  1. That'll show Houston for trying to get 2 picks ahead of the Cubs in '15.
  2. Kyle has some sort of gift... I wish to hire him to berate me as I work. Guaranteed raise & promotion would follow.
  3. Assuming such a deal would involve the M's sending pitching prospects to the Cubs & the Rays getting a "premium" position prospect from the Cubs, I can't wrap my head around how Hoystein would be interested. The whole point has been to stockpile bats, presumably for obtaining established big league players, edit: &/or have a homegrown lineup. Why would the F.O. be interested in doing essentially a position prospect for pitching prospect(s)? And it's not liek the M's have top line pitching prospects w/out significant injury concerns. Olney needs to STFU
  4. In what way? I don't think teams are supposed to be directly negotiating with "advisors." Why should the player suffer because the team ( a perhaps vindictive one at that) attempted improper contact with the adviser. Perhaps that is why Close was unresponsive.
  5. you do understand that they go under-slot at this point so that they can go over-slot later in the draft, right? Yes, I do understand that. And no need to be passive-aggressive. if you want to call me an idiot for not liking this pick, just call me one.
  6. Yay. We get to watch the big club suck balls so we can draft near the top, and then the FO decides to....under-slot. So much for "McLeod LOVES Alex Jackson."
  7. If that's true, I still hope the FO continues to hold-out for Bradley as the return. Yeah, I know D-Backs likely won't do that trade, but I'd rather roll the dice on Shark going forward than lesser prospect arms. JMO
  8. Given the Cubs current winning% and season trajectory, looks like they could have their pick of anyone not named Rondon. Donnie Murphy will keep McThoyer out of the top 3.
  9. https://twitter.com/Dunder_wood3/status/221035698294231040 :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :good: :good: :good:
  10. Same here. There's ways to get around blackouts & watch games.
  11. From MLBTR: •The Nationals have been poking around for a right-handed hitting corner infielder to replace Mark DeRosa, who is hurt and declining. John Lannan has improved his trade stock by pitching better of late in Triple-A. Well. the Nats would be getting a guy who just sucks instead of being hurt/declining. So an upgrade.
  12. .260/.315/.490--hot summer, ball is gonna fly out of Wrigley
  13. Damn, I was bored w/out hearing about Baez doing whatever the [expletive] he wants
  14. I find it easier to believe this is a for-real minor injury than all the fakery some are hoping for. Demp's even made statements about how he's not gonna throw for a few days. is he in on the conspiracy too?
  15. JFC!!! Hoping Hoystein can still work some magic & get us some long-shot/upside prospects in return.
  16. Gotta let Reed bat against the righty Just trying to up his trade value by.....uhhh, yeah, have no idea.
  17. I don't think diluting Dempster's trade value by packaging him w/ Sori is such a good idea.
  18. So bored he's catching the ball behind his back/between his legs? Gotta do something to stay invested.
  19. ^^^Huh, I thought Pierce Johnson & Prieto had signed already
  20. A healthy pipeline of prospects can also buy a team impact major league players when circumstances warrant. It's not always about waiting years on development of players, though some seem to assume the Cubs have somehow turned into the Rays or Royals based on one off-season.
  21. No. 25 on that list is Frank Robinson with 512 hits. Castro currently has 422 and I'd say it's a good bet that, barring injury, he'll get 90 more this year. That's not to say that Castro will be a HOFer or even a very good player, but the odds certainly favor it. Of the players with 3,000 hits, Castro has more hits before his 23rd birthday than all of them except Ty Cobb, Robin Yount, and Al Kaline. And that's with about 100 games to play before turning 23. Heh, and yet some meatballs are clamoring to trade him away for "upside" guys in A ball who have a chance of unknown probability at becoming as good as Starlin.
  22. It needs to be drilled into his head that not all strikes are good pitches to hit and that his odds at getting them are much better a few balls into the count. What I hate most about those comments is that it'll provide even more ammo for the meatballs already making negative comments about Starlin all over the interwebs. Now it's also gonna be "You know, THOSE people are sooo stubborn & unwilling to change. Just look at how long it took Soriano to use a lighter bat!!!" ETA: I have very little doubt he's gonna mature as a person & as a player & become what most people here think he can become as a player. He's 22. I'd like to see him improve WRT plate discipline sooner rather than later. I'm just not all concerned about it at this point.
  23. God who the [expletive] cares this is dumb. now that is one of the better points in the argument. it really doesn't matter how many we lose. it really doesn't matter if we get the #1 pick because unlike football or basketball it's not a quick fix(except rarely) and there isn't even a sure thing that the #1 pick will be better than the #10 pick. My god...is it that hard to work out? It's not necessarily about the talent available w/ a top pick. It's about maximizing the amount of slot $$ under these new accursed draft rules. But yes, the point is well understood that barring a Harper/Strasburg type of guy, the top pick doesn't "guarantee" anything. Some of us would just like to see our FO have the flexibility to move $$ around & sign more talent overall.
