  1. That I cannot disagree with at all... Friedman is actually my first choice. I'm just buying into the argument he is not a viable option, and that things are too far gone WRT Theo. We're gonna end up giving more than many here want, methinks. Until he gives me reason to believe otherwise, I'm going to give Ricketts the benefit of the doubt. I'm expecting good things from his negotiating ability. Oh I believe in Ricketts too. Problem is, it might wind up he's dealing w/ an intransigent trading partner. With the craziness coming out of Bean Town these days, I would hold nothing past them. I trust Ricketts to not allow them to hold Theo for ransom, but even he can't force them to be "reasonable" (however one defines that in terms of proper compensation). Thus my belief if this gets done, it'll be w/ the Cubs giving more than many here feel comfortable with.
  2. Walks, walks, walks, walks, walks!!!

  4. I agree w/ those who opine McNutt isn't what's holding this up. BoSox must be demanding much more. Once I got over my reactionary "don't give those fucks anything", I now agree wholeheartedly that IF McNutt is what the BoSox want, Ricketts can't (& wouldn't) let that be the roadblock.
  5. Been wondering the same thing. Someone citing things like bating avg, RBI, pitcher's wins, "fire & leadership" (or something along those lines) doesn't strike me as someone who really understand what Epstein is about
  6. Ehhh, it's obvious some seem to want Epstein w/out even knowing WHY he's a great GM. All they can articulate is that "he ended the curse in Boston" as the reason for acquiring him.
  7. Jay Jackson or Carpenter are the best pitchers we should be willing to give up. If they want more, Ricketts should send a polaroid of his butthole.
  8. I'd rather a manager be removed from the dugout when his team is at bat; less chance he'd screw up. The thing I care about is knowing how to handle a pitching staff. Beyond that, just be a in a trance for all I care.
  9. As unlikely as it is, I really hope Ricketts is giving Friedman the fullcourt press right now. He's always been my #1 choice anyway.
  10. So much fail in here
  11. Bowden? There's no way they take him over Colletti. Crap, I just threw up in my mouth
  12. Yay, so happy we get to see more Lou Montanez.
  13. Well that didn't go the way I had hoped. And yeah, why extend him before hiring the new GM?
  14. ok, so because a white player has been booed, that means the slurs shouted at black and latino players is the same thing? the booing of a white player is in no way shape or form proof that racism doesn't exist. And the fact that racists shout slurs at black and latino players doesn't mean all people yelling at them are motivated by racial reasons. The main reason anybody yells at an athlete is the irrational fanaticism they have about the team they support, and the responsibility they place on those athletes to deliver results. And racial epithets are ready-made labels conveniently called upon in the heat of the moment. There are no equivalents WRT Caucasians, IMO. This is in no way meant to excuse the use of slurs. And if it matters, I'm not white.
  15. Wasn't Steve Phillips the same? I recall stories that he pissed off a lot of teams by putting in claims for anyone & everyone
  16. I'm SO glad that Mr. Soriano doesn't regret signing a bloated contract that will probably keep the next 3 generations of his family very rich while he gave us 2 good seasons, 2 productive seasons, and 1 bad season plus whatever else is to come. And here I was feeling sorry for him. Why feel sorry for him?
  17. I fully endorse that sentiment
  18. Fleita is part of the middle ages thinking that's permeated this system over the past decade. This I assume is based on walks in the system? I can't really say I agree, particularly when the bat prospects in the system are a strength rather than a weakness. I'd say our scouting and farm system are also the organizations main strength right now. Theres no real need to weaken that. There our "strength" because this organization is weak all-around. Our hitting prospects overall aren't great, they only look like that because our pitching is so bad. Our farm system is middle of the pack, at best, even when factoring in this recent draft (which will never look better than it does right now). Other than maybe Tim Wilken, there's really nothing that needs to be salvaged from the last regime. ^^^ Fleita is not someone "you look to keep." Maybe he's more innocuous than some here feel, but he doesn't seem to be any kind of asset either. Keep Wilken & his chosen scouts; ditch the rest for all I care.
  19. Nah, I still say sign both & have the most expensive platoon ever.
  20. He can't help it, due to his Latin-ness & whatnot
  21. Note to self: tell little sis to cancel her impending trip to Chapel Hill
  22. Surprised as hell to see this news earlier. Happy day!!!
  23. Nope, you're not alone. I'm guessing one Jim Hendry wants Hendry to stay.
  24. Who gives a [expletive] about the Pacers? And if the organization is so worried about public perception, they'd better throw Hendry & Quade out on their asses as well instead of scapegoating a player for a mostly horrible season.
