soto trade.
  11. I wouldn’t give them Horton. I would give them a combination of any of the other two mentioned. Then trade Morel for a young controlled pitcher and sign another pitcher. Maybe sign Hoskins as well and start the season. If they want they can spend a little on a few pen arms too.
  12. I agree on Chapman. I would rather save the money and play Madrigal. I also agree that if they accomplished the off season we hope they have, Madrigal will get a lot of starts at 3rd. Just hope someone fills that spot later in the season. The only wild card on the team is Morel. But he doesn’t appear to be a 3rd baseman. So he will be traded, is my guess.
  13. If accomplishing plan A means they have one of Ohtani or Soto, 1 of Hoskins or Alonso and a trade for a young pitcher and/or sign another pitcher, I agree with you that Madrigal will be the OD 3rd baseman, But my comment was Madrigal cannot be the full time everyday 3ed baseman. You even agree he should be replaced in mid-June. So therefore you don’t think he will be the everyday 3rd baseman either. I don’t think Morel will be an option at 3rd under plan A. Mainly because I think he will be needed in a trade for either Soto, Alonso or a young pitcher. So as you said they cannot fill all positions and Madrigal will open at 3rd. Hopefully he is replaced in mid June.
  14. Madrigal cannot be the regular 3rd baseman full time. That would not make for good offense at 3rd.
  15. If your list of guys we should ink in is accurate I don’t see a spot to add anyone. I think Little and Smyly are as sure as the guys you mentioned. I also think Palencia is exactly the type of guy Counsell will love and will get a lot out of. I honestly can see a trade if Assad and maybe Wesnecki providing some space to add a pen arm.
  16. Cassie isn’t below average defensively in right. That said, he probably will end up at 1st at some point. But I feel people worry way too much about where a prospect will play if/when they come to the majors. Too much concern about blocking a prospect. If a guy is good he will have a spot. If he prices he is a major league player a trade can be made. A player can chance positions, etc. There is now a DH, so that adds a spot. Let hope the Cubs have a problem if too many great players coming up and no place to play them. As for Mervis at first, I have been on his side longer than most. But it does appear to me the Cubs do not have faith in him. So I wouldn’t worry about him playing first as a reason not to give Cassie reps there.
  17. That is a good point. But would Triantos for Glasnow be fair? Borderline Cubs top 10 prospect. Also a type of guy Tampa seems to like. I don’t really like the trade simulator, However according to it, this is a very fair trade. I would be ok with something like this.
  18. But that is kind of the point. A guy the Cubs might have 11-15, Tampa may really like. So maybe the Cubs can get Glasnow for him. Using what a guy traded as a rental isn’t comparing apples to apples. As a rental you aren’t taking on as much salary. As good as Glasnow is, as you have pointed out, he is always hurt. He is not a sure thing to throw 130 innings. And he cost $25M. If someone wants to give a top 50-100 prospect for him they can have him. I don’t think be brings that. He is worth a look at if TB is reasonable on the return. If not, no big deal.
  19. I year at $25M does hurt his trade value, however. If he cost a top 10 prospect on the Cubs, I would pass on this idea. We are talking about TB here. So they will want to drop his salary. And, they may like someone we don’t even have on our radar as a top Cubs prospect. It is worth looking into, anyway. My point is they can trade for a decent starting pitcher of high salary on the last year of his deal if they can get him cheaply. Just let him go the next year. Glasnow fits that scenario. But there might be others.
  20. They can also trade for Glasnow and go over the LT if need be. The following year Glasgow is gone and Otani takes that spot in the rotation. Bingo, bango, bongo….. Glasnow gone in 25’ so back under the LT.
  21. I don’t know if a contract can be structured like this, but if the Cubs did want 4 years of Hoskins is actually healthy, could they do one for $20M with a $5M buy out or club option for next 3 years at $20M per year? If they can do something like that, I would be ok with it. If it is Alonso for a year but you lose Morel or Hoskins for a year and whoever (young pitcher) you get for Morel I would take the Hoskins option. I would also take the Hoskins for 3 more years at $20M a year (if healthy) over 6 more of Alonso for maybe $138M.
  22. I wouldn’t do that. How much does he get if he was healthy? I think that is close to what he would get had he not missed all of last year. I would rather a 1 year deal.
  23. As long as this is a Bellinger type deal and not the big off season move, I would be ok with him.
  24. I think I responded to the wrong post. Maybe I was drunk. My bad.
  25. I don’t think Candelario should block anyone either. But with first base, 3rd base and DH all available I doubt be blocks anyone. Now, your point on not wanting him is a different topic. As I said, I only see him as an ok player. I would be ok with 3/$40M. But I am also fine if they stayed away. There are other options. And I do think someone will give him more than I would want the Cubs to give him.
