My take on that means the Cubs are not afraid to have a large mega year contract on their books. Which is good news in their pursuit of Tucker.

Last I looked Gray was going Thursday. Did that change? And even if he does go, he isn’t anywhere near the Skubal, Skenes level. He is just a good pitcher. Nothing that special.

They do. But you can’t make teams trade if they don’t want to. And you don’t want to overpay in a panic move. Shota coming back will help. For now that is all they can do.

Well they are almost $30M under now. And that is with paying Tucker $16M. So if Tucker gets paid $36M they are still $10M under without trading Happ or Suzuki. If they traded one of them for prospects they would be back to about $30M under. They can always sign a veteran bat who can platoon with whatever rookie they want to bring up. They would still have Tucker, PCA, Busch, Swanson, Hoerner, Amaya, Shaw and whoever they didn’t trade between Happ or Suzuki. That is still a very good line up, assuming Shaw is better next year. So there wouldn’t be that much pressure on the 9th bat in the line up, whether it is a FA guy for $8M or a rookie. There are several ways they can go. Signing Tucker doesn’t mean they have to be over the LT or play all rookies. And for that matter, they can go over next year because the year after, if they didn’t get rid of any of the guys in 25 several would be gone and they can be replaced cheaper. I am not a GM. I don’t have all answers. But I do know they can sign Tucker and still stay under, for at least the ‘27 season and probably even ‘26.

They had 3 lefties in the pen when Cabrera was here, so I don’t think k Little being left handed will exclude him from an option to be in the pen.

I understand frustration, however sometimes I feel like some posters have never followed a team through an entire season. Or maybe they don’t even watch any other team play. It does get frustrating to here so many people made ridiculous statements. Again, I get some frustration, but people go too far.

Cubs came into June with a 3 game lead in the division. After a terrible stretch (I say terrible because based on all I have read they have had to be terrible) they end today with a 3.5 game lead. I have also read how well the Brewers and Cardinals have been playing so it is very confusing to process that the Cubs have played terrible and the teams behind them have played great and then realize the cubs extended their lead in the central during the month of June. 🤷

He isn’t a scrub. He is a solid backup catcher. The key words there are “back up catcher”. If he hits .230-.240 with 10 homers in limited play he is a solid backup catcher up.

I don’t agree with leaving Rea in, but I don’t think that was Counsell giving up. Putting Pearson is was. But it has always been said Craig doesn’t chase wins. He wasn’t going to use a pen arm he likes to use in high leverage in a game they were losing by 3 runs.

6 weeks of amazing bullpen work and then 3 wind blowing out games and the pen goes from great to garbage? Wow!

I guess he was hoping he could get through 7,8,9 in the line up. I would have rather he be pulled and would have bet he would be. But the decision wasn’t that ridiculous. It just didn’t work out.

He didn’t pull Boyd because of his production. Boyd got hurt on that ball hit back to him.

I thought he was done after 5. I would have said that wasn’t.a bad outcome to be one down turning the game to the one. Gilbert versus Rea is a huge advantage to Seattle. Down 1 would have been awesome.

This is absolutely a results based comment. Did you say this when Shaw ran and stole second? Nope! With Garver catching the Cubs should have run. It is hard to score on Gilbert. You have to do whatever you need to do to score. He just got a perfect pitch to throw and made a good throw.

Different situation though. They also didn’t lose a star. I agree they did not add. As you said they traded for Quintana during the year. But they didn’t let any big time player go. Losing Tucker would be losing a big time player.

What bunch of prospects? If they move either Happ or Suzuki and one prospect comes up (not a bunch) they can have Tucker and be under the LT. They actually don’t even have to do that, but knowing Ricketts they will have to lower cost somewhere.

Absolutely. That is the only thing that saves Rea.

I don’t see it that way at all. If they win a World Series how does he then let Tucker go? Why not show his fanbase they mean business and want to win again? Regardless of winning or falling short, IMO the cubs will be very aggressive about signing Tucker. I don’t think how this year ends will factor into the equation.

I agree with you he will suck today. I don’t agree he is overdue. I think he has pretty much sucked the last 4 of 5 starts. One he got very lucky. He shocked the last several because for the most part….. HE SUCKS!!!!

12 earned runs the prior 2 before those. Guess that is what I am remembering. However in the one against the Nationals, I believe that was the luckiest game of the year by a Cubs pitcher. I believe they smoked the ball the entire game and Rea got lucky. And in the other one of the last 3 he wasn’t very good.

Why does it seem people are surprised when Boog isn’t in the booth on Sunday? Hasn’t he done Sunday night baseball for years? How often did he do Sunday cubs games before this year?
