  1. Isn't it the consensus that the BoSox weren't an ideal trading partner anyway? It'll be interesting to see what kind of cascading effect this has on NYY/Toronto. I was hoping Theo could sell Marmol, but now tend to agree w/ those saying it's best to wait on a deadline trade, hoping he can have a solid 1st half, thus raising his perceived value
  2. I think we could get either plus Brignac. If so, that needs to happen. I'm dubious of that being realistic, however.....hope I'm wrong
  3. I'm just kinda confused... Has NKA proffered himself as a Cubs fan in the past (hard to tell from the inconsistency w/ which he talks about the Cards; alternating between "we" & "them"). Not that it matters, just confused; wanna know know so I can get a grip on his bias.
  4. Pretty much. We sold high and got the better end of the deal but it's not exactly something that's going to be a franchise changer or even worth gloating about. I guess we're just not used to selling high on players. Yeah, this move in isolation obviously isn't a "franchise changer" but the philosophy & plan underlying it sure is.
  5. They inked DeJesus & Reed Johnson, what more do you want?
  6. Yep....most definitely this guy is also Hollandsworth's Mug...lmfao...at least try to use different terminology dude Wasn't the over usage of the we stinks phrase a trademark of another poster whose name eludes me that used to constantly post random images and he later turned out to be amother incarnation of CubsGM? I bolded "oval shaped" b/c that's something HM has said over & over & over again like some sort of fixation.
  7. Yep....most definitely this guy is also Hollandsworth's Mug...lmfao...at least try to use different terminology dude
  8. Necessary for what exactly? Taking us from a 68 win team to a 69 win team? I think even that's being optimistic...
  9. Just piling on, but seriously? Flaherty was left unprotected so Reed Johnson could be signed??? Really Theo/Jed???
  10. lifetime 3.38 era at wrigley Not a difficult feat given the Cubs offenses the past 2 seasons
  11. It's possible many here will wind up preferring the stank of Koyie Hill...at least he'd be cheaper, presumably
  12. $60 million for a guy who has played only the equivalent of AA ball? Uh, o.k. But yeah, his workout vid was kinda sick
  13. Not entirely worthless. Given your estimated range and if Levine's number is correct, it would indicate for sure that the Cubs will enter next year with either the same payroll or higher. Yep, that was the take-away for me as well. Ar worst, it would seem to confirm what many have assumed-that the 2012 big league payroll will at worst match 2011's.
  14. I'm ignoring it. I just get tired of hearing pointless arguments between the same people in every thread. *edit* Though I just read it and got a good laugh. The drug ring cowboys were accountable??? Same... Typically peeps posting opinions as unassailable facts. And yeah, the "crack wagon" in Dallas was subject to sooo much accountability.
  15. There's a need at 3b, does Montero make sense there? Like many others I'm not too keen on moving Garza, but getting Montero + from the Yankees would make me pull the trigger, 2012 be damned, & that wouldn't even be a given. Depending upon corresponding moves, the division can still be had. Yeah, I'm one of those who thinks it's possible to re-build AND compete at the big league level at the same time
  16. they did, however, win the world series. honestly, I don't see this all eggs in one year's basket as a bad thing for a team like the Marlins. Then you have a fire sale and stock the farm. I don't think they could replicate that fire sale (assuming that's what they'd want to do, of course). It's a different environment & I have a hard time seeing how they could deal big contracts, especially a reliever like Madson
  17. I find it hard to get excited about a managerial hire, but at least I can't really find anything objectionable about Maddux. His sense of humor could also serve him well in deflecting the media.
  18. It really depends on years and money for me. I'm a bit more bearish in the projections than a lot of people. I think the collapse rate (albeit collapse is a relative term for a guy like him) is definitely not negligible, even in the next few seasons. Yeah, there's obviously a pain point involved here somewhere. Everyone would sign him for 1/$10M. Nobody would sign him for $20/$1,000M. The question is what contract gets it done and is that the right investment for the team. I wouldn't sign him for anything more than 6 years @ $28 million per, meaning he wouldn't get signed based on my constraints, I'm sure someone will offer him 8 years &/or $30+ million
  19. All I get is a blank .pdf file...I'm on a Mac (Lion 10.7.2)
  20. Yeah, screw you Rogers...but w/ that being said, Maddon would be about the only managerial candidate that actually excites me
  21. Same. It was great sport ridiculing Hendry's Hot Stove moves. Makes for less hilarity, but still a comforting feeling there's a sound basis for every move that's made going forward.
  22. I think most of us agree that it makes more sense to keep him than to pay him to pitch somewhere else, but I think Zambrano has finally got on management's last nerve. I'll be interested to see what Theo/Hoyer do with Z. CCP made a good point a while ago that a new GM probably wouldn't put his neck on the line that early with a guy the fans had turned on, but that was before somebody with Theo's stature was a realistic option. Would the fans be more receptive to Theo giving Z another chance? Whatever Theo sayeth, let it be done.
  23. Are you sure that's what he said? Any chance you are exaggerating a bit, because that is idiotic and not something I would assume Gammons would say. I don't doubt it if only because things have been coming apart at the seems for the BoSox. They are revving up their media/PR machine to throw mud all over the place. I agree w/ others: hope Ricketts desire to emulate BoSox ends w/ his hiring of Epstein as it seems they are devoid of class (hell, even sanity) apart from Theo.
