  1. I still think Tucker is different than any other mega star FA. He is coming up to free agency after a year with the Cubs. This is a first for them. It isn’t like not being the highest bidder for a Bregman or Judge or anyone else people want to use as an example to explain why the Cubs won’t sign Tucker. In the end, maybe they don’t get him. Maybe someone offers him 12/$540 or something outlandish like that. But I do think the Cubs will made their most serious effort to actually sign a guy to a mega contract. I don’t believe Jed traded for him without at least having an expectation they will try keeping him long term.
  2. He has been in a homer drought, however he is still pacing to 27 homers. Personally, I think he will hit over 30 homers. But if he ends up with 29 instead of 33 is it really that big a deal if his OPS are over .900 at seasons end? I think we are always low when we discuss what guys will end up getting. They seem to get more. That is why I have him at the 12/$440 range. To me, the question shouldn’t be what does he get. The question should be “how can’t the Cubs sign him”? IMO he is a must sign for the organization.
  3. I think that annual will be higher, but I do think the deal will be over $400 and for at least 10+ years. If 12 years, maybe $440? I just hope the Cubs realize it is okay to get a little creative if they have to. I believe Vlad signed his deal with a signing bonus on it for a large amount. The bonus didn’t have to be paid all up front. It was also paid yearly, equal amounts. Same as his salary. But because it was a bonus he was taxed in his home state, not where he played. Gave him a lot more money, bubbling paying state tax, and didn’t cost the team anything more. If the Cubs are ever going to play with the big market teams this is the time. And if Tucker does like it here they should tell him to come to them if someone makes him a better deal and at least match it. Losing him is different then not signing the guys they passed on. This one is here now. He needs to stay here.
  4. He has been better in June. 6 runs in 17 innings. 22/4 strikeout to walk ratio. I am sure he is still a very good pitcher. But like you said, wind is blowing out, so anything can happen.
  5. That is true, he isn’t middle of the road. I would call Kelly MOR. So you are suggrsting someone like Rea. I think the Cubs need to do better than that. Even if it means losing a solid prospect I feel they have to get a guy that would be fine with to start a playoff game.
  6. I get this. I am just saying I didn’t like Cabreral coming in. If not Flexen, then Brasier. He has hasn’t pitched in a while. I am not blaming Counsell for his decision. I realize he was one good pitch away from getting out of the inning unscathed. But he isn’t who I wanted Counsell to use. I don’t really like Cabrera. Again, I realize Counsell knows his pen arms better then any of us. I just wasn’t comfortable with his decision.
  7. A middle of the road pitcher who can eat innings (let’s use Kelly, as an example), is going to cost a decent prospect.
  8. TBH, I don’t understand why they brought in Cabrera. I was at the game and hated the decision. Jamo just got out of the 4th and I thought he would give him another inning. I get that 2 of the first batters were left handed, but I still didn’t trust Cabrera. And then when he gave up the double, why not go to Brasier? Oh well, can’t win them all. My guess is Cabrera dfa and Hisges is up. I know I am saying this after the game. But I did say it when they brought him in. I did not like the move. I was actually calling for Flexen in the 3rd inning.
  9. There are 2 really good teams and one average team in this list. Which is something people should realize, happens. I am sure the Cubs will make a list like this at some point of the season. When they do, remember this list and try to relax. I am sure NY city isn’t on edge right now with neither team winning in a week…..😬😅
  10. Fine. I am done with this. The original point was Cabrera really didn’t do that poorly the inning he did give up a run. He gave up a hit on a ball that could have resulted in an out had it been played better, and then a stolen base and a weakass single on a ball with EV of 68mph.
  11. Or he could be having TJS in the not too distant future. I highly doubt Ragans would be a consideration.
  12. What am I dead wrong about? Was Busch out of position? Yes. Did Busch get his glove on the throw without it hitting the ground? Yes. Is it possible it is harder to hit a moving target instead of a guy standing in one spot when throwing the ball ? Yes. I did say Nico could have made a better throw. Is that wrong? No. I am not suggesting Nico is without blame. But so is Busch. He could have caught that ball, and if he went straight to the bag it would have been a much easier play. What is dead wrong is suggesting another poster is dead wrong about something strictly because they don’t agree with you. It is an opinion and you and I don’t agree. Again, I have zero problem with that.
  13. I’m not sure Flexen can sustain what he is doing. I think he is striking out 5 guys per 9 innings. I don’t think they see him as a starting pitcher. I would guess he is more likely to be cut than to be the every 5th day starting pitcher on the Cubs.
  14. I had mentioned the exact same players a few days ago. So obviously I agree with you. I think the Cubs make their bench better by improving their starting line up and putting Shaw in the bench. That one deal would improve the line up, the bench and the rotation.
  15. I agree. That is why I don’t expect him to be traded until close to the deadline. I am sure if the Cubs offered Cassie, Alcantara and Wiggins now the Marlins would take the deal. But I don’t see the Cubs doing that. So Marlins will wait until they realize no one will give that much away.
  16. I can acknowledge Nico didn’t make a great throw. But IMO had Busch went right to the bag and had Nico not had to try to hit a moving target, the play would have been made. Had Busch went to the bag, even though Nico’s throw wasn’t great, Busch would have time to adjust and make the play easier. And I also think had Busch went straight to the bag Nico makes a better throw.
  17. I think Alcantara will be pricey. Probably more than most of us would want. But Bowden is ridiculous. I think someone else posted something like Cassie and a minor league pitching prospect not named Wiggins for Alcantara. That is probably close. Maybe the Cubs have to add a 3rd piece that is not a top 30 in the system.
  18. You are right that era could not capture runs they gave up coming into an inning with guys on base. But honestly, I think that may have happened less than a handful of times. Seems most times cubs starters finish an inning and the pen takes over from there. I have seen a pen arm come in to replace another pen arm, but that would show on the overall pen era.
  19. I am just going to agree to disagree. Busch made a bad play, not Nico. Because Busch was out of position Nico had to try leading him. If he went right to the bag the play is made easily. Even with the throw not being perfect, it was more on Busch than Nico. Had Busch been where he should have been at the proper time he could have adjusted easier. I am not suggesting the throw by Nico was great. I am saying Busch made Nico make a harder throw than he normally would have had to make. And that said, the ball still hit Busch’s glove on a fly. I agree that no error should have been charged, but because of Busch’s original actions it turned into a tough play that normally wouldn’t have to be tough.
  20. It hit him in the glove. How is that a bad throw? He got it to him in the air and to his glove. He lobbed it a little to give Busch time to get back. The throw was a little strange but that is because Busch was out of place. Has Busch just went to first it would have been an easy out.
  21. I think Cabrera will be the first to go when either Imanaga or Hodge comes back. After that a real decision needs to be made for the second pitcher to take action on. Is it Horton or Brown to AAA or Flexen released? If I had to guess, if Flexen is still getting the job done when this decision has to be made the Cubs will send Brown down. Limit his innings a bit and let him work on a 3rd pitch. I still think he can be a good starter, so the demotion isn’t because of his ability. It would be more to limit innings and monitor him closely.
  22. And if Busch goes to first on that first ball they get the out. He didn’t do that bad. The rbi was on a ball hit 68 mph.
  23. I know your point. I am just saying I don’t want Wilson from the Red Sox. TBH I don’t want Chapman either, but mainly because I don’t think he is a closer I would want. I am more concerned about that than I am his actions over a decade ago. If the Cubs go after a relief pitcher he needs to be a sure 9th inning guy. Chapman isn’t that.
