  1. I think Alcantara is wanted on reputation rather than actual production. His era is around 7 right now. His K rate is under league average, his WHIP is 1.60 and his WAR is -.9. Plus he will cost a solid prospect or 2. He may end up here again. But IMO he isn’t worth the risk. I do like Gote.
  2. I think it is unreasonable to EXPECT Tucker to catch that ball. I don’t think it is unreasonable to suggest it was a ball that, has he made a nice play on, he could have caught it. To me it was a 50/50 ball. Sure, PCA catches it. But IMO Tucker shouldn’t be blamed for not catching it. It was a tough play.
  3. I don’t think the slider was a bad choice. He also looked terrible swinging at one of them OUTSIDE the zone. The issue was not the pitch selection, it is where he threw the pitch. If he throws the slider 2 to 3 inches outside the zone he gets a swinging strike. He was not going to hit a good slider.
  4. They may be better than we thought. But they did not sweep the Mets. They took 2 of 3. Still good, but not a seeep. And they have had an easy schedule. That could have something to do with the solid SP and the offense being solid. I also think you are overstating Nootsbar. His OBP is the same as Happ, less than Kelly and Tucker and only about .08 ahead of Busch. So if he is an OBP machine I guess the Cubs have 4 of them in their everyday line up.
  5. While I agree with everything you said, I don’t think bunting there was the right move. He should have been swinging. That said, I don’t think PCA attempting to bunt for a hit 5 times this year is a lot. It depends when he bunts. If no one is on base, bunting for a hit is a good idea. Doesn’t matter how many outs there are. If he can bunt to a .400 average that’s better than his actual BA. I realize bunting only gets him to first base, while swinging can get him extra bases. But if he does get a hit in a bunt he can always steal second base. Plus by bunting some, that puts the corner infielders in a little. Hell , might even put the 2nd baseman and SS in a little. Which gives him a better chance to get a ground ball through. As I said, the particular AB being discussed in the article, I agree bunting was not the move. But bunting should be a part of his game and with only 5 attempts this year, I don’t think he is bunting too much.
  6. Also, just look to LA this weekend. Angels swept the Dodgers in Dodgers stadium.
  7. After I told that story I had to look back to see if my memory was correct. It was. Both teams were in the race and the Cubs had the Cardinals between 2 Sox series. I also had a Sox fan call me after the Cubs lost in 84 playoffs. This was a year after the Sox went to the playoffs and when they lost I didn’t say a word. From that point on I realized how miserable that fan base was. Which is why I enjoy beating the Sox much more than I should, and hate losing to them much more than I should.
  8. I have always said a good day for a Sox fan was a day the Cubs lose. I have literally been at a bar where thr Cubs game and Sox game were in the tv’s and Sox fans were watching the Cubs game hoping they lost rather than watching the Sox game hoping they won. And this was back around 04’ Sox were two back of the twins and had 3 against the Cubs and then 3 against the twins. I asked the Sox fan if they could go 4-2 in those games which 2 games would you want to lose. He said the Twins games because he would want to sweep the Cubs. And I really think that is a lot of that fanbase POV.
  9. It is probably because of their fan base. That is the reason these games mean as much to me as they do, and why I worry so much about them. Dbag Sox fan annoy the hell out of me.
  10. I don’t think so. Kelly is still a solid back up. Maybe he drops back in the line up and plays close to half the games. I think the original plan was 90+for Amaya and 70+ for Kelly. They can stick to that plan now.
  11. Hey, you have to beat the bad teams. Sweeps are not easy against any team. AND the cardinals lost….
  12. Before Merryweather comes in and messes the pen up, I want to point out the Cubs pen pitched 10.2 innings in this series without allowing a run. Not sure I will be able to say no runs allowed after Merryweather pitches🤷, so saying it now.
  13. 2 hits from a third baseman. Wow! Brujan might have saved himself.a roster spot. Shaw up, Lopez DFA is my prediction.
  14. Got it. I was only playing around anyway. Should have ended with a 😬
  15. Sure is. He hasn’t started since yesterday.
  16. Is it though? They have been a complete failure this year. They are also in a division where they have to pass too many teams. I don’t think they have to wait until the trade deadline to see this is not going to be their year. I would say it “might” be a LITTLE early, but not much too early.
  17. Not surprising, considering your name, but Wisdom is in Korea, not Japan😅
  18. I would have put Turner in. But it is just one of many decisions a manager has to make. 🤷
  19. Pen has covered 7 innings without allowing a run. I think someone posted something about how nice it would be to feel comfortable with a 3 run lead. TBF, I don’t think many fan bases are ever comfortable with their pens, no matter how good they are. I am sure a few are, but not many. Cubs pen is bad, but they have been showing signs of not totally sucking. Of course, then they give up a big inning and it starts all over again.
  20. Yes, but bad teams do win 1/3 of the time. Happy for the first two, but really could uses a sweep.
  21. I don’t think the Cubs want PCA leading off, but I do like the above line up.
  22. if the throw wasn’t so terrible he wouldn’t have had to lunge to catch the ball and try to tag the runner. He did well to even get a glove on the errant throw. Therefore error in the throw.
