  1. Nice. The more upside arms we can get in, the better. Can't wait to see how he progresses after rehab. Now get Blackburn (sounds like he's signed, though not confirmed) & Underwood.
  2. Wood has settled in kinda nicely since the first two innings.
  3. That was bad. I regret clicking the link, giving them traffic.
  4. Marlins? Pretty sure they were banking $$ for Loria's personality transplant. Gonna need to save for quite awhile.
  5. Surprised I'm so worked-up about not being able to watch a big league Cubs game, but [expletive] you WCIU.
  6. And thankfully, it's highly likely that said video intern is using equipment at least a step up from a Motorola Razr cell phone.
  7. Yeah, I can't tell the difference between my uncle & my brother.
  8. I get what people like N&G are saying, but like I stated in a game thread the other day, I just figure since we're where we are, a crap team, then I'd prefer to maximize the spending pool for the 2013 draft/IFA (or Intl draft, if that happens). I'm not jumping up & down w/ excitement after every loss, to be clear. It sucks to lose. I just want Hoystein to at least have the option of doing what Houston did in this year's draft. It's not even about grabbing the top uber prospect, necessarily, for me. I just want them to have the flexibility to draft hard signs further down as well. And yes, I understand it's not like the NFL or NBA where drafting one guy can change the franchise. However, I want a higher budget to increase the odds of signing impact guys. And I agree, just b/c the record is bad doesn't necessarily mean the future core are performing horribly. Hell, Sori is RAKING & we still suck d**k. I'd be happy as hell to see him moved & his production being replaced by Rizzo + improved play from Castro. Even if that happens, this team COULD still lose close to 100 games.
  9. Lucky for my gf that she's out of town a couple more days. Thinking of Hoystein pillaging Colletti & the Dodgers gets me tight in the pants.
  10. Maybe I'm remembering wrong, but didn't Heyman say just the other day that Castro was one of the young guys who will be a building block for the future? If so, then he's as much of a dolt as I thought he was. Equivocating is just his thing, I guess.
  11. You think it's silly to wait an additional 10-11 days to get an extra full year of control? If I had any doubts, NOW I know for certain "Theo" isn't the real The Epstein.
  12. God, pitching down on the farm is atrocious, or in the very least, worrisome.
  13. Yeah, I'm getting tired of wanting to see the Brewers win.
  14. https://twitter.com/Kevin_Goldstein/status/212247279522938880 Source told me last night that he didn't think the Cubs had a ''choke point" on Soler, and would one-up any bid until he was theirs.
  15. I hear the ‪#Cubs‬ won out for Jorge Soler. ‪#Yankees‬ tried, but didn't get him.
  16. Yeah, I understand that. All I mean is that if the Cubs are gonna suck, then I hope they can at least get something out of it. As far as next year's draft goes, it's not even the top pick, by itself, that is so important to me. Given the slot budgets for each team, I'd just like to see our F.O. have as much flexibility as possible next year to do what Houston did this year in the draft. I know it's no guarantee that Hoystein could pull it off in the same manner, but I'd like them to have as much $$ as possible available to them. And no, I do not think it was necessary for the big club to suck this year to rebuild. I'm only saying that since we're already here, and are so bad, why not be really bad (record-wise). Winning 75 games instead of 70, for example, isn't gonna make me feel any better, or be any better for the organization.
  17. I just hope another buying GM is convinced that's the case
  18. At least it looks like this year the Cubs will be good at losing. Hate all you want, but I'd rather see them w/ a top 3 pick next year than not, especially after this suck-filled season. I wanna feel like we get something out of it. Hoping we don't end the season on a winning tear to take us out of the top 3 picks.
  19. Maybe Dunston, Jr.?? Any legit chance of Jeimer Candeleiro being there? Guessing some of the most recent draft fodder (sub slot, college guys) will be there for sure.
  20. O.k., who's the comedian making all these joke accounts?
  21. Dan Lozano. Yeah, dude likes to party & pay girls to do stuff.
  22. i'm not talking about rookie (new draftee) scales, i'm talking about salary caps in general. the nfl and nhl have hard salary caps. many teams come very close to their cap limit. they have the exact same incentive to cheat (pay players under the table, etc) that MLB teams have with newly-drafted players. yet these things generally do not happen. there was an aussie rules football team that was found to be committing serious and systematic breaches of the salary cap during the early 2000s. the league took away the #1 and #2 overall picks in one draft, plus their second and third round picks, then their top two picks the next year, and also some picks for an overage draft. and fined that club almost a million dollars. that team ended up being awful for another five years and needed a loan from the league to keep from going under. while it's not MLB, this is the kind of thing that happens to teams that knowingly flaunt a hard and fast rule. Does the Saints bounty program count (as a way of circumventing the salary cap)? :D j/k of course
