  1. They might not get what we hope but I don’t think it will be because of money. They are far under the LT line. They can’t get to that amount. So I don’t see spending to be the issue. I think finding a guy available is a problem and I also am not sure they will partnwith what another team wants. Among the obvious reasons I would like to see them extend Tucker now is so they know who they can trade to help the team. If Tucker and PCA are assured of being here for the next 5 years they can trade Alcantara and Cassie. I don’t like ownership either. But in this case I don’t see them being cheap as the reason they don’t trade for someone at the deadline. For the record, who are these TOR arms and closers people expect the Cubs to go after? What teams are selling TOR or closer pitchers? &nbsp
  2. With the pitchers they have and trying to limit innings, a 6 man rotation makes a lot of sense.
  3. I agree. And they do need a guy. But it will probably be closer to the TDL. Besides that, who is really available anyway?
  4. Absolutely. Still bad with Greene pitching. But not ready to turn the game off. Could have been a lot worse.
  5. And here we go. 30-20 with basically good pitching from the rotation and now a bad one and we have to make a trade. Hasn’t been tough winning 60% of their games up until now.
  6. Either one really. They will have to limit innings for each of them.
  7. I agree. But which one? Also, when Imanaga comes back I am not sure they should send Horton down. Maybe Horton moves to the pen. Maybe they go to a 6 man rotation . Whoever doesn’t go between Flexen or Merryweather goes when Imanaga comes back?
  8. The next move is what interest me. Supposedly Hodge is going to be a minimum stay. What happens when he comes back?
  9. I also expect Greene to be closer to 90 pitches tonight than 70. He pitched 16 days ago. Pulled for an injury. Must not have been too bad since he is pretty close to a minimum stay. My guess is he has been throwing while on the IL. Unl SS they are bringing him back too soon and he gets hurt again today, I would think his pitch count would be pretty close to normal. Maybe a few less than what they usually allow.
  10. Tough pitching matchups. Even 1 win gives them a 3-3 road trip. Come home and take 5 of 6. Obviously I want 2 of 3. But even if the series doesn’t go too well, as long as they get 1 they can repay the Reds next weekend in Wrigley.
  11. For the record, statos is not a boomer. He just thinks players should play a certain way and if they waiver from what he considers how a player should act he will suggest that player disrespected the game. I, on the other hand, am a boomer, and I felt PCA ran out of the box. The lesson that should be learned here is not all boomers are the ones that yell “get of my lawn”. And not everyone who yells “get off my lawn” is a boomer.
  12. I think it might come down to what the other team wants. I would trade Wicks before Wiggins, but the team who has the player the Cubs wants might want Wiggins instead. Depending on who that player is the Cubs get back, if they wanted him enough, and had to deal Wiggins, I would do so.
  13. If this is the Shaw the Cubs are going to see the rest of they year, this is going to be a very fun summer. He looks like a different hitter. They have no holes in the line up. I know the pen takes all kinds of heat here anytime they blow a game, but I actually think Counsell is doing a pretty good job mixing and matching them up. Yes, they blow a few games. As Jason said, a good team will blow more games than a bad team simply because a bad team won’t be in the lead to blow a game. Everyone talks about spending money on the pen. Who spent more than the Dodgers? And their pen has blown as many as the Cubs. My biggest concern for the team is the rotation. They have a lot of guys that have never thrown 120-140 innings in a season. Even if they continue to perform as well as they have been(which I am not sure they will) I worry about them holding up for that many innings. Maybe when Imanaga comes back they go to a 6 man rotation.
  14. Good for Little. I hope he helps Iowa win the AAA championship. Until he can throw strikes I want nothing to do with him on the ML roster.
  15. I think Alcantara is wanted on reputation rather than actual production. His era is around 7 right now. His K rate is under league average, his WHIP is 1.60 and his WAR is -.9. Plus he will cost a solid prospect or 2. He may end up here again. But IMO he isn’t worth the risk. I do like Gote.
  16. I think it is unreasonable to EXPECT Tucker to catch that ball. I don’t think it is unreasonable to suggest it was a ball that, has he made a nice play on, he could have caught it. To me it was a 50/50 ball. Sure, PCA catches it. But IMO Tucker shouldn’t be blamed for not catching it. It was a tough play.
  17. I don’t think the slider was a bad choice. He also looked terrible swinging at one of them OUTSIDE the zone. The issue was not the pitch selection, it is where he threw the pitch. If he throws the slider 2 to 3 inches outside the zone he gets a swinging strike. He was not going to hit a good slider.
  18. They may be better than we thought. But they did not sweep the Mets. They took 2 of 3. Still good, but not a seeep. And they have had an easy schedule. That could have something to do with the solid SP and the offense being solid. I also think you are overstating Nootsbar. His OBP is the same as Happ, less than Kelly and Tucker and only about .08 ahead of Busch. So if he is an OBP machine I guess the Cubs have 4 of them in their everyday line up.
  19. While I agree with everything you said, I don’t think bunting there was the right move. He should have been swinging. That said, I don’t think PCA attempting to bunt for a hit 5 times this year is a lot. It depends when he bunts. If no one is on base, bunting for a hit is a good idea. Doesn’t matter how many outs there are. If he can bunt to a .400 average that’s better than his actual BA. I realize bunting only gets him to first base, while swinging can get him extra bases. But if he does get a hit in a bunt he can always steal second base. Plus by bunting some, that puts the corner infielders in a little. Hell , might even put the 2nd baseman and SS in a little. Which gives him a better chance to get a ground ball through. As I said, the particular AB being discussed in the article, I agree bunting was not the move. But bunting should be a part of his game and with only 5 attempts this year, I don’t think he is bunting too much.
  20. Also, just look to LA this weekend. Angels swept the Dodgers in Dodgers stadium.
  21. After I told that story I had to look back to see if my memory was correct. It was. Both teams were in the race and the Cubs had the Cardinals between 2 Sox series. I also had a Sox fan call me after the Cubs lost in 84 playoffs. This was a year after the Sox went to the playoffs and when they lost I didn’t say a word. From that point on I realized how miserable that fan base was. Which is why I enjoy beating the Sox much more than I should, and hate losing to them much more than I should.
  22. I have always said a good day for a Sox fan was a day the Cubs lose. I have literally been at a bar where thr Cubs game and Sox game were in the tv’s and Sox fans were watching the Cubs game hoping they lost rather than watching the Sox game hoping they won. And this was back around 04’ Sox were two back of the twins and had 3 against the Cubs and then 3 against the twins. I asked the Sox fan if they could go 4-2 in those games which 2 games would you want to lose. He said the Twins games because he would want to sweep the Cubs. And I really think that is a lot of that fanbase POV.
  23. It is probably because of their fan base. That is the reason these games mean as much to me as they do, and why I worry so much about them. Dbag Sox fan annoy the hell out of me.
  24. I don’t think so. Kelly is still a solid back up. Maybe he drops back in the line up and plays close to half the games. I think the original plan was 90+for Amaya and 70+ for Kelly. They can stick to that plan now.
