  1. To add to your scenarios, if it is Sale or another TOR starter and nothing else, or a guy to slot under Taillon and another middle relief pitcher, I go with Sale and roll with the pen they have. I would also take the ace starter over your option #2.
  2. Thats better gflore. 👍 You have come a long way in a short time. Glad to see you thinking more like a Cubs fan than a Sox fan😅 I mean really the best outcome is cardinals winning both and the cubs winning both. That would mean in the 4 game series each team played the Cubs would gain a game on both the Cardinals and Brewers. But…….baby steps!
  3. They played the Rockies with terrible weather and the wind gusting at 20-30 mph blowing in. Runs were not going to be scored in those games. Funny thing is if the wind was blowing out at 20mph for most of the Cubs home games we would be worrying about the pitching and saying how great the offense is. People need to step back and take a deep breath and relax. Baseball is a long season. Teams go through stretches all the time. They probably are not the top offense in baseball. But they are far from a problem.
  4. But the offense isn’t something to worry about. They may not be the top offense in baseball, but they are top 5. Even if they are not performing at the level that is comfortable to people right now you do have to realize the competition as well as the fact that during every baseball season every team slumps from time to time. That is what this is. A combination of quality pitching, weather conditions and possibly guys slumping which leads to lower runs. That doesn’t mean that the offense is a trouble spot to start worrying about. Honestly if you watch baseball every year you will see every team go through this yearly. Be happy they are playing .500 ball while not really hitting.
  5. Actually I wouldn’t mind them winning a game or two the next 2 games. Milwaukee is now the bigger threat. Your hatred of the Cardinals really reminds me of the Sox fans who only cared about the Cubs losing. If a Cardinal win helps the Cubs I am all for a Cardinal win. But mainly, I try to just focus on the Cubs.
  6. I want a guy who can pitch at the front of the rotation now. Neither Cabrera nor Meyer fits that roll. While I like a Meyer, possibly for a guy they can have for several years, I don’t think he works here and now.
  7. Fact is, the Cubs ar slumping a bit. It happens. I agree they should still win the next two, but if they end up splitting it is reason to worry. It is a slump. It happens to every team at some point of the year.
  8. Seems like half our country doesn’t care that our president has done far worse to far more people than Chapman ever did. So why should I care about what he did 10 years ago. If he can help the Cubs. I am fine with trading for him. I can’t be the moral police any longer. No one cares about anything anymore. And anyone who is ok with the actions of our leader yet doesn’t want Chapman for his indiscretions is a hypocrite. I don’t condone what he did. But if he hasn’t done something since the Cubs has him last, I need to let his past go. Again, our leader fought to get Rose off the ineligible list for the HOF. And he is a child molester who also gambleed on baseball, so …🤷 I give up.
  9. Exaggerate much? It is easy to criticize the send after the guy is out. But how about if he held and the SS bobbled the ball thrown in or made a wide throw home where Happ would have scored. Then people would have been complaining that he Cubs should have sent him. Suzuki has looked bad against Skenes today. What was the chance he gets a hit? 25%. So if the send results in better than 25% chance of acoring(and I think it did) you have to send him.
  10. Nope. Right call. Pirates made the play. Wet ball hard to make 2 good throws. They did it.
  11. I do wonder what that hit expectancy was. We take it for granted when PCA makes what looks like a routine play. But is it routine for others. I was watching Mets and Natsbyestersay. Taylor made a play in center where he ran a. It great route to a ball and ebeddd up making a diving catch. Announcers were talking about how good a play it was. I think with PCA he would have caught it like he caught the one today.
  12. Cubs have scored 3 runs in 5 innings or less 3 times in Skenes, out of 5 appearances. How about take out his one really good start against the Cubs and now tell me his era. He has had 5 starts and never went past the 6th. 25 total innings.
  13. I agree they need to go bigger on the starter. I would rather one TOR starter and no pen help then a middle/back of the rotation starter and middle relief pitcher, if the cost was the same. I think they have enough decent pen arms. They don’t need another unless that one arm is a solid closer. To me all focus should be on the best starting pitcher they can get. Then, if anything else comes up and they want to tinker, fine. But it isn’t nearly as urgent. But to your point, sure I would rather have Sale in July then Heaney now.
  14. How can anyone vote for anything other than a starting pitcher as the Cubs #1 need?
  15. Cubs can get this one. Skenes has not been dominate against the Cubs. He has one quality start against them in 5 appearances and never worked into the 7th. They can wait him out and let him throw a lot of pitches. If they can get him out early enough they can also get to their pen. We need Cade to throw a good game and show why he was a top 50 prospect. But the Cubs can definitely win this one.
  16. I’m not sure “you want one or two” is totally accurate. I think it is more, it is fine if you have a few free swingers, especially if they can hit a ball out of the zone with authority. But I don’t think you actively look for a guy who swings at everything because you think your team needs one. PCA is one and he is good at it. Don’t try changing him.
  17. Maybe Bill North? He and Monday were on the same team briefly in early 70’s.
  18. This was my thought as well. However, to the question of what has Pressly done to warrant the closer role again, he has done something like 13 appearances without giving up a run. His strike out rate has increased. His FB velocity has gone up over 2mph and he has pitched very well. Even innings where guys have gotten on have been mainly with ground balls that found holes. While I do not think he is now the official closer again, I think Counsel really wanted Palencia for the better part of the line up, I do think he has earned his place in the circle of trust.
  19. I like Horton too, but there is an issue with innings. If you want Horton late in the season they need to limit him a little. And Brown also needs to limit his innings a bit, even if you or I like him.
  20. Do you really want 8 more starts from Brown, Horton or Rea? I mean, no, it isn’t super urgent. But the sooner they get a solid starting pitcher the better. Even with Imanaga back, it would be him, Boyd, Taillon and and whoever they trade for taking 4 of the 5 spots.
  21. Heaney isn’t bad. Wind blowing in. I doubt they pound him but i do expect a win. I think a lot of people expect way more than what is reality. They don’t have to dominate, just won. But Heaney isn’t bad.
  22. I really don’t think Turner’s spot will be taken away. But I agree with everything else. It won’t be the same bench come September, but I think Turner and the back up catcher are safe. As you said, the minor league system and/or a trade later will be who replaces Berti and/or Brujan. It is just not that urgent a need.
