  1. This gets mentioned often. Not just you. And I get it. But the problem is, “who is even available”? Who is this mystery pitcher the Cubs should trade for? As for the pen, unless it is a closer(which, again, who is available?) I don’t see a reason to add another questionable arm now. And again, even if it is a middle relief pitcher move, who is available? Cubs are going to have to live with what they have for now. Maybe Imanaga gets back in 2 weeks. Maybe Horton does take that 5th spot. Maybe Brown goes to the pen and that helps the pen. The problem with that is the innings guys will be throwing. I agree they need someone. But I don’t see anything happening until the TDL. And, honestly, even then who is trading. TOR starter?
  2. Has he played 2 in Iowa instead of Miami how would that have helped him the first 2 games in Cincy? He just needs live action and he will eventually start hitting again. Maybe dropping him wouldn’t be a bad idea, but I doubt he would be any better now has he played 2 games in Iowa before joining the Cubs in Cincy.
  3. That is because Abbott knew how to have the hard context he allowed be hit at people….🤮. Reds got lucky today. End of story. It happens.
  4. Cubs struck out twice today and hit rockets. Maybe, previously he pitched well and struck a lot of guys out. But today he was not good. If he typically gets hit this hard, by the end of the year his era will be in the mid to high 4,s
  5. I get this and agree with everyone who says they need a saying pitcher and a late inning pen arm. But who? Who is even available. I like Joe Tyan, but why would the Twins trade him and what would they have to give up. What pitchers are really available? I know people mention Alcantara. He has just been bad this year. Eflin is another name. Last few times out he is getting hit hard. I just don’t see too many available starting pitchers. I would love Gore, but he is going to cost a lot.
  6. It is still not a skill to just have them hit 107mph balls to center.
  7. Just one of those days where nothing goes right. Abbott was very lucky and Rea has been pretty unlucky.
  8. DFA. Basically his Cub career is over. That is what they did.
  9. Justin Turner goes deep. He is coming around
  10. Even crazier is Rea is 5-0 lifetime against the Reds.
  11. They laugh on the phone if the Cubs start with Brown and Wicks. I would guess the Pirates say they get to choose any 3 players (except PCA) in the system.
  12. They might not get what we hope but I don’t think it will be because of money. They are far under the LT line. They can’t get to that amount. So I don’t see spending to be the issue. I think finding a guy available is a problem and I also am not sure they will partnwith what another team wants. Among the obvious reasons I would like to see them extend Tucker now is so they know who they can trade to help the team. If Tucker and PCA are assured of being here for the next 5 years they can trade Alcantara and Cassie. I don’t like ownership either. But in this case I don’t see them being cheap as the reason they don’t trade for someone at the deadline. For the record, who are these TOR arms and closers people expect the Cubs to go after? What teams are selling TOR or closer pitchers? &nbsp
  13. With the pitchers they have and trying to limit innings, a 6 man rotation makes a lot of sense.
  14. I agree. And they do need a guy. But it will probably be closer to the TDL. Besides that, who is really available anyway?
  15. Absolutely. Still bad with Greene pitching. But not ready to turn the game off. Could have been a lot worse.
  16. And here we go. 30-20 with basically good pitching from the rotation and now a bad one and we have to make a trade. Hasn’t been tough winning 60% of their games up until now.
  17. Either one really. They will have to limit innings for each of them.
  18. I agree. But which one? Also, when Imanaga comes back I am not sure they should send Horton down. Maybe Horton moves to the pen. Maybe they go to a 6 man rotation . Whoever doesn’t go between Flexen or Merryweather goes when Imanaga comes back?
  19. The next move is what interest me. Supposedly Hodge is going to be a minimum stay. What happens when he comes back?
  20. I also expect Greene to be closer to 90 pitches tonight than 70. He pitched 16 days ago. Pulled for an injury. Must not have been too bad since he is pretty close to a minimum stay. My guess is he has been throwing while on the IL. Unl SS they are bringing him back too soon and he gets hurt again today, I would think his pitch count would be pretty close to normal. Maybe a few less than what they usually allow.
  21. Tough pitching matchups. Even 1 win gives them a 3-3 road trip. Come home and take 5 of 6. Obviously I want 2 of 3. But even if the series doesn’t go too well, as long as they get 1 they can repay the Reds next weekend in Wrigley.
  22. For the record, statos is not a boomer. He just thinks players should play a certain way and if they waiver from what he considers how a player should act he will suggest that player disrespected the game. I, on the other hand, am a boomer, and I felt PCA ran out of the box. The lesson that should be learned here is not all boomers are the ones that yell “get of my lawn”. And not everyone who yells “get off my lawn” is a boomer.
  23. I think it might come down to what the other team wants. I would trade Wicks before Wiggins, but the team who has the player the Cubs wants might want Wiggins instead. Depending on who that player is the Cubs get back, if they wanted him enough, and had to deal Wiggins, I would do so.
  24. If this is the Shaw the Cubs are going to see the rest of they year, this is going to be a very fun summer. He looks like a different hitter. They have no holes in the line up. I know the pen takes all kinds of heat here anytime they blow a game, but I actually think Counsell is doing a pretty good job mixing and matching them up. Yes, they blow a few games. As Jason said, a good team will blow more games than a bad team simply because a bad team won’t be in the lead to blow a game. Everyone talks about spending money on the pen. Who spent more than the Dodgers? And their pen has blown as many as the Cubs. My biggest concern for the team is the rotation. They have a lot of guys that have never thrown 120-140 innings in a season. Even if they continue to perform as well as they have been(which I am not sure they will) I worry about them holding up for that many innings. Maybe when Imanaga comes back they go to a 6 man rotation.
  25. Good for Little. I hope he helps Iowa win the AAA championship. Until he can throw strikes I want nothing to do with him on the ML roster.
