  1. And they have Brasier coming back. I don’t think the pen is as bad as many think it is. I like Keller, Hodge, Pressly and Merryweather. I am encouraged by what I have seen from Palencia and even Roberts. If Brasier comes back and performs like last year that is several good pen arms. Jury out on Thielbar. But they do need at least one lefty.
  2. Not really. The error he got was stupid. He made a perfect one hop throw to the plate that Kelly couldn’t catch. Because it deflected away from Kelly the batter took an extra base. So they had to give Happ an error. He made a very nice throw, however.
  3. Odd time to criticize Wicks. I mean the first run in the 10th shouldn’t have even happened. They should have won 2-1.
  4. First name that came to me was Schiraldi.
  5. Which is why I am pushing back on chibears assessment that Brown is going to be a late innings pen guy. I believe he is a starting pitcher, and can be a good one.
  6. Last 2 years the cubs have been on the wrong side of almost every tie breaker for the WC. I don’t expect them to be fighting for the WC this year, but if they are it is nice to have the tie breaker on the Dbacks. (I expect them to win the division with 93+ wins, but good to have an edge if it does matter.)
  7. I know you don’t mean now. But I still think the plan is him as a starter. As you said, he keeps velocity thru 100 pitches, so that is a plus. Sure, a third pitch would be great. He has some time to learn one, even if used sparingly. And besides that, Steele has been a pretty successful starter on only 2 pitches. And he doesn’t e en throw high 90’s. His control has to be better whether he starts or is a late inning guy.
  8. 100 pitches for a guy they are trying to be careful with. Of course he was removed.
  9. I don’t agree with this. At least not until the Cubs give him a lot more opportunities to start. He is much more valuable as a #2 or #3 starter than a late inning guy. He may very well end up a late inning guy, but I don’t think that is the future the Cubs have mapped out for him.
  10. I think we are going to see Wicks try to improve on his appearance yesterday. They will need multiple innings from someone.
  11. I know a lot of negative comments were made about the pen, and rightfully so. But I am going to try focusing on the positive that came from pitching yesterday. First, Rea looked very good. And there is some data to suggest he may have changed up some and because of that, there is some hope this could be real. Next, Keller looked good again and was throwing hard. Maybe he enters the circle of trust🤷. Merryweather looked good again. And most of all, Pressly is seemingly rounding into shape. He has had a few solid innings in a row. And, on top of that, I still like Hodge. If Workman fields a ball he should have had he gets out of the inning allowing a homer to Suarez. He should be fine. As for Wicks and Roberts, both most likely will be back in AAA when Miller and Brasier return. I still like Wicks, but IMO he is a staring pitcher.
  12. Every horsefeathers year with this Jagoff Dbacks team. We lose the dumbest ways. Sure glad Workman has a good glove. 👍 Send his ass back to Detroit too.
  13. Huge homer for Happ. However, not over yet. Dbacks have had some big 8th innings. I should know. I was at the one the Cubs blew in Arizona.
  14. Sure does. Hope it is not the case. Can’t believe it is 2-1.
  15. If it works 1/3 of the time that is better odds than keeping him at 3rd for the next guy to come up with 2 outs.
  16. Yes, they have to do the contactplay every time there is a guy in 3rd and one out. It is the play to use. Has they not run PCA flies out for the 3rd out anyway. I don’t understand why people have such a hard time with that play.
  17. Brujan, Workman, Berti, Turner, or Shaw🤮 Really doesn’t matter.
  18. Pretty sure the park is going to help them too. But, yes, they have some bats.
  19. Prior to this year Morgan has had FIP era under 4 each of his last 3 seasons. He has done that while appearing in over 130 games. I would be thrilled if Little can do that. Sure, Morgan can be hitting his spots and still get crushed every once in a while, but his career stats really don’t back that statement. This year he has been bad. But he might be injured. 🤷 I would take a healthy Morgan over a guy who can’t throw strikes, no matter how good that guys stuff is. maybe if Little can start finding the zone he can be special. But right now he sucks and has yet to prove he is someone any team can count on.
