  1. Didn’t see that. If that is the case then the Cubs aren’t being honest about what the first examination showed. Not sure how they can say it is the same as last year and they are just being over cautious about it and then also suggest surgery is a certainty. Have to admit, it makes more sense that Steele would want a second opinion had the first one resulted in the conclusion surgery was necessary. It just didn’t seem like that was what the Cubs were saying. 🤷 Guess we have to wait in the second opinion, but it does not sound good, at all.
  2. I think PCA will be tough to extend. Unlike some guys who sign extensions, PCA comes from a little money. He isn’t as worried about securing his “life changing” money. I do not think offering him $75M and maybe taking 2 free agent years away from him is trolling him. And since we don’t know exactly what the actual offer was I don’t know the Cubs can be accused to trying to troll him or sign him undervalue. I just think PCA is a perfect guy to test free agency.
  3. I know Boyd did go out in the 6th and did give up a hard contact 3 run homer to Edman. But is this true after 5? I was watching and he looked very good after 5 and only threw 67 pitches. Did anyone really expect Boyd not to pitch the 6th? I do not research batted ball data. So I ask those who do that, were the Dodgers squaring him up thru 5? For that matter, aside from the Edman homer, was he allowing hard contact? I thought be pitched great and had that one ball clobbered. Regardless of the results that did happen, people would have been screaming had Boyd not come out in the 6th, IMO. 66 pitches of shutout ball after 5 and he is pulled? That isn’t happening.
  4. My guess is he gets sent down for Wicks. Not because he deserves to be sent down. Because he pitched yesterday and might not be available for a few days. Of course, maybe the Cubs have seen enough to send Pearson down as well and roll with Ethan.
  5. My thought was maybe he has to do something different in getting himself ready. Like you said, his pre start / off day routine.
  6. I get the panic. But in this case the mri must have come back without showing additional damage. That is actually good. Steele wanting a second opinion suggest he is frustrated because this keeps happening. So he wants to make sure it isn’t serious. Has it come back bad and he wanted a second opinion I would be more concerned. Maybe another opinion or Wray does show something more. It is possible. But right now it is still just what he had last year.
  7. I agree with this. They need to get it done before free agency.
  8. If he misses substantial time, it has no chance of being a blessing. Period! The price of a top pitcher goes up due to need. And the Cubs don’t appear to even want to pay whatever was originally suggested.
  9. Go where he gets paid is the obvious easy answer. But there are a lot of other variables, even in pay. I mean is 11/$440 with no multiple opt outs and no deferred money better than 11/$470M but $200M of it deferred? What about if of the $440M, $300M of it is considered a signing bonus. Those just get taxed in thr state the player lives in, not where he plays. Tucker lives in Florida. No state taxes. So the $440 might be a better deal. As I said, easy to suggest he goes to the money, but the highest dollar value might not really give him the most money. And when the difference is splitting hairs as to what the actual best offer is, maybe he then takes the deal based on the team he wants to play for. Which is why I understand Jed wanting Tucker to play a bit for the Cubs before approaching him with an extension.
  10. And wasn’t Rodriguez the guy who first reported about Vlad? He was doubted and then 2 days later Vlad signed? Cubs very well could have opened up conversations with him, loosely. I dot get the comment about home town discount, but I do understand Jed wanting Gucker to play here a while and see what Wrigley and the fans are all about. I was at the Saturday game against the Padres. Tucker came up in the second inning, I believe with the bases loaded and the crowd was standing. That has to be special to some players. Doesn’t mean they take less. Obviously money is the driver. But it could make the Cubs the team, if all else is close to equal, he wants to play for.
  11. I do think the Cubs will make an honest attempt to sign Tucker. As someone pointed out, they seldom deal prospects. Giving up what they did, IMO, means there is a serious offer coming for Tucker. That said, they still might not get him. But I do expect them to offer what it takes for a super star. Which means a 10+ year deal. Probably around $37M to $42M annually. I think it it is at $42 annual there will be deferrals. I think something like 12/$420 to $450 is an earnest attempt to sign him. And I think they will be around that number.
  12. But you did say “they should consider putting him on the 60 day IL and just shut him down”. Those were your words. My only comment is it is a bit early for that.
  13. But that is just it. They have done anything with Steele yet and you want out him in the 60 day IL! That is just an overreaction at this time. Sure you can point to Alzolay as an example. But there are numerous pitchers, including Steele, who have had elbow tightness and been out 15 to 20 days. Maybe you end up right, I certainly hope not. But to suggest it now is clearly a panic statement. In Steele’s interview he sounded frustrated the Cubs even put him in the 1( day IL. He expected to work through the soreness and not miss a start. Until we hear anything that might suggest the injury is bad, overreacting is not the way to go. Sure, I am concerned. But for now the 15 day IL is the right call.
  14. Oh, I know you weren’t. And I agree until we know it is just some inflammation and he is ok, of course we should have some concern. The Cubs have had a history of not being totally honest regarding injuries.
  15. Even if it is something to worry about, you don’t automatically put him on the 60 day IL, as Stratos suggested. Worrying it “could be” something serious isn’t ridiculous. Overreacting and suggesting he should go in the 60 day Il is, at this time.
  16. Assuming you are not a doctor, that is the only thing in your post that is correct. Why not wait and see what is up with his inflammation? His velocity down is not unusual to start a season and definitely not unusual in ridiculously cold conditions. Why does everything have to be doom and gloom? You don’t put him on a 60 day IL without even finding out what the problem is. He sounded like it was very precautionary by the Cubs and appeared a little annoyed they put him on the Il, at all. A 60 day IL at this time makes zero sense. If they do an MRI and find something there will be time to change his IL status. Oh, actually something else I agree with you on is how ridiculous playing a night game in Wrigley in early April is. Yes, it is very stupid.
  17. True. But I think they like getting Imanaga an extra day from time to time, so I would expect they still go with a 5 man staff. Maybe if the IL stint is only 20 days or so, Rea gets 3 starts. Or maybe Horton or Wicks comes up to take the start. I know they brought up Roberts now, but the day they need a starter they can bring one up.
  18. Why weren’t the Cubs running when Kelly was up? I don’t understand this team.
  19. Actually I agree with this. It is closer to a 50/50 decision then some think. Basically that is why I would like to see them work something minor out with Detroit to keep Workman. Whether it is Brujan now or someone else later, I don’t expect Workman to be in the major league roster all year. I am fine with him in the system but don’t feel he would have the job just because they can’t move him around. Figure it out now, go with Brujan on the roster and get Workman playing time in AAA.
  20. I don’t think it takes another month. Why wouldn’t the Cubs just release Brujan if they liked Worlman more than him? Even if they wanted to see what Workman could do so they gave him 3 weeks while putting Brujan on the IL, Workman has been bad. I think when Brujan is ready the Cubs will have to decide if they can work out some minor arrangement with the Tigers and keep Workman, or send him back. Fact is, it is very hard for a team competing to stash a rule 5 guy all season. If it isn’t now it will be another time. So if they think right now Brujan helps them more I would think when he is ready they will make the move. And if they don’t think he helps them more now, they should have just let Brujan go. Honestly, I am ok with whatever they do. I think Workman got was overhyped this spring. Sure, he might be a decent utility guy to have in the system as a guy who is up and down. But he isn’t anything special. And as a rule 5 guy they can’t move him up and down. My best case scenerio is a deal with the Tigers. Maybe only a cash deal or a ptbnl deal where the Cubs can keep workman. Send him down and put Brujan on the team as the 26th man.
  21. If the Cubs are in contention at the deadline they are not trading Tucker. And I would guess they will be contending.
  22. I don’t think it needs to be $500M. He is older than Vlad, so he shouldn’t get the years Vlad got. Judge got $40M a year for 9 years. I can see something like that annual but maybe 12 years. And, honestly, that is a lot. Vlad averaged $36M a year. Tucker should get that. In the end if he goes to free agency it might end up $500M, but I don’t think the Cubs are dead in the water offering 10-12 years with an annual between $36M and $40M What I really like about what Jed did here is he put it now all on Ricketts. By trading for Tucker he gave Tom an elite talent. Now if Tom doesn’t sign him we all know who is to blame for the Cubs failures. It isn’t Jed, it is Ricketts. We won’t have to question if Jed doesn’t have the stomach for long term deals or if he is just following Ricketts orders. It will be clear it is Ricketts. I love that Hoyer shifted the blame to ownership by making this deal.
  23. I think when Brujan is ready the Cubs will offer spring training hero, Workman, back to the Tigers and Brujan will take his spot.
  24. I like Kelly with Brown. Brown is a little wild so having a better pitch framer when he pitches works for me.
  25. Because baseball is stupid, you might be right. 🤷
