  1. Starlin w/ hit #3... I think he's leading the league in 3-hit games
  2. Geo-bomb... This is decidedly more fun than 90% of the games I've watched this year
  3. I think Colvin broke that baseball... And Starlin is a hit machine.
  4. I don't get how peeps forget that. It seems to get brought up in every Cubs-specific thread here.
  5. There does seem to be a general feeling that his head must roll or the franchise won't be able to move on. The results speak volumes. To me, it's simple as that. He hasn't gotten it done, for whatever reasons. And he's been given more than enough time to do so. Time to move on.
  6. I just don't want "injuries" become the scapegoat for a horrid season & a fundamentally flawed team.
  7. Cubs might wanna seriously consider just sneaking out of town this afternoon to avoid further embarrassment on national TV. But yeah, if they actually to play, Holliday should get drilled every single PA tonight.
  8. Do most ticket-buying fans even know who Jim Hendry is? Based on my trips to Wrigley, I'm guessing not.
  9. My thought, and my hope, too, assuming he's actually gonna be brought in. The last thing this organization needs is more "old timey" baseball guys.
  10. They probably won't ever contend considering all those monster, bloated, never-ending contracts they have weighing them down. At least the world is ending next December, so we only have 1 more full season to endure. Then Ricketts should have no problem emptying out his bank account by singing Wilson along w/ Pujols AND Fielder. The latter two comprising the most expensive platoon ever. Might as well go out w/ a bang.
  11. I'd rather see what it would take to get Kemp or Ethier from the Dodgers. If we are talking about trading Marshall to fill an OF void. I think Ethier would come a little cheaper. Obviously it would take more than just Marshall to get one of those guys (especially Kemp). Will the Dodgers be able to move any of their higher-profile guys though, given their current financial state? Even if it meant shedding payroll, I'm assuming they can't until the bankruptcy/ownership situation is sorted.
  12. I thought signing Maples was a pipe dream when he was picked. Damn glad to see I may have been way wrong on that one. The farm is gonna be even more fun to track after this year's draft.
  13. The average major league 2B this season has hit .255/.316/.379 Barney is at .300/.328/.369 In other words, because of Barney's lack of plate discipline and power, he's only managed to be an average 2B despite his .300 batting average. So yeah, it's possible to be a productive ML player... but you aren't going to find many stars without real secondary skills. I don't think you will find many people (especially around here) too happy if Vitters winds up being a comp to Darwin Barney so not sure why it is relevant to be using him as an example of how Vitters can be successful without taking walks. Thank you....that's what I was thinking too. Yeah, Darwin Barney production out of a corner position sounds, well, terrible. Especially if it's 1st base (as it seems likely he won't stick at 3rd).
  14. So walks lead to fewer runs being scored??? Ummm....okaaaay
  15. Awful team is awful. Still hoping Hendry does end up dealing more than he's indicated publicly. At least it could prove to be entertaining, unlike the on-the-field product.
  16. Rollercoaster? I consider those examples speed bumps on the way to hell. Yeah.. Those are merely exceptions to the rule of 2011 Cubs suckage
  17. ^^ Yeah, sorry, hate to be "that guy"....but I see Hendry's ultimate top move being "getting himself fired." At least I hope so.
  18. I'm happiest to see JJax putting up a solid effort
  19. I dunno, I get what y'all are saying, but the Cubs have never seemed to be overly shy about aggressive promotions in the past. It's hard for me to buy that being all that relevant. Then again, admittedly, I want Hendry gone so bad I'd be critical of almost any decision he makes these days.
  20. ^^^ Truth. These kinds of discussions are why I love coming here. I don't know enough to engage in many of the conversations, but it's both entertaining & educational in any event.
  21. GO BUCS!!! Agreed. Pirates all the way. Either works for me. Just so long as it's not the Cardinals. +1....Any team in the league not named the Cardinals
  22. Certainly, I don't believe the Cubs will contend next year without a (external) talent infusion. However, if the Cubs were able to sign, say, Prince Fielder and C.J. Wilson, I'd be rather shocked if they did not contend in the NL Central next year. The Cubs have money coming off the books and money to spend. Obviously without mortgaging the future, the Cubs should be targetting contention in 2012. I see no reason not to. ^^This. If Pujols/Fielder are not signed, ARam is kept, a pitcher like Wilson is inked & someone like Pena is re-signed, I still think 2012 contention for the division is possible (not "likely", but possible). Under that scenario, go guns blazing after Kemp for 2013, amongst the various necessary moves, as posters like N&G have advocated. Heck, even if Fielder is signed, still go after Kemp assuming payroll isn't cut.
  23. Same. I've avoided it.
