I agree with all of this. I think they will be aggressive. They should be aggressive. I just don’t feel any TOR starters will be available. But like you said, a long way to the TDL and surprised could happen.

I agree they should shop in the TOR aisle. I said I don’t think they will, but that’s because I don’t see any to be available. They cannot buy someone if he isn’t for sale. I realize things can happen between now and the deadline. So maybe someone opens up. Then, by all means, go all in for someone. Please give me a few examples of who you think might be available. I mentioned Peralta if the Brewers fall out of the race. I guess more teams can fall out and more pitchers become available. I am just not seeing it now. I am fine with a rental or a guy with control left. I agree they have the resources and should be all in on all options. Right now it is too early to figure out who that might be.

Ok. I was probably looking at him based on several years past. He was once a decent pitcher. I just don’t think they will be shipping in the TOR aisle. For one reason, I doubt any will be available. I think they will end up with an innings eating MOR starter. (Keller type) But even with just throwing out Keller, I haven’t looked nearly as deep as you and others into his underlying numbers. I am just suggesting him as the type of guy I expect. MOR, innings eating pitcher who will give them a 3.75 to 4.25 era and keep them in games.

I guess that is one way if looking at it. I saw Busch check his swing and the ball go through. I did not see that he guided the ball that way. But either way, after a game of a lot of hard contact the Cubs won on 2 hits with EV very low. Good win. I said before the game started that Marquez could be a tough match up. Maybe he is a guy they go after at the deadline?

EV on that hit was 58 mph. Baseball is stupid.

I said that before the game started. He was good in 2 of his last 4 and has been a very good pitcher in the past.

Yep, and it made perfect sense. Only around 80 pitches. Also a pen down a few guys. It just didn’t work.

Thank you. Guess I need better glasses or learn to read better. I know Bertz is a quality poster and knows what he is talking about. That is why I asked who that guy might be. “Settle” makes a lot more sense. 😬 Yes, I agree with his options.

Who is the rental we would be talking about with Seattle? And why would Seattle trade a useful starting pitcher? I also agree it would be awesome to get a front end starter now. I just don’t see the reason for a team to be dealing one. As you said, maybe Gore. But that is it and it probably isn’t very likely. I actually hope the Brewers fall out and make Peralta available. He has a team option next year. So he is someone they might consider dealing instead of losing him after next year.

It is a bit of a problem today. I imagine Flexen is first out. Hopefully Horton can go 6. Maybe Flexen, Brasier and Keller for the last 3? I think Brasier will be available.

Of Alcantara is good that is fine. But he has been brutal this year. Not sure I want to lose assets on another question mark.

Exactly. And if you take the 8 runs Pressley gave up without getting an out, out of the equation the pen would probably be top 4 in the NL. They have not been nearly as bad as many suggest they have been.

I absolutely like the Cubs chances tonight. I am just saying Marquez might not be terrible.

With him it depends on costs. He isn’t worth giving up several solid prospects. And I think the Marlins will want a lot for him. I don’t necessarily agree that the Brewers or Cardinals won’t trade with the Cubs. If the Cubs give them the best deal they will trade with them. That said. I don’t expect a TOR starter added. I think it will be someone more in the MOR, BOR trade. Keller, Heaney, N. Martinez, Marquez, etc….Maybe if the Orioles stay down Eflin is an option.

Marquez has been good in 2 of his last 3 starts. So don’t freak out if rhebCubs struggle to score. They may not, but if they do, remember he has pitched well against good teams this year.

For starters, I am not suggesting they need to get a middle relief pitcher. If they can trade for a closer that is another story. Sure, Robertson was very good last year. But in ‘23 with Miami his era was 5 in 22 appearances. He is also 40 years old. There is just no guarantee he will be what he was last year. If there was, I completely agree with you that it is a no brainer for someone to sign him. Since no one is, maybe he either wants too much money or him being successful isn’t a no brainer. 🤷

I don’t think it is that simple. If he is such a no brainer why didn’t the Phillies sign him when Alvarado was suspended? Short of a knock down closer I don’t see the need for the Cubs to add a pen arm.

He did walk a guy. And that does suck. The hit he gave up was a 10 hop slow hit ball through the hole beteeen 3rd and SS. He was not exactly hit hard. He was replaced because Counsell wanted lefty against lefty.

They are way below the LT at the moment. There isn’t any player they should have to worry about taking them over the LT line. As I said, I doubt they get anyone until near the trade deadline. At that point they would owe about 1/3 of his salary. Even someone making $25M would only cost them $8M+. The alt line shouldn’t be an issue.
