  1. They are baseball old. But a very good team. Yes, Harper out hurts them. Hope he stays out.
  2. He isn’t back yet. I will believe them when he is back on the field. There is no reason for them to say anything now. Cubs and Iowa are both off tomorrow. So I doubt we hear anything more than what we just heard. And it is good news. But I will feel much better when I see him 2nd or 3rd in the line up.
  3. Phillies are always over performing? I believe that is what you responded to. It sounds like you are talking more about the Brewers. And if you are talking about the Brewers, I agree. As for the Phillies, I don’t core them as overperformkng. I just think they are good every year for the last several years.
  4. Seriously you are like that reporter who gets a little bit of information and then goes with a scoop not caring to fact check it or not. Every now and then he is right. But usually not. You went from the injury has to happen on his AB after the slide in the first inning to now saying he will be out weeks with a finger injury. Why. It just wait and see what actually happens instead of trying to be the first to say anything?
  5. I said the same thing. And, had he got the slider off the plate that would have worked too. But squally is right. It is done. No sense discussing it any longer.
  6. Good teams do what it takes to win. If they aren’t hitting they pitch. This is a damn good team.
  7. How the hell sid Danaby beat that throw? Way to go!!!!
  8. Actually, the first time Abbott faced the Cubs they hit him hard. He was more lucky than good. They squared him up all game and he only gave up one run. Yesterday he pitched well. Sometimes you have to acknowledge the other team did something well. In this case it was Abbott.
  9. Every loss is going to trigger panic by those who want to complain about every loss. It will be not hitting, bad defense, staring pitcher sucks, Counsell is an idiot,or the bullpen blew another game. 40% of the time people will panic, period! It is annoying, but that is what fans do.
  10. I, for one, am fine with Turner starting. He has actually had a pretty good May. I would understand if Counsell went with Busch too. But I think people make too big a deal of Turner playing for Busch.
  11. Not sure about that. But Reds are very bad against left handed pitching. So maybe they use those guys tomorrow. They now have 3 pen lefties. So who knows.🤷
  12. I think the bigger problem with the Cubs than pitchers starting to pitch poorly is them pitching at all. I am not overly concerned about Boyd being able to stay solid. I also think Horton will get better. If anything, so will Brown. I think the only regression the Cubs might see is in Rea. But Brown and even Horton can get better. But the innings are the issue.
  13. Agree about the pitching concerns. More due to numbers of innings they should expect. Maybe once Imanaga comes back they can go to a 6 man staff. Maybe when Assad comes back either Brown or Horton can go to the pen. And even with that they need a starter at the TDL. I don’t think they should expect any more than 120 innings from Brown and Horton and maybe 135-140 from Boyd. And assuming they make the playoffs, that is going to be hard to stay under.
  14. 👍 pen has been very good for a bit now. They are 6th in the NL, after a terrible start and a few really, really bad games. But, I am sure the first time they blow a lead or give up a run we will hear how bad they are again.
  15. But it still comes down to asset cost. As an example, if the Cubs could get Keller for less than it cost for Alcantara I would take Keller. I know you don’t think the Pirates will deal Keller, but I am just using him in this example. Basically a solid MOR guy. If the Marlins insist on a return as if he is a TOR starter he is a hard pass. If they think he is broken and take lesser assets, then maybe the Cubs look at him if they believe they can fix him.
  16. I think I would take him if the Marlins gave him to the Cubs. But I certainly wouldn’t have him on my radar as a guy to trade for, especially at any significant cost. Let someone else take a chance on him. I also agree that right now, I wouldn’t want him in the rotation.
  17. Didn’t he sign a major league deal? I think he will be with the team on Friday.
  18. They should. But, then again, Texas isn’t very good and can’t score runs.
  19. Padres scored 8 today and lost at home to the Marlins. Mets scored 4 and lost at home to the white sox. I will gladly score 2 and win against the Rockies. Good teams find a way to win. Bullpen comes through again.
  20. If the Cubs get a starting pitcher who fits in the top of the rotation at the deadline, their system will take a hit. But that is ok. That is one of the things the system should be used for. Besides coming up and helping the team or becoming an everyday player on the team, they need to be used to acquire proven solid major league talent.
