  1. The example I used was Diaz. Lowe and Glasnow for PCA, Morel and Wesneski. Both Lowe and Diaz have 3 years left.
  2. Where does Ohtani live when he is in the US? Is it LA? I would guess it would be very easy for him to get a stadium tour there the day before he met all the teams. And we don’t know if he was in Wrigley, tbf. I mean, Cubs aren’t going to get him, but this criticism of them not putting an honest effort in is uncalled for. It was always a long shot, but IMO they went all in on their effort.
  3. I think the only way they consider Bellinger is if they keep him in center and trade PCA. They can probably fill 2 other positions by trading PCA.
  4. He can ask what he wants. But when we get to reality I think it will be something closer to 7/$182. And that is high.
  5. At that level I would be out too.
  6. Does he make sense for the Cubs? No real talk about him with anyone.
  7. How about a lot bigger? PCA, Morel and Wesneski for Lowe, Diaz and Glasnow. Sign Bellinger and Imanaga and a pen arm. Maybe trade for Polanco. Between Lowe, Polanco and Diaz you cover 1st, 3rd and DH. You gain 3 lefty bats. Bellinger stays in center.
  8. Lowe has 2 team options after this year too. So he wouldn’t be bad. Maybe a pen arm too? I don’t Diaz or Parades is added unless the Cubs are moving PCA.
  9. As long as Ricketts owns the team it’s going to be difficult for the Cubs to get star players. Hoyer is just following Ricketts lead. He may think like him too. But if he didn’t he wouldn’t be the president of baseball operations.
  10. Chicago named ‘Best Big City in the US' by Condé Nast Traveler for 7th consecutive year Well maybe I am biased, but 7 years in a row being named best big city in the US is pretty impressive.
  11. Yep, I think we need to come to the realization the Cubs will no be getting Ohtani, Yamamoto or Soto this off season. Have to produce a playoff team without those 3.
  12. Of those cities I would choose Chicago. Best big city in the country and top 5 city in the world.
  13. I agree with Jed being exactly what Ricketts wants. But I don’t feel the Cubs have anything to be embarrassed of on this attempt to sign Ohtani.
  14. Agreed. I will be more disappointed if he went to Toronto, however. But still not mad or embarrassed by the FO effort. To me if he goes to LA it was his preferred choice from the very beginning and no one blew him away with either a crazy offer or an amazing sell job on their team and city. If it is Roronto they out pitched the Cubs. But that is still not a reason to be embarrassed by the Cubs effort. .
  15. Maybe they will get more realistic. But it might take a while. Not like the Cubs are the only team they will work with. But right now, IMO with what they are said to be looking for, Soto is not an option.
  16. Yes Brown. Chatting from my phone isn’t always easy. Thanks for figuring that out. 😬
  17. Reinsdorf just wanted to be able to say that up until now the Sox have spent more and signed more guys than the Cubs.
  18. I think the Soto problem is what SD wants. The best pitching prospect I would be ok with dealing would be Brown. Then maybe another couple guys outside the top 20 on the Cubs. Or maybe Aasad or Wesneski. Seems they are asking a lot right now.
  19. Me too. Earlier I was convinced they were out. Now I am not sure. As we all seem to agree, they probably won’t get him, but they might not be out. And actually maybe putting Morel in a Rays offer is a sign the DH position will not be available.
  20. How about respect. Why is it so hard to believe Ohtani or his agent would call a team to let them know he hasn’t decided yet, but he did eliminate that team. Maybe he didn’t like the city, the media in that city, the weather. Whatever it is he wasn’t feeling it for that city. So why not tell them? All the teams after him have respected his wishes to keep it quiet. Why can’t he give them respect back and let them move on with their off season. I am pretty sure he knows he is holding teams up. He could even tell them he would appreciate them not reporting they are out if he was really worried about leverage. At this level not sure how much leverage he needs tbh. I just don’t think it is that ridiculous for him to let it be known to a team that he will not be going there.
  21. I do agree with you. But guys do develop at their own pace. And with Covid taking a year away from these guys 25 is on the higher side of being a rookie, but not crazy. How old was Garcia before he finally got a break and played in the majors. Maybe a different set of eyes on Mervis sees something Ross didn’t see. I know it is doubtful. But if they do deal Morel IMO Mervis will be given a chance to at least DH. They really do need a left handed bat with power. So that does give him a slight advantage. Please don’t misunderstand, if I was to bet on him having a solid major league career, I would bet against it. But he might at least be given a chance, even if they sign Hoskins.
  22. I assumed it was because Ohtani told them they were out. I never considered the price going too high for the cubs or the Cubs making some sort of ridiculous 7 or 8 year offer when others were offering more years. And, I am saying this only “if they are out”. I don’t think it will be or was their choice.
  23. Well then if they get Hoskins and do trade Morel it wouldn’t be handed to him, but if he “somehow” hit there would be a possibility of DH/1st base. I rbi m if they did a Lowe trade and signed Hoskins they would leave center and DH to fill from the system or with what they had last year. Guys like Mervis, Canario, Tauchman, PCA, Wisdom, Madrigal and any other minor league who is close.
  24. The only think that could change that thought is if Counsel was more open to playing Morel at third and actually playing Mervis. But if the Cubs trade Morel for a 3rd baseman and then sign a different 1st baseman I guess we have our answer on their belief of each player.
  25. Basically the same logic used when discussing Morel at 3rd for the Cubs. For some reason the Cubs didn’t bring Mervis back up and didn’t play Morel at 3rd. So it makes sense that they don’t believe in either options now. Just wishful thinking on my part.
