  1. I don’t know. I think it is wishful thinking to assume Gore can be had. They have some good young players. Why not keep him too? I mean, I guess anything is possible, but I have to think they would have to be overwhelmed with a deal to trade him.
  2. 👍 fair enough. I agree all the guys need a day or two for rest.
  3. If he wants $500M he is going to have to be better than that. Otherwise I don’t blame the Cubs for letting him walk. BTW, for those who are slow to sarcasm, this is sarcasm. Cubs need to sign this guy, PERIOD.
  4. Rockies swept the Marlins in Miami. Now that is really bad.
  5. Yep, Tucker definitely needs a reset. I am tired of his .918 OPS and 163 OPS+. Maybe when he comes back he can improve.
  6. I was really hoping the brewers went on a losing streak. I would have loved to get Peralta. He would cost a lot, but I think he would have been the most prefect guy the Cubs could get.
  7. I agree. I have heard his name before and I just don’t see why the Nats would trade him.
  8. Assuming the Reds don’t get back in contention, maybe Nick Martinez becomes a possibility. He wouldn’t be a TOR starter, but he wouldn’t be a bad pick up. He is also a FA after this season.
  9. Cubs may be facing Gore, which could be tough. But the Nats are facing Boyd, which will be tough for them. No reason the Cubs can’t win this one.
  10. This is my feelings as well. I am not really worried about Happ. If anything I am kind of excited to know they are playing this well and they still have a Happ hot streak. I believe before his injury he was coming on. I think the last 2 days before he finally sat he didn’t do much, but I also think he was trying to play through something them. But the week to 10 days prior to that, he was beating up. I expect an extended hit streak from Happ is coming soon. Maybe the homestand or before then. IMO, he will be fine.
  11. He was playing the infield back. So that means forget about PCA. Get the out. His alignment should have told the 3rd baseman all he needed to know.
  12. But I think that is how they determine if the runs are earned. I know everything is different. I get that. But for era sake they just take what happens after. So with the same outcomes Horton gives up 1 earned run today.
  13. I think it would be only 1 earned run. Didn’t the next 2 nats make outs? Groundout scored one and sac fly scored the second. If Busch makes the play at 1st that sac fly is axtually the 3rd out, no?
  14. Should have been an error. At the very least he has to stay in front of that ball and even if it hits off of him he has time to pick it up and step on 1st. Just a bad play.
  15. Yep, innings limitation does give reason for concern.
  16. Hopefully he plays in the Detroit series. A few days is fine. He can probably use a break anyway. Some of these guys are going to get a few days off. So if it is him now, fine. But if it goes past that I start worrying. I imagine PCA is going to get a day in the next 9 games. Happ and Suzuki did get a few days already, so maybe they don’t need time off. Swanson is also due.
  17. What’s the deal with Rasmussen? He is pitching well but his k rate is way down. He also might be very expensive to acquire.
  18. But I think if they are close to a top 2 record in the NL they will still be trying to do that as well. And I doubt they will have a large enough lead in that department to bring up AAA starters. Years past, when the central winner was obviously going to be the worst division winner, I would agree with you on this plan. But the Cubs do have a real chance at a top 2 spot.
  19. You can take Counsell at his word and still know he isn’t going to let him throw 170 innings this year. There is not a hard innings limit on him and Craig would love for him to pitch through the playoffs. I believe him when he says those two things. There is nothing in that sentence that says Horton will pitch every 5th day and get 20+ more starts and then be ready for the post season.
  20. With the Dbacks falling back does Gallen and/or Kelly make sense. Both FA at the end of this year. Gallen has been really bad, put before this year he has been very good. Could he be this years version of Sutcliffe of ‘84? Sutcliffe had an era over 5 when the Cubs traded for him. People of a certain age know the rest.
  21. I would agree. As long as Imanaga comes back mid June the Cubs can manipulate the rotation to allow for guys to pitch less. Maybe a 6 man staff. Maybe they skip Brown, Boyd, Horton or Rea a time or two to limit innings. If they add a high end pitcher who can give them innings at the deadline they would have that guy, Imanaga and Taillon who won’t have innings issues. They would have Rea, Brown, Horton and Boyd to use for the last few spots in the rotation, which should allow them to limit them. Maybe they even get some innings from Assad and Wicks. They will have to play the long game and there are going to be times when people are going to be frustrated with Counsell for his rotation use. But I do trust him to do the right thing with the guys he has. If they go into the playoffs with Imanaga, Horton, whoever they trade for and Taillon and/or Boyd all being able to start I feel pretty good about their rotation. No, they can’t match the Phillies and probably the Dodgers if they are healthy. But each of those guys gives the Cubs a decent chance of winning a game and a series.
