    I've wondered the same. All I've seen are conclusory statements on a couple forums to the effect that KC just isn't as high on Appel as other organizations.

    And we should all hope that is how the thing goes down, if it ever does. The Cubs do not need to be shedding payroll. If they do dump some guys, I'm hoping they go the route of picking up the check in exchange for getting more talent in return. Yeah, had to take a call & inadvertently submitted my post w/out finishing my thought... Agree that it is best if Cubs pick up the tab in a trade scenario like this to maximize the talent return.

    Phils are only a few million $ from the luxury tax, right? Cubs would have to eat pretty much all of Sori/Marmol $, I'd assume (in a vacuum w/ Phils not dealing away anyone else that would reduce their payroll).

    Yeah unless someone allows Thoyer to clean out their farm system, it makes no sense to not re-sign him....assuming the goal is to be good w/in the next couple years

    Damn Shark has been impressive. It will be interesting to see how he holds-up physically over the season. Is there gonna be a cap on innings for him this year?

Maybe another GM would've given the same contract, but maybe not. There were some here wanting to trade high on Marmol a couple years ago. Oh well, payroll has to go to somebody I guess

    I was thinking Jed & Theo asked for two of the three (which is what I would ask for) but all three? Wow. I'd tell Theo to go pound sand too, but also can't blame him for trying. If they can't get a major haul for Garza, might as well just keep him, maybe even extend him.

    More or less my view as well. Either Theo/Jed get a great haul in return & deal Garza, or they don't & keep him (maybe even extend him). Cubs don't HAVE to move Garza
