  1. Except why not Robertson? I have to think he comes before the floor of Poche. Maybe even a few others before Poche.
  2. I think there is Kahnle and Farmer if the Cubs aren’t specifically looking for a closer.
  3. All that said, I would take him. My first choice would be Yates. Probably Robertson followed by Estevez. I think Finnegan and Jansen would be after that. Just my preference.
  4. It is special, isn’t it?
  5. I forgot about Estevez. But I think Finnegan is available too. And he did close, unlike Farmer, who did not. Maybe those are the top 6?
  6. So do the Cubs pivot to Yates? He would probably cost around $14M-$15M. Maybe a second year? But he would be a good back end guy. Or is it Finnegan, Jansen or Robertson? Has to be one of them, right???? Hope it is Yates.
  7. Ok, cool. I did not want to be misunderstood. I am not defending what TR does.
  8. I “think Bertz” explained how $220M for roster payroll and $241M payroll could mean the same thing.
  9. Why are you quoting me and responding to me? What did I say that suggest I am at all happy with what Ricketts is doing? I absolutely agree he should spend more. But he may not be lying if he says they will spend to $241M. The big lie to me is spending to break even.
  10. I agree it should be more. But baseball is a long season. The Dodgers will have the luxury of limiting innings for their pitchers to all be available for playoffs. Injuries also happen. What is the current betting number for wins?
  11. But it is baseball. So my guess is they win around 100-105 games.
  12. Count me as a fan pushing for a hard salary cap. Maximum and minimum.
  13. He did say at seasons end. So I am not sure he is lying about that. Most trade deadlines the Cubs are strapped because they can go after a higher priced guy because they have no room in their payroll. If they are $20M short of the LT line there is no player at the deadline they can’t go after. They would only be picking up 1/3 of his salary. So if rhe Jays are out of it they can go after Vlad. There are several other players making $20M or so that may come available at the deadline. They can go after them. The problem is, will the Cubs buy at the deadline? Will this team be good enough compete so they can buy? That is the unnecessary game he is playing. I don’t think he is lying, if all works out they can get to $241M. But I think what he is doing does suck. It shouldn’t be this way.
  14. Baseball absolutely has to even be playing field or they are going to lose fans. This is not good for baseball.
  15. Yep, but that really sucks. The number isn’t even something out of line. If the Cubs were serious about him they had to know that would be the number. Had LA blown it out of the water like 4/$88 or something like that I could understand it. But Cubs had to be in at that. Of course if the choice is play for a team who can win 110 games this year or a team in the 80’s I guess guys will choose the better team most times.
  16. So what is the Cubs current number allocated to the active roster, right now? Do they still have $35M to spend where Nightengale and TR would be both correct?
  17. He would be a great get. This would be a very un Cub like off season where they get two of the biggest fish in the off season pond. Typically it is low end guys (and they did do that too), and the mid level guys. They didn’t go mid level at all here. Maybe because mid level got more than they thought, (Severino, Buehler, Minter, Eovaldi). Still skeptical they can get this one done. But a little hopeful anyway.
  18. I agree with almost everything you said, but I don’t think they trade him at the deadline. In spite of the half assed effort to make this team a 90+ win team this off season, I think they will be in contention at that time. If they do get a closer I think they did enough to take this team from 83 wins to 87-88 wins. That will compete. I don’t like what they did. They should do much more. They had a chance to dominate the central, at least, and be a low 90s win team, but chose to look for bargains instead of good players, after they traded for Tucker. And it is all on orders from ownership to keep payroll down. The Cubs wasted an opportunity for a very good season and are settling for an ok one.
  19. All of it sucks. And it shouldn’t be like this. But if it is going to be $220M I hope he means to start the 2025 season. So they have over $20M more to spend. And again that number even with his stupid LT line, should be more like $235M. Seems odd to have Tom then say they will finish around $241. Actually calling it what it is….. it is a lie. Even if they go to $220M now how do they add $21M at the deadline when they only have to pay 1/2 to 1/3 of a salary. Yes, TR SUCKSSSSSSS
  20. Does the revenues include the tv deal? It cannot possible include that. The dodgers are well ahead of everyone if tv revenue is considered. I absolutely agree the Cubs should spend a lot more. Tired of Ricketts carrying poor. But I don’t think the Dodgers number is close to correct. Even if the Cubs can’t spend like them or the NY teams they should be 4th every year and should not be worried about the LT line. Tired of TR horsefeathers.
  21. Honestly he shouldn’t do interviews. There is nothing he can say to satisfy fans. I do understand not spending like the Mets, Yankees or Dodgers. Especially the Dodgers. However I don’t understand why the LT line has to be the ceiling, and they aren’t even close to that. I would be shocked if they came within $5M of the line.
  22. Is Cassie that bad an outfielder? I thought he was actually decent in right with a good arm. I know he can’t play center and Alcantara is a solid centerfielder. But I didn’t think he was viewed as someone who can’t play a corner outfield spot.
  23. Speaking of the group picture. Who is the guy next to Wicks, with the glasses? I couldn’t name half the guys in the photo I saw with PCA right in front.
