  1. Isn’t Wicks hurt? Is he back? Also they need to limit innings. They can use a starter who eats innings to lower the innings if Brown, Horton and even Boyd.
  2. I am thinking more 2015 because it basically snuck up on people. I think like 2015 people had hope like this years team, but didn’t expect this much success.
  3. I think recent bias is in play here. 2016 was the most fun ever for Cubs fans. This is a good team and fun to watch, but it isn’t 2016. Maybe I am biased because I went to 35 games that year. In those 35 games I was at game 5 of the WS. And that isn’t even a top 2 game I went to that year. I was also at game 2 against the Giants in the first round. They beat the shark that day. But the 2 best games I was at are the Montero game where the park literally shook when he hit the grand slam. And then, or course, then greatest game ever played at Wrigley, game 6, the one to get them into the World Series. It wasn’t as loud as the Montero game. I think people were just watching and praying and taking it all in. We were actually robbed of being able to stand for the last out when Puig hit Into the double play. There was more a sense of relief and all sorts of people crying when they actually won. It ended so quickly people didn’t have time to cheer. So like I said, maybe my bias is because of those memories. This team has a chance to create that again. But it will be very hard to top the excitement that 2016 brought to Chicago.
  4. Yep, that is why I think 4-5 is very possible. That is why I am not afraid of those teams. But Yankees are 20-10 at home, Tigers are 21-8 and Phillies are 19-12. Sure, Cubs can play them well and maybe even beat them. It is very possible. But those are 3 very good teams all on the road. I wouldn’t be shocked if the Cubs did better, I am just saying they need to tread water in those 3 series. 4-5 against 3 trams with a composite home record of 60-30 isn’t bad.
  5. Those are all on the road. Sure, Cubs can beat them, but there is a good chance they are under .500 in those 9 games. I would take 4-5.
  6. This didn’t age well. Also, even when it was mentioned it was a bad idea. This is the worst pitched 7 innings of shutout baseball all year. Cubs have gotten very lucky so far.
  7. Well actually the prognosis was 4-6. I went 6. So maybe a little before the break.
  8. I thought it was about 6 weeks. He isn’t coming back any time soon.
  9. I doubt it goes to no umpires on the field anyway.
  10. I think they are going to need more than 3. Rea is shaky to me. Fortunately I think they will score more.
  11. Not that I agree that they would also do away with all umpires, but who cares really. If they can get the calls right electronically do they have to have umpires? Keep in mind, I think umpires will always have a job. But if it does get to your scenerio is it that bad?
  12. Very tue. Miller is a perfect example of a typical middle relief pitcher. Cubs took a flyer on him last year and he was good. Doesn’t mean he will be good this year. Middle relief is just the hardest position to fill on a team.
  13. Honestly, signing him is a nothing burger. Who cares. They need pitchers in Iowa.
  14. I am actually starting to warm to the idea of Alcantara. But he has to be able to be acquired using no more than 2 top 10 prospects in the system and maybe another lower level guy. I know it is a risk, but it is also a big swing that could pay off.
  15. I really don’t know much about him. But if I am looking at the Orioles I would they rather go with Eflin. But, who knows🤷
  16. Blame the Royals loss on the manager. He has a short pen with their main set up guy in the IL. He has a pitcher with a shutout thru 6 on 82 pitches, of which almost 30 were in the second inning. It is the first game of a doubleheader so he should try to get an extra inning out of his starter, who is cruising. Instead he goes to the pen and they give up 2 runs. Followed by 2 in the 8th. That starter absolutely should have pitched into the 7th.
  17. Wicks’ year has been a bust. I am not ready to call him a bust, just yet.
  18. I agree. Fact is if they ate enough for the Cubs to afford the contract he would probably cost more assets than he is worth to the Cubs. Honestly, right now I am pretty sure DeGrom is not tradable without the Rangers eating salary.
  19. I think deGrom is the least likely guy the Cubs would go after. That contract is terrible. They can absolutely give up any chance of resigning Tucker, if deGrom’s salary is on the books next year.
  20. 😄 I forgot they had him.
  21. Eh, guess I read it wrong. Time will tell. But if Heaney,or someone of that nature, doesn’t cost anything of consequence, what you are suggesting does make sense. Maybe he comes in and through the rest of the year Counsell gives Brown, Horton and maybe even Boyd a break by skipping them a start or two. Just not sure who they take off the staff.
  22. I would think if they want to do it now they want to make a statement and get the guy they want. Not lose an asset, who might be of value as a 3rd piece for a bigger get later, to get a mediocre pitcher now.. Hate to jump the market for an average guy and then not get a better guy because now you end up settling for the average guy. I might feel this way, too, because I just don’t see them adding 2 starting pitchers via trades. But, who knows🤷.
  23. I was wondering the same thing. In fact, maybe him for two then Theilbar for 2 before turning to Rea. Tigers are especially tough on lefties so those guys might not be used much in Detroit. So maybe they can get 4 innings out of the two lefties.
  24. That the thing. If the Cubs are talking a move sooner rather than later I have to think it will be a bigger move, Gallen, Alcantara, Gore, Skenes. I know the last couple are way bigger than the first 2 and probably not very likely. But I don’t see the Cubs trading for someone like Heany, etc…now. It has to be bigger if it comes soon, IMO.
