  1. Ballesteros goes deep to center. He is on fire.
  2. Besides Little and Palencia they have Roberts & Keller who didn’t pitch yesterday. With an off day tomorrow, I think guys that pitched yesterday, but not the day before that, can be used. So maybe it won’t be as down as we think.
  3. He scores easily. TBH, I couldn’t believe he didn’t score. The ball hit off Theilbar’s glove and rolled softly to Nico. There wouldn’t have even been a play. Pretty sure Boog even said it on the broadcast. Honestly, with one out and a guy at 3rd with the infield in, it should always be the play. The guy on 3rd was not as fast as PCA, but he was fast enough to steal 3rd. So my guess is he was a base clogger.
  4. Good thing the Padres didn’t have the contact play in in the 10th. That guy on 3rd scores easily. For those who constantly complain when the Cubs get cut down at home, take note on what happened without using the contact play. With one out you have to have that play on, IMO. If you get thrown out 50% of the time it is still better odds than staying at 3rd and letting the next guy hit with 2 outs. Your odds of scoring there are way less than 50%.
  5. I agree. I am pretty sure everyone thought he was done last year too, when at the end up May he was hitting under .200. I think the entire month of May he is .111. He ended up having a pretty good year. While, as you said, Father Time catches up to everyone at some point, I am not sure we make that decision on 35 PA.
  6. I can see them tossing some numbers and a framework around now. But I agree with you, the harder sell will come around the all star break IMO. Let him see the ballpark and the fan base with beautiful weather and a crazy crowd standing in the second inning. I know in the end money is going to talk. But I also have to believe if he is given what he wants he would love to stay in Chicago after experiencing baseball as an cub.
  7. I agree with this. But, in his defense, he has also been called out on strikes several times on pitches out of the zone. He probably just needs a reset.
  8. Agreed. But maybe this is like the PCA move last year. Get him right at AAA and when he comes back the job is his. Can’t really see much of a chance at production at 3rd with guys like Brujan, Berti, Workman and even Turner playing there.
  9. Not exactly strike throwers, so hopefully this works out. Can’t be much worse.
  10. Don’t like that move. And he isn’t optioned for a little. Who is coming up? Brujan? Yuck!
  11. Any word on the pen? Are the Cubs not doing anything with Pearson and Morgan?
  12. 🤷 he does go on good runs from time to time.
  13. Keegan Thompson? 10K’s in 5.2 innings and a zero era.
  14. Got it. See, those are the things we don’t know, as fans. People are quick to criticize a manager for his pen use, and have no idea of who is actually available. That Machado AB in the 6th hurt. Again, had Taillon been able to get him out earlier he may have been able to finish the 6th.🤷 And again, the pen could have been used differently, provided those guys were available. Something we also do not know.
  15. I think they have to replace Morgan and Pearson. Palencia will probably be sent down. Like to see the second guy a lefty. They do have a possible opening in the 40 man when they put Steele in the 60 day IL. If Taillon could have been allowed to finish the 6th, it might have been an entirely different game. Maybe Keller pitchers the 7th and then some combo of Hodge, Merriweather and Pressly finish it off.
  16. Well the good news is I think we won’t have to see Pearson again for a while. He has to be sent down after today.
  17. I think we are on the same page. When I talked or agreed with moving the young kids up I meant in the proper time frame. Go with Rea for now, see if Assad, Wicks or Horton can throw 90 effective pitches and when/if they can bring them up. Do that before trading for a pitcher. I am not sure they need one at this time. Yes, at the deadline if they look to be a playoff team they can use a guy who would start one of the first 2 playoff games. But right now, hang tight. I was honestly impressed with Rea. I had no idea he threw that hard. Maybe Jed isn’t the idiot so many make him out to be. Maybe Boyd and Rea will be solid pick ups for the staff. So far, so good. I also have some hope for Brown.
  18. I probably should have a little more clear about what I was agreeing to. I agreed with NYcub that now is not the time to panic. When I suggested maybe Wicks comes up I am referring to when they know he can throw 90 pitches. I think he has a chance to be a solid starter. As for Horton, as he extends his outings, when would you think he should come up. Assuming he is throwing well. Why waste some of his bullets in the minors if he is throwing well? I suggested early to mid May, so call it a month. That can be 6-6 more starts in the minors. Shouldn’t he be up to 90 pitches by then? What would your time line for him be? And, of course, this is assuming he is pitching well. Bottom line is I don’t want them to do something right now. As you said, roll with Rea. Get some starts from Wicks, Horton and Assad in the minors and as they are ready, bring them up. Maybe Boyd continues to pitch well. Maybe Brown too. No reason to make a deal now. And when/if they do make a deal, I sure hope they already extended Tucker so they can use Cassie or Alcantara in a deal and not worry that one of them has to take over for Tucker next year.
  19. I agree. Maybe Wicks comes up. Maybe Horton early to mid May. Maybe Assad will be back soon. I wouldn’t do anything right now.
  20. Hope they don’t skip anyone. But I wouldn’t count on Knack.
  21. Pretty sure the Cubs will see Yamamoto AGAIN, against the Dodgers. He goes Thursday this week. Have to think he pitches on Wednesday. 🤷
  22. Oh, I know. And I also know 4 is a very high WAR. But I honestly think he is better than a 3WAR guy so rather than being more reasonable and saying 3.3WAR I want for it and suggested 4😬 I think he is a very good hitter. 3rd best hitter on the team, IMO.
  23. While talking about being on pace for anything after 18 games is kind of silly. But when you factor in PCA is doing it and actually only hitting .229 with OPS under .700 you realize just how valuable he really is. This isn’t some guy putting up crazy numbers so that when discussing his pace you know he won’t keep it up. No reason PCA cannot keep up what he is doing. And, in fact probably can be an ever better offensive player than what he has been up to now. As for Busch, I am fairly certain he will regress. But that said, I do believe in his bat and he is a good first baseman. Wouldn’t be shocked if his end of year WAR was around 4.
  24. I said it earlier. Rea really impressed me. Even the run he gave up the Dodgers got 2 soft contact hits before someone hit the ball hard and drove the run in. I did not know he threw that hard.
  25. Padres are 13-3 and cubs beat them twice.
