  1. I know your point. I am just saying I don’t want Wilson from the Red Sox. TBH I don’t want Chapman either, but mainly because I don’t think he is a closer I would want. I am more concerned about that than I am his actions over a decade ago. If the Cubs go after a relief pitcher he needs to be a sure 9th inning guy. Chapman isn’t that.
  2. An example of a guy I have no interest in. I know that isn’t your point. But to me Justin Wilson no different than any pen arm the Cubs currently have. He is a middle relief pitcher who may or may not be good the rest of the year.
  3. Imanaga comes back and they trade for a solid starter. That is a rotation 4 deep and they still have Horton. Maybe Assad comes back and helps. Maybe Counsell does a bullpen day every so often. I don’t see them getting 2 starting pitchers.
  4. Ok, just going to put this out there. Cubs are not going to replace Turner. They may get a bench bat, maybe even Burger. But he won’t replace Turner. They need to upgrade for either Berti or Brujan. But even that isn’t that important to me. Not because they don’t need one. But because no one they could get is a sure upgrade over someone they can bring up from AAA to fill the bench spot.
  5. I agree with this. I don’t think sending Brown down for 15 days or even a little more to work on a 3rd pitch and then maybe sending Horton down a bit with the same excuse is actually anything all that creative. I don’t have a problem with letting Rea start a few games either,!if that saves 6 innings from Horton. A trade for one starter and then smart use of Brown, Horton and Rea should allow both Horton and Brown to have a few innings in them come the playoffs. Neither would start in the playoffs, so they might not get that many innings. I don’t think anyone is exaggerating the amount of innings the Cubs need to save. No idea has them shutting down either pitcher. Just allowing them to miss maybe 3 starts while also limiting the Rea starts.
  6. There are no tea leaves whatsoever. Jed has never alluded to Tucker being a rental, as a fact. Only those who want to be negative about everything read or listen to anything Jed says and turn it into a negative statement. That said, Cubs still might not get Tucker after this year. I think they have a better chance than any other team in the game. But even the best chance is probably only a 30-35% chance. I just disagree it is a forgone conclusion he will not be here after this year.
  7. I’m not sure I trust Little to throw strikes. However, I am still not sold on Cabrera either.
  8. Maybe you are right. In your scenerio how do they limit Horton? Do you have them starting Rea with Horton going to the pen? Or are you suggesting a second starting pitcher via trade? I am pretty sure you agree Horton cannot pitch every 5th game without any restrictions. I know you are a big Horton guy (I like him too) but you have also have suggested he does need to ease a bit into innings this year. (I also agree with that) How do they do it? 🤷
  9. I would think with days off and a manager like Counsell, who is creative, the cubs could send Brown and Horton down to AAA and then back up for their start. Then they can carry 8 pen arms at all times, line every other team.
  10. I agree that if they get a quality starting pitcher I wouldn’t worry about the pen, with the exception of a top closer. I wouldn’t pick up a journeyman middle relief pitcher. They are fine there. Just get the best starting pitcher they can get. As for a bench bat, I think once the AAA season ends they can bring up someone. I am not that worried about the bench bat.
  11. How about one stop shopping on Suarez and either Kelly or Gallen. All are FA at the end of the year.
  12. Well Imanaga replaces Rea. Another starting pitcher, preferably a TOR starter gets added. That makes Taillion, Imanaga, Boyd and the starter added, which would be 4 of a 5 man in the rotation. Brown and Horton can fill in on the 5th spot, which would limit their innings. They would be going every 10 games instead of 5. If they trade for one starting pitcher they can limit each of those guys. Plus Assad might be back. If they wanted to, they can spot start Rea once or twice. Maybe even some sort of 6 man rotation. By getting one starter and getting Imanaga back they can absolutely limit innings on guys. Yes, come actual playoff time a stud pen arm can be as valuable as a starting pitcher. But they have to get there. And I would like to do that with Brown and Horton still having some innings in their arms. I am not arguing against a pen arm. I am saying if they get one I want a 9th inning guy. I think they have plenty of middle relievers.
  13. Gilbert is still a very good pitcher and he will have one game pitched before facing the Cubs. They do seem to be running into some quality pitchers.
  14. Yep, they get Gilbert and Kirby. They also get Peralta and the top rookie prospect who no hit the Cardinals into the 6th. So 4 of the 6 games the rest of this homestand they face great pitching. But I think the wind will be blowing out.
  15. As long as if they went pen, it was high end pen arm. My first choice would be high end starting pitcher, but if not that then high end pen arm. And I really don’t know of any high end pen arms who would realistically be available. To me the only difference in rotation arm versus pen arms would be if the Cubs don’t get a TOR starter I would be ok with a guy like Keller, Fedde, Lugo, etc…. where if the Cubs didn’t get a high end pen arm, I feel a middle relief pitcher is kind of redundant. They have those. To me they need a starting pitcher regardless of if he is TOR or MOR. They need to limit Brown and Horton innings. And replace Rea.
  16. 😅 I totally deserved that. But it is what happens when posting without reading glasses and not double checking before sending. I wish it was for the reason you are hinting at….. I think I corrected my response now.
  17. I also think it helped the Cubs a bit in that maybe he helps the Giants win a game or two from the Dodgers that maybe they don’t win without him. LA has a have a win or two less at the end of the season and that can give the Cubs a better chance at the first round bye. Whether they have to play the Giants, Phillies, Mets, Dodgers or SD doesn’t really matter to me. They are all good and all series can be a toss up. But being able to play one less series is a bigger deal to me. So I don’t care much that the Giants got better. It might help us. I also don’t care that now maybe the Red Sox have money to spend. San Francisco doesn’t have the money so they neutralize each other. As for putting pressure on Hoyer, sure, it may. But to me that is also a good thing.
  18. Way too early for this talk. Even a sweep of the Brewers doesn’t put them away. Yes, it makes things difficult for them but there are 86 games to go after these 3. And, I doubt the Cubs sweep. This next series is going to be tough. Hopefully they win the first one then get one of the next two after that. Last two pitchers in the series are going to be tough.
  19. 2 out of 3 would be awesome. 3 more games off the schedule and gain a game.
  20. He wanted an explanation. You cannot review a fair or foul call in the infield. That is why the Pirates couldn’t ask for a review. He probably wanted to know why the guy closest to the ball was overruled by umpires further away.
  21. Yes, which is why they need another starting pitcher asap. I am sure Horton is in one as well.
  22. Probably invisible since I doubt there is such a thing. I think Lugo would be a way more realistic option for the Cubs if KC sold. But I think that is a long way off.
  23. Who has the Cubs 2-1 against the Pirates after 3 games.✋🏼I did. Honestly that is all that matters. They are slumping offensively. No one will argue that. But it happens. If they can play .500 ball while slumping with the bat, that isn’t bad.
  24. You do you. I didn’t like Chapman in ‘16 either. But I sure enjoyed that season. I want that enjoyment again.
  25. I am not sure what you mean by me being too much in protest mode, but I do know most posters share my views politically, here. So going back to baseball, I try to seperate my view of a ballplayers and how he plays the game from my view of him personally. I know there are a lot of bad actors in sports and frankly everywhere. So hard for me to get worked up if the Cubs did trade for Chapman. I don’t like him personally, but I wouldn’t disown the Cubs if they did trade for him.
