  1. Couldn’t wait to post this, could you. I mean after Taillon’s first stat he strung together 6 starts where they were either a QS or he gave up less than 3 runs but maybe only went 5.1. So obviously you were silent then. He is hardly a bum. He is just a MOR starter who didn’t have it today. He gave up 4 solo homers today. Yes, that isn’t good. But those should have been the only earned runs he was charged with.
  2. Yep, and probably a guy who will not be in the team tomorrow. That pitcher will probably go 2, anyway. That would get them to 6 and then the last 2 filled by pen arms per usual. I don’t see the pen being tired the rest of the series as an issue. At least not because of this game.
  3. I’m not too worried about pen use. Right now they have an extra guy in the pen. If Taillion gets rocked early they can always use the guy they are going to send out tomorrow when they activate Horton. And Taillon still may very well go 6. It might become an issue🤷. But I think your panic is way to early.
  4. Agreed. Cubs aren’t going to make this big a splash move for a guy who really isn’t that good a third baseman already and will only get worse as years go on. And him not being willing to move is not a good sign of how he might react later in his contract. When you add in his salary would probably take them out of any Tucker extension talk I don’t see it. Red Sox are not going to eat enough of his contract to make him and Tucker affordable. Besides that, I don’t think they have to make a big move at 3rd. As you said, I think pitching will be the bigger focus.
  5. I agree they won’t do it. My point is they can. They can start 3 pitchers on normal rest and don’t NEED to start him until Tuesday. To me, the fact they aren’t doing this tells me they believe he will be fine starting in NY. Which I happen to agree with.
  6. Back to Horton, if the Cubs really don’t want him starting against the Mets they could pitch Tallion, Boyd and Rea all on usual rest and let Horton pitch next week against the Marlins. They don’t have to go either Horton or a pen day. That is why I think they have a lot of confidence in Horton. If they wanted to ease him in they could just wait. But it looks like they are not doing that.
  7. Exactly. I had hoped it would be a short stint at Iowa, but it doesn’t look that way. I haven’t lost hope in him, but they aren’t going to bring him back until he is hitting with authority. It just takes time. It isn’t that unusual that a kid has to be sent back down. Much like PCA of last year, I think when they bring him back he will be ready to play everyday and contribute.
  8. Agreed. They are winning with pitching. They have a better offense than either the Marlins or Nationals, but if it is his spot to pitch and it happens to me against the Mets, I would let him pitch.
  9. On top of that, prior to Pressly’s meltdown the pen had the 5th lowest ERA in all of baseball since April 21st. Yes, it has had bad moments and it does need a little work. But it doesn’t suck. Granted, that is limited innings, but it is the most recent innings and innings after Counsell moved some pieces out and others in. It is very easy for people to come and post the pen (or in the case of last night, one pen arm) sucks when they blowup and then remain silent while it is doing great work.
  10. Normally I am not one to panic quickly or overreact to situations. I tend to believe guys play to the back of their baseball card. I think many fans here overreact daily. But, that said, I think Pressly is on borrowed time. And I wouldn’t use him in a high leverage situation. Maybe he is a guy that should be DFA. Might not be when Horton is brought up (Hopefully this weekend) but maybe when Braiser is ready to come back. None of the optionable pen arms deserve to be sent back. So very possible Pressly could be released.
  11. Exactly. And for me, it takes a lot to notice the announcer. They are all fine but no one I tune in just to listen to. I tune in to watch a game. They are a necessary part of the telecast. Nothing more.
  12. WOW, I am honestly shocked at people having so much to say and so many opinions of announcers I hardly notice them. At least not enough to care who is announcing. This topic comes up every year and every year I am amazed by it.
  13. They need to be very careful with the hamstring. Don’t want him favoring it and hurting something else. I agree if they think he is fine after 3 weeks they should give him another week.!just be very careful with it. They should be ok without him for a month.
  14. A lot of comments regarding Tucker being willing to talk during the season. Might be a nothing burger, but when it is brought up often and my different people, that is encouraging. Hopefully they can get both Tucker and PCA signed. That would definitely chance the opinion of the ownership of this team.
  15. I am also confused about what some are calling good news. It is standard to put a pitcher in the 15 day IL when he gets hurt. Doesn’t mean he is back in 15 days. Just means he isn’t in the 60 day, which would have been very bad news. This is just standard procedure. If we are lucky he will be back the first week in June. I don’t expect earlier.
  16. I think Horton has to come up, right? Maybe today they will bring up a pen arm, since Horton doesn’t really have to be used until after the Mets series. With an off day Thursday they can go without a 5th starter until the following week. But when the do have to use a starter aside from the 4 they have in the rotation now, it better be Horton. 🤞
  17. I don’t wa t to see Flexin either. But it seems they might go that way. I agree it should be Horton.
  18. Cardinals also had a great year. Won over 100 games. I think the long losing streak put pressure on the Cubs to bring back Sutcliffe too soon. But I don’t think it would have mattered. The Cardinals were the better team that year. I think the Cubs can survive Imanaga missing 6-7 starts. I think they are clear favorites in the division and even without Imanaga for 4-6 weeks they should be fine. Especially considering the schedule they will finally be getting into. This is not the 85 team and the Reds are not the 85 Cardinals. I wouldn’t panic and overpay for a starting pitcher. Either go with Flexin, or a much better option, bring up Horton.
  19. I remember that year. Sutcliffe went down as did Ruthven and Sanderson, I think. All within a few days. They went from 34-19 to 34-32 because of a 13 game losing streak. I might not have this exact. But I think I am pretty close. The biggest problem with the Sutcliffe injuries came back too fast. I think it was only 3 weeks. So when he came back he ended up hurting his arm because he was pitching differently to favor his hamstring.
  20. Cubs didn’t score a run. Kind of hard to suggest the bullpen blew the game. Merryweather was bad today, but he also came into a tough spot. I think not scoring had a much greater impact on them losing.
  21. With the 3rd lowest batting average against for a career, he owns everyone.
