I honestly did not understand taking Taillon out after 77 pitches. Why not let him go another inning and then go to Merryweather. If Cuas is your second guy out of the pen, you need to let your pitcher go another inning and get 7 in, go Merryweather and then Alzolay.

Sadly, it might take that. Gallen hasn’t been that good his last 2. And he isn’t as good as he was last year. Let’s hope his slump continues. Going to be a tough one to get today. But they can do it. They have been up to all challenges so far this year.

Wind blowing out to right. Pretty strong wind. Balls to center and right will be helped. Balls to left will be held up by the wind. Not liking Taillon’s chances today. Update: right after posting the above the wind seemed to shift. Now looks like it is blowing in everywhere. Guess when the dbacks hit the ball hard in the air we can hope the wind is coming in at that time.

Well that is encouraging. I am going tomorrow and hate that I am seeing Taillon. Maybe with the wind blowing in it will cut down on the homers he gives up and he can pitch a decent game.

Why are you discounting the Reds? Cubs lose the tie breaker to them, just like the Marlins. Also, Reds schedule is much easier than the Marlins. Honestly, I am very confident the Cubs will get in. But if the remaining teams I think the Reds have the best chance of being that last WC team. I think the Braves, dodgers, Cubs, brewers and Phillies are all in. Those other teams are playing for #6.

End result was solid. But he needs to miss more bats. He did well to pitch without his best stuff.

Nice to see Wicks doing well, but I would feel a little better about him if he had a few k’s today. None in 4 innings. Not much swing and miss.

That Bellinger slide was scary. Could have been a disaster.

Might just be for Wesnicki or something like that. I don’t think it necessarily means someone is hurt.

I agree. Against a left handed starter, I honestly thought Canario would play. They have so many right handed bats not hitting lefties, I thought that is why they brought him up. I am not complaining about him not playing, but really if all they wanted was a guy to fill a roster spot they should have brought someone else up and let him get AB. Maybe being Higgins back to give them some flexibility at catcher. He would be the emergency catcher. Not like they are stunting his progress by bringing him up. He is what he is.

But there is no difference between division winner and the 1st wild card team. I get wanting the games at home. But wild card #1 gets home games. I definitely wouldn’t lose Steele just to win the division. And most likely I wouldn’t use him to finish 4th instead of 5th. But that is a tougher decision. Home field is nice to have.

Going into the season I felt they were a low 80’s win team. Even bet the over 78.5 in Vegas. But being a PSD member before this site, listening to all the members bash this team as a low 70’s win team and anyone who thought otherwise was being fooled by the front office, I eventually just kept my opinion to myself. Good to see some positive posting.

Agreed. Basically I am saying getting in is more important then winning the division. Not going to use my best pitchers just to win the division. Rather have them lined up for the playoffs.

Aside from bragging rights no real difference between winning the division and finishing as the top WC. Sure division would be nice, but if game 162 decided the division but the loser wins the first wild card spot, and Steele was available to pitch, I wouldn’t pitch him. I would hold him to start game 1 of the playoffs. So, in that scenario winning the division is less important then starting the playoffs with your ace.

While that is true, the Reds are 21-27 since the ASB. And I have not looked it up, but my guess is the Cubs are not playing a team with a winning record in the second half of the season until they meet Atlanta(who may have clinched best overall record by the time they play..)

Right. No damage done. However even win one of those other games and Reds are close to eliminated. And they also have a nice cushion in the 5th spot. Still ok, however. Also nice to see bats come alive. P

I know it isn’t pretty and people want them to play 600 ball or better, but really 4-3 homestand works. Keep putting up 4-3 weeks and they are fine.

Not just Senga. Walker and Bassitt got about what Taillion got. Any of those guys would have been good.

I think it is more like 2 weeks or more. No way he is back starting before then. Probably more like the 20th or so.

No issue with Canario not starting. Would like to see him when a lefty starts, however. So today is not the day.

They are at the max for pitchers yiu can carry on a team. They can’t send down a position player to bring up a pitcher. Assad was at 96 or 98 pitches after 8. It was a very warm and humid day. He was done. Has Ross gone with Assad in the 9th and he blew the game the same people complaining about how stupid Ross is for going with Lieter would be complaining he kept Assad in too long. The move he made was the correct move, assuming Alzolay was not available. Lieter just didn’t have it.

No one has suggesting throwing guys away. Even if they started Canario instead of Wisdom or Morel I or anyone else has suggested that be a permanent answer. Guys are struggling. Why not give a young guy some AB.

Was this the same logic used for staying with Smyly instead of Wicks? How is Wicks looking so far(chasing a hot hand) over Smyly (a guy who hasn’t done well starting lately).

I am not suggesting him playing the field. No reason for him to play center instead of Bellinger. But giving him an opportunity at DH would have been fine with me.

Why, why does Ross keep playing Wissom at 1st? I don’t get it. also, why not Canario at DH? Not like Morel is killing lefties. Give the guy a chance against a lefty starter. Hope Morel hits 2 homers. I would gladly eat crow for suggesting he shouldn’t be in the line up. But I really wish Canario got the start.
