  1. Say, in spring baseball….. yes
  2. Today was my 4th spring game in Mesa. My first loss. I saw 2 wins, a tie and this loss.
  3. But even at $33M a year for Tucker, after ‘26 they can still be under every year. That isnt that big a deal. They don’t have any real salary on the books. Even being cheap SOB and running the team like a low budget team, he can be afforded. In 5 years $33M a year isn’t even going to be that big a deal. And he should still be worth it.
  4. This didn’t age well. Cubs announced Shaw is going to Japan.
  5. I am not sure Tucker would take that deal, but from the Cubs POV it is absolutely something they should do. Jed should be offering this right now if it could get him signed.
  6. Dejesus guess is looking better. He played in that time.
  7. Ivan Dejesus?
  8. Don’t necessarily agree with that either. Rea carries a 3.70 era thru August last year. Ballooned a bit after one terrible start. But he was decent all year until then. If he does that again this year there is no reason to take him out of the rotation. Sure, Brown, Wicks, maybe Assad and Horton will get starts but maybe just give a pitcher an extra day or to fill in for the inevitable injury. Assuming Rea won’t be in the rotation because his is bad, is just not something I want to do right now. Same with Boyd. I know he doesn’t look good on paper but he did get results. And sometimes guys just get results. Hopefully he does again.
  9. Well I sure hope you are wrong. If Rea and Boyd come out of the rotation that means they were either injured or pitched poorly. Not a good way to start the season. I do think Brown and maybe Wicks will get 10 starts and maybe even Horton 5-7 as well. But I am hoping that’s because they do some sort of 6 man rotation and, as will happen,, they fill in for short IL stints for a few of the guys.
  10. First name that came to mind for me as well. Corey Patterson.
  11. Assad won’t be there, but I would guess Tailon and Boyd would be. They mainly get 4 or 5 innings from starters. Those guys can also go 3 or 4. Plus, in Boyd’s case, he could be used as a second lefty in the pen. Besides that, they get 29 guys but only dress 26. So if they bring Tailon and Boyd those guys can pitch in the exhibition games and not dress the others. I think the rosters still have to be 13 pitchers and 13 bats.
  12. Henry Rodriguez
  13. This is true. Didn’t think of that. Has to suck for him not to be able to go to Japan. But time in Az is more important, long term.
  14. Is Horton going to get in games this spring? Or Is he just going pitch simulated games? I am going today. Love to see him pitch.
  15. I think Pearson is more of a sure thing than Merryweather. IMO, if someone like Keller makes the team, and there are no injured for him to have done so, that would be at Merryweather’s expense. I think Pearson and Morgan make the team and the last slot is the one currently being suggested as Merryweather. I also think Rey decided against Robertson because of the options they have already.
  16. I don’t think there is this pot of money either. But I do think, if they go into the TDL $30M under the first LT threshold they can trade for whoever they want. And I don’t think Tom would have an issue with that salary added. There will not be enough guys they need to trade for to come close to that $30M, so the team payroll should not hinder them in their goal of improving the team at the deadline. Tom already said he expects the final team payroll to be close to the first LT line. While I don’t think they will be particularly close to it, I could easily see them adding $10M to $13M at the TDL, if the right guy or 3 came available.
  17. Oh, I know that. I wasn’t suggesting that’s a good thing. But they cannot possibly suggest they can’t trade for anyone at the deadline, I agree with you that they do not need $25M at the deadline, and can’t spend it all.
  18. My guess is Merryweather or someone else(Keller) has looked good and Jed is reconsidering the need for Robertson. Which gives them $25M or more to spend at the TDL. I’m thinking that unless they trade for another staring pitcher this is pretty much the team. I don’t see a late signing of a pitcher who would then start the season behind. I think,,at this point, adding a bat is more likely than a FA arm. And I don’t hold much hope for that.
  19. How hard is Keller throwing? He looked good again today.
  20. He has looked good so far this spring.
  21. Seems kind of silly to wait until 1 week before the regular season to start to finally decide to add a FA pitcher, if that is what he does. That pitcher would be behind and probably not much use for at least the first 3 weeks of the season. Now, if they make a trade for someone that late in spring that is different. The player should be playing for someone now, so he should be ready to start the season.
  22. I honestly don’t understand it. Most have the option to walk if they don’t make the team. Which most likely none will. So how do they end up depth? 🤷
  23. 👍figured as much.
  24. Please show where Darvish ever suggested he hated Chicago. Pretty sure he spoke well of the city when talking with Suzuki and Imanaga. But if you do have something that backs your comment I would love to see it.
  25. Why isn’t Tucker playing yet.?
