  1. Aren’t the Cardinals weaker against left handed starters? I wouldn’t be shocked if he had a spot start in that series. Take a few starts through the rotation. Maybe Horton goes down for a bit. As you said, give Horton a little breather.
  2. He did strike Altuve out the previous 2 AB. Probably why he let him face him. I am sure he was his last batter, even if he got a single or a walk. He just happened to hit a homer on a fly ball that is an out in 29 of 30 parks.
  3. His contract shouldn’t hinder the Cubs from adding whoever they want. And he has played above his annual salary since coming to the Cubs. I just don’t understand the Swanson hate in this site.
  4. I think the Brewers are a problem. People want to discount them but they are good. I wouldn’t be shocked if the division came down to the very end.
  5. Exactly. It would be against Hader. Pretty sure Shaw comes into the game to play 3rd so that AB would be his. Not great either. But if he knew he was using 2 pinch hitters I would have gone Brujan then Busch. Brujan try to bunt.
  6. So I will ask again. If Candelario is healthy we don’t want him? He isn’t a better option than Brujan?
  7. If Brujan is going to pinch hit why not him come in to bunt and then Busch? Baffling.
  8. Yes you did. That is why I didn’t quote you. That said, he did handle Altuve all game. And let’s be honest, he hit a fly ball to left that is caught in 29 of 30 parks. And while being honest, had the Cubs brought in a pen arm to start the inning, and he gave up a run, don’t you think people would have said they should have left Jamo in? Again, not you. You said it before the inning.
  9. This sounds like a results bias statement. Jamo handled Altuve twice. He should be able to throw 105-110 pitches. Has he gone to the pen at 94 pitches and the pen game up a run I am sure people would have said why not leave Jamo in?
  10. And prior to his last 2 starts this year was doing very well. Which is why I said he was an ok #3 and a solid #4. In ‘24 he was actually a good #3. And prior to his last 2 starts he was trending that way again this year.
  11. Agreed. Jamo is a decent #3 starter. Not great, but ok. He is a solid #4. Rea is, at best a #5, swing starter. That said, this is a rough match up for him.
  12. Also, he has Cam stuck out but the umpire missed the call. He got him out twice
  13. Not sure what you mean by top guy. I don’t think they need a #1 type guy. I think a second pitcher being a rental would be ok. Kelly, Lugo sort of guy. Or a guy who has control left but isn’t as established like Cabrera or Soriano of the Angels. It would be great to get a guy like Gore or some other TOR starter, but I don’t see it happening. Maybe Alcantara, but I am. It sure where he fits in a rotation. TOR/MOR?
  14. I can agree with that. Keller isn’t my favorite either. But he is better than Rea and probably Horton too, right now. Plus maybe he limits some innings for Horton. And if they add another pitcher at the deadline like Alcantara or someone else with control they could trade Keller next year.
  15. I am not really worried about the Cardinals. But the Brewers do worry me. They can absolutely win upped 80’s this year. They can pitch, field and run. For some reason they are always good.
  16. Be happy they won yesterday. Today does not look good. Hope I am proven wrong.
  17. I would be perfectly fine with adding him. He is signed through 2028. Basically they can trade for him, use him half a year and get back similar prospects in the off season. Means you get a MOR starter without depleting the system. Leaves them the ability to add someone else. Or if they want to keep him he is a decent MOR starter who perhaps the Cubs pitching lab can get a bit more out of, for a reasonable salary for a few years.
  18. Again, I am not saying they get him. I just disagree with those who think the plan was him only here one year and then give him some ridiculous contract offer. They know what is needed and I think they will be aggressive it getting it done. Doesn’t mean they get him. And I also think they can go head to head with any team and offer a similar contract.
  19. What is really sad about the lockout is the biggest issue isn’t even the players arguing with ownership. It is ownership arguing with ownership on what is best for the majority of owners. You expect players and owners wanting different things and then meeting in the middle. I am not suggesting that isn’t an issue. It is. But it is a normal issue. Owners who can’t agree with other owners on how the game moves forward just makes negotiations even more complicated.
  20. I said I don’t think he would have even allowed the trade if he didn’t think they could get him long term. I do think he doesn’t want the bad press he will get if he then let him walk. I also think he will be very aggressive. And if he thought they could get him long term he has to know the money would be what it will be. He has offered over $400M once already. On a guy who would not come here. Tucker may be that special person he does go all in on. I think he is. That said, still not easy to sign him. I just disagree with those who act like it is a forefone conclusion the cubs will never sign him. I think they have a decent shot.
  21. I think I did say he is having a solid year. In fact in the post you quoted I said that very thing.
  22. True. But maybe Houston wanted Smith. We don’t know. And perhaps in the end people will be happy they have Shaw instead of Smith.
  23. Does. Nico hitting 2 homers in 8 AB in this park diminish the HR totals of the Astros? I mean Nico has 2 homers in Houston.
  24. I don’t sense hate. Just because some fans aren’t going to induct him into the HOF off of a decent start in the majors doesn’t mean anyone hates him. I don’t want him to do well in this series, because he is playing the Cubs. Other than that, I really don’t give him much thought. He has been solid this year. Good for him.
