  1. If the Cubs do extend Tucker I can see either Seiya or Happ traded for a prospect. Being up Ballesteros to DH and either Happ or Seiya plays left. If they extend Tucker it give them more leeway in trading outfield prospects. Maybe they can get a good starting pitcher at the deadline if Alcantara and Cassie are both in the table.
  2. It’s baseball. Baseball is a stupid game. Even bad teams get hot for a week or two. Cardinals might not be a bad team, but they are not good either. They will cool off. They also have beaten bad teams in 6 of those 9 games. Still have to give them credit for that. Going 6-0 against bad teams when you are only an average team deserves some credit. But as all of us have seen throughout the years, teams go on streaks. They are in one. Nothing more to it. The schedule gets harder for them now. I expect the Cubs to be up by 4 games on them by the time we see them.
  3. I don’t think letting a Rea go to 100-105 pitches last night was a dangerous decision for his future health. Cubs have an off day this week so Rea will get 5 days off before his next start. In that one maybe Counsell limits him to 90 pitches or so. I think that had 2 guys got on jn that inning he would have pulled Rea. The DP allowed him to face one more batter. A guy hitting .170. I understand the reasoning for taking him out before that homer. But I think it is one of many decisions a manager makes that when it doesn’t work out well someone will surely mention how the manager made a mistake. Had he gotten then.170 hitter out no one would have said a word. And had Palencia came in and gave up the homer fans would have been critical if Counsell for bringing him in instead of just letting Rea finish the inning.
  4. That isn’t happening. Not enough AB for him once Happ comes back. Maybe Long would be a guy to bring up if the Cubs dfa Turner. But I think that won’t happen this soon.
  5. WOW. I imagine he plays everyday until Happ gets back.
  6. I don’t see PCA putting those numbers up year after year. I would even say I don’t think he will ever have a year like Gomez had that year. I think a good offensive year for him would be more like .260/.310/.480. Still very good. 25-30 homers and 50 SB. Which, with his defense would make him an amazing ballplayer. I am just not convinced he will hit to that high an average or for that much slug for an entire season.
  7. I know. But the pen is not good right now. And he used Brown for over 100 the last time he went out, so it isn’t like he won’t let someone go over 100 pitches. Has he gotten that guy out no one would have said a word. Or has Palencia came in and gave up the homer people would have been critical that he took Rea out. It is easy to criticize a decision when something goes wrong.
  8. They will. They had a win tonight against a good team, but their schedule is brutal for about a month.
  9. With the Cubs pen scuffling I don’t blame Counsell trying to get the 7th out of Rea. Just because it didn’t work out great doesn’t mean he made a bad decision. Had he came in with Palencia and he gave up 2 runs others would be complaining that he shouldn’t have taken Rea out with only 85 pitches thrown.
  10. If he is cheap I guess so. But I would like to see them aim higher than him.
  11. ERA is not really the best, or at least the only, way to measure a pen. And you did not count the Nationals and the Rockies in the upcoming games. Their pens suck too. Really in the next 21 games the only one better than the Cubs, is the Reds. Sox might not be worse, but it is a real stretch to call them better. And the Rockies and Nationals are worse.
  12. Is the Sox bullpen better than the Cubs? I honestly don’t know that. Sox seem to lose a lot of late games.
  13. Agreed. Cubs came out of a very difficult early schedule in good shape. Cardinals are only 1 game back but from now until June 16 or so, the next 31 games the only team they play who would be considered bad is the Orioles. And they might turn it around by then. By the time the Xubs face the Cardinals in late June their lead should be at least 4 or 5 games. I’m not sure I cam say I expect no worse than 12-6 the next 18. horsefeathers happens in baseball. But I agree they should start distancing themselves from .500 and the division. ThrbCardinals haven’t played one game against the NL West yet. The schedule not going to be their friend starting tomorrow.
  14. How many runs did he give up. He came in yesterday and waked a guy to then get two guys to hit ground balls and get the save. The time before that he came I. With the Manfred runner in second and the inning ended with that runner on second. I get it, he isn’t lock down sure thing no worry reliever. Unfortunately they don’t really have one. He has had 2 bad games. The one in the 18th of April and now this one. A few other times when he did give up runs they were in bloop hits not over 75mph. No, he isn’t perfect, but to suggest he has been awful for 2 weeks is not accurate. There is so much to complain about with the one, that is an issue. Until today Hosge wasn’t an issue, at least not in the last 2 weeks.
  15. This might be true, sadly. Hodge was until today.
  16. Since April 18th, when he blew up he has pitched 7.1 innings with one run allowed. How is that awful for 2 weeks?
  17. Calling his numbers, before this year, mediocre is being kind. He was bad. He is the Mets version of Colin Rea.
  18. Hodge and yes🤞 Honestly, even when Imanaga comes back I wouldn’t mind some sort of a 6 man rotation. They have Boyd, Horton, and Brown they probably shouldn’t pitch more than 120 innings. Rea probably is a guy they should count on every 5th day. Imanaga is someone who does better with an extra day of rest. Taillon is the only pitcher who has pitched high innings on a regular basis. Maybe it doesn’t have to be a strict 6 man rotation, but maybe Counsell mixes guys in and gives guys occasional rests during the year.
  19. Now that is funny! That is worth calling out the announcers for. Nice job!
  20. He is here filling for Thielbar due to his wife having a baby. So not sure it will be him. I am not sure they can send Cosgrove down until Theilbar comes back.🤷 Otherwise, yes, that is exactly what they will do. Might be Holloway today. Then Cosgrove once Theilbar comes back. Bottom line is they did not stress the main pieces of the pen last night, which was something chibear was rightfully concerned about due to a poor start from Jamo. All pen arms should be ready the next 2 games.
  21. If you don’t want him to use quality pen arms for fear of losing them for later in the series he has to use guys he doesn’t have in his circle of trust.
  22. You mean the last 6 times he pitched? No one is suggesting he is a TOR starter. He is a MOR starter. Suggesting he is not good enough to be a starting pitcher is easy to defend against because it is a very stupid comment.
