  1. Is the idea of Mervis dead with the Cubs? I mean if they did Hoskins and then traded Morel+ for Lowe and Glasnow, couldn’t Hoskins DH if Mervis was a consideration for the Cubs at first? And then they can still add another pitcher via FA or trade.
  2. Well if the Cubs don’t feel morel can play 3rd but Lowe can, that would be another plus. I am not saying I love the idea of trading Morel. But him and someone like Aasad for Glasnow and Lowe is very fair, as long as the Cubs get 2 option years on Lowe after this one. And, I have to think if the Cubs did something like this that would mean hey feel Morel can’t play 3rd.
  3. One for one, yes. There has to be more in this sort of talk.
  4. If Lowe can play 3rd, than him and Glasnow for Aaaad and Morel wouldn’t be bad. Lowe has 2 team options after this year. And he is a lefty bat. Again, if he can play 3rd this wouldn’t be bad.
  5. I’m not sure too many people liked that idea either. 5 years of Morel is more valuable than 1 of Alonso or Glasnow.
  6. Me too.
  7. Glasnow isn’t a bad guy to trade for even if they don’t get Ohtani, however. He is here in 24 and then Horton takes his place in 25’. I agree it works much better with Ohtani.
  8. I don’t think you are being pissy or sounding like you are posting this way out of disappointment. I think it is very likely what they would be with those moves. A decent team who wins around 87-91 games. It is ok, but not great. Maybe Yamamoto as the free agent instead helps a little more. Maybe Alonso instead of Hoskins? Honestly I don’t know. Maybe if the Blue Jays land Ohtani the Cubs do trade for Bichette? I don’t see the sense in that, but it has been mentioned the Jays might move a guy or two if they get Ohtani.
  9. This is pretty close to my off season thoughts. (Without Ohtani or Soto) but I am not sure they add 2 pen arms. not super exciting.
  10. That is entirely possible. There was a time I was very optimistic on him. I am not there any longer. When I was very optimistic that was probably as irrational as my negative feeling on him now. But that is where I am at.
  11. Love the optimism and hope the hell you are right that they are still in. But I don’t think they are. Love to be proven wrong.
  12. Maybe this is why things are popping up with Hoskins, Chapman and Bellinger. I have lost hope in an Ohtani signing for the Cubs.
  13. I don’t really want Chapman, but I also wouldn’t worry about him blocking anyone. I also don’t think Shaw will be up this year. If Shaw could play and the Cubs do have Chapman they will figure it out. He will play. My bigger Chapman issue is I do not feel he helps the team offensively that much. And it will probably get worse as he ages. Plus, if they did something like Chapman and Hoskins (as an example) and let Morel DH they would be very right handed hitting heavy. Not loving this.
  14. Love for this to be true. And, it could be. But I think the Cubs are going to come out of this without Ohtani. Hope the hell I am wrong, but IMO it doesn’t look promising.
  15. I don’t believe this. I believe Jed is all in on Ohtani. If they don’t get him it will not be for lack of effort or a proper proposal.
  16. For sure Ohtani. I thought we were talking about if not Ohtani. I have gone up and down on my confidence in getting Ohtani. I am a bit down now so just looking at what else they can do.
  17. Maybe those 3 and Yamamoto? Maybe a trade for a 3rd baseman and a pen arm? Morel can DH. Something like that. Or if Morel can play 1st of 3rd maybe the other bat they get won’t matter what position he plays. He could DH. Maybe Soto instrwsd of Belt or Hoskins ???😬
  18. Just pulled up the article about Judge. He signed on 12/20. Bogaerts and Turner were announced during the winter meetings. Scherzer was early. I think there is still a decent chance Ohtani announces his decision in the next few days. He really isn’t taking that much time. No more than the guys last year, if he signs in the next few days. And ahead of Judge.
  19. Well if this is going to bite you in the ass it will do the same to me. I don’t see how Ohtani can say he wants to win and sign with the Giants.. There will always be the Dodgers and you still have d-backs and even the Padres to deal with.
  20. Scherzer did sign 12/1. But Bogaerts and Turner were more like 12/8 and Judge was closer to Christmas. I think Ohtani will sign in the next 3 days.
  21. I think the harder choice for him has more to do with where he will be the most comfortable the next several years. He is going to make a lot of money no matter where he goes. No real wrong decision there. But he could make a right or wrong decision on wheee he fits in the best. What team/city provides him with the highest quality of life. Still could take time to make that decision as well. I am just saying IMO at this level of money the bigger decision is where he is most comfortable.
  22. Most likely true. That, I wouldn’t want the Cubs to do.
  23. I think there is a scenario where Chapman can make some sense to the Cubs. Just not at $100/5 years. If his value does slip some and he can be had for something like 4/$72M AND the Cubs signed Ohtani, he could make sense as the second bat. He should not be the main signing on the offense.
  24. But where are you getting this idea that he will sign 2/$20M? Are you saying $10M a year? That isn’t happening. He also isn’t signing for only 2 years. There really is no point suggesting you would sign a guy and then also suggest a contract he would never sign.
  25. He was been pretty bad offensively the last 3 years. And the Cubs need offense.
